Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker’s maternal grandmother and maternal uncle passed away in an accident in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri on Sunday. As per the police, Paris Olympics medallist Manu Bhaker’s grandmother and uncle were travelling on a two-wheeler which collided with a car.
“We got the information about the accident about a collision of a car and a scooty. Both the persons on the scooty died,” ASI Suresh Kumar said. “We could not find the driver of the car at the spot.”
Bhaker etched her name in history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming the first Indian post-independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Games.
She opened India’s medal tally with a bronze in the individual 10m air pistol event, making her the first Indian markswoman to achieve this milestone. Later, she teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to secure another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Talking about her return to shooting, Bhaker added, “I have been training for the last two and a half months regularly. Competitions are coming end of this month and next month.”
Besides Bhaker, World Chess Champion Gukesh Dommaraju, Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Para Athlete Praveen Kumar were also awarded the Khel Ratna.
