Manchester United took on Everton at Goodison Park, in a clash both teams were desperate to win. With United grabbing the lead courtesy Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s lobbed goal, fans hoped they would see the game out, but they were also wary of a strong response. In true Jose Mourinho fashion, the United manager threw on a lumbering Marouane Fellaini to add some physicality to United’s midfield and prevent a set-piece goal. However, Fellaini had other plans. Determined to leave his mark on the occasion of his 100th appearance for Manchester United, the Belgian delivered his finest impersonation of a tree - staying immobile his box, fouling Idrissa Gueye in the process and gifting Everton a penalty. Needless to say, some choice words were reserved for Fellaini on Twitter: Ex-England player Gary Lineker called it Fellaini’s “best performance”.
This is one of Fellaini's best performances....for Everton.

Former Everton teammate Leon Osman also commented on Fellaini’s notoriety:
The memes were quick to follow:

United fans were evidently frustrated with the Belgian’s shenanigans and Mourinho’s decision-making:
I tell you who would have done a better job at closing out that game than Fellaini: Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Incriminating statistics wriggled in as well:
Man Utd's Premier League win % since the start of 2015/16:

With Marouane Fellaini = 34.4%
Without Marouane Fellaini = 60.8%

But a Manchester City fan showed the United faithful a silver lining:
United fans complaining about Fellaini making 100 appearances for them... Try having 7 years of Kolarov!

More optimism incoming:
When somebody tells you to give up on your dreams, just remember them that Fellaini has played one hundred matches for Manchester United.
