Loss to Egypt ends India’s dream run at World Team Squash

Second seeds Egypt ended India’s run in the quarterfinals of the WSF Women’s World Team Championship squash with a 3-0 win. World No.2 Raneem El Weleily and eighth-ranked Nour El Sherbini led the Egyptian team’s charge while the 10th-seeded India, surprise quarterfinalists, had little to offer by way of resistance. India’s top brigade had no response to the higher-ranked Egyptians going down in straight games on Thursday. From there on, Raneem stepped up the pace and played some flawless drives ensuring Pallikal was scurrying around the court. In the second singles, Nour El Sherbini too shut the doors on Joshna Chinappa, using her speed and accurate drop to ensure Egypt entered the semis where they take on Australia, who upset fourth-seeded Hong Kong. The other semifinal will be between top seeds England, who put out Ireland 3-0 and third-ranked Malaysia, the 2-0 winners over New Zealand. IANS
