Live Scores: Dhawan ton takes India to easy series win

For the detailed scorecard, CLICK HERE Post-match comments Bravo: Samuels, Powell and Sammy put us in a good position. But we could have put in a better bowling and fielding performance. But playing against India in India is always hard and we have to keep believing. Once you lose wickets at crucial times, we could have capitalised a bit more. Chasing 280 instead of 260 could have been a different ball game. Dhawan (Man-Of-The-Match): It’s been a great year for me. We usually play on these kind of tracks in Delhi and I knew there would not be too much bounce on the wicket and that is why I played my shots. When I am playing well, I look to cash in all the time. Really happy with my form. Kohli (Man-Of-The-Series): Just trying to make the most of the sort of form that I am in. Just trying to do the right things, do the basics right. Most important month – tour to South Africa – is coming up. You have make the most of your good form. Just been hungry for runs but as I said the most important month for this team starts now. Rohit, Shikhar and me have scored 15 hundreds for the team this year but the load has been shared and the lower order has contributed as well. South Africa is a challenge and we will be presented with one in South Africa. I think… no.. I know… we will do a good job there too. Dhoni: Today was fanstastic. It was important to restrict the opponent. I think the spinners brought us back and we finished well too. It wasn’t a normal Kanpur wicket – much better to bat on usual. 260 seemed like just below par score. Yuvraj speaks Yuvraj: It was a little two-paced to begin with but it got better as the match went on. It’s about spending time in the middle. The likes of Virat and Rohit are batting outstandingly. Dhawan has been super too. Mahi has been consistent as always.

42.5 overs India 266-5 India win by 5 wickets. India have won the three-match ODI series 2-1. Dhoni as usual hits the winning runs. Dhoni ended up with 23 but it was Dhawan’s 119 that made the difference. 42.5 overs India 255-5 Raina edges one to the keeper. Easy as that. Outside the off-stump, Raina plays the lazy waft and gets caught out. SA will be tough on him. SK Raina c Charles b DJ Bravo 34 (43b, 3x4) 40 overs India 235-4 India need 29 to win in 60 balls. Raina is on 21 and Dhoni on 7. This is much too easy. 37.2 overs India 218-4 Barvo’s slower ball does the trick and the WI captain takes an easy caught and bowled chance. Dhoni comes in next. Perfect for the crowd, he will finish things off with big shots. S Dhawan c & b D Bravo 119 (95b, 20x4)

36 overs India 215-3 India don’t need to take any risk here. Slow and easy, keep the singles coming and cruise to victory. India require another 49 runs with 7 wickets and 14 overs left. Walk in the ‘green’ park. 32 overs India 194-3 Dhawan 106, Raina 3 Suresh Raina’s 28th birthday today – when did he get there? India, though, have it easy now. India require another 70 runs with 7 wickets and 18 overs left. 30.1 overs India 190-3 Dhawan 105 WICKET! Yuvraj just was unable to read Narine to the end. He was playing inside the line as a result and got an edge to first slip. This is Narine’s last over, if Yuvi had survived this, he would have been in the clear. Yuvraj Singh c D Bravo b Narine 55 (74b, 7x4)

29 overs India 181-2 Dhawan 101, Yuvraj 50 Yuvraj Singh brings up his 51st ODI fifty off 68 balls, 5th ODI fifty against the West Indies and then Dhawan gets his ton off just 73 balls (with 18 fours). It has been a stunning knock and he already has five tons in just 28 ODIs.

28 overs India 173-2 This is just too easy. Dew held India back in the second ODI but otherwise there is a huge difference in class between the two sides and that is becoming even more evident here. 26 overs India 162-2 Ravi Rampaul has been brought into the attack again but even he can’t stop the flow of runs. This is just too easy at the moment. With the exception of Narine and Rampaul all the other West Indies bowlers have gone for over seven runs an over. Dhawan has 92 off 67 balls and Yuvraj Singh has 44 off 57 balls.19 overs India 112-2 Sammy should just not bowl the short ball. He doesn’t have the pace and Yuvraj picked him off for two boundaries in the last over. 18 overs India 101-2 First fifty of the innings came off 47 balls, the second a little slower in 59 balls. Dhawan 56, Yuvraj 16. 17 overs India 95-2 And Dhawan has his 6th ODI fifty off just 43 balls. He looks like he is batting on a different pitch and it is important for India that he carries on today. Yuvraj still looking uncomfortable in the middle and Raina hasn’t had a great time in this series either. 16 overs India 90-2 India haven’t lost any wickets in the last 8 overs and that is the important bit. Dhawan has moved on to 47 and Yuvraj Singh is on 14. The target isn’t huge and keeping wickets in hand is crucial. 8.4 overs India 61-2 And now Kohli falls. Rampaul strikes again, the right-hander was trying to leave the ball but took his bat up too late and the edge carried to the keeper. Test for Yuvraj coming up. The chase might not be as easy as imagined. V Kohli c Charles b Rampaul 19 (18b, 3x4) 7 overs India 43-1 Dhawan hasn’t had much strike but Kohli has kept the scorecard ticking over. 4.2 overs India 29-1 Rohit hangs his bat outside the off-stump, gets the edge and is caught in the slips. Nice bowling by Ravi Rampaul but Rohit was a bit too loose. South Africa will be fun. R Sharma c DJ Bravo b Rampaul 4 (14b) 4 overs India 29-0 A very strong field on the off-side for Rohit – probably trying to test his patience. But Holder is bowling on both sides of the wicket (two boundaries on the on side and three of the off). Rohit got a single and then Dhawan crashed two through the off-side for four. Dhawan already has 24 (12). 2 overs India 15-0 13 runs in the last over – 12 off them in fours. Two of the balls were on the legs and Dhawan took full advantage of them. Then, Holder went wide off the off-stump and Dhawan gave that the treatment too. 1 over India 2-0 2 runs off the first over. No alarms either. Holder takes over from the other end. Lunch time over Ravi Rampaul has the ball. India’s openers taking guard. And we are a go. 50 overs WI 263-5 46th over - 9 47th over - 6 48th over - 14 49th over - 17 50th over - 10 The fifth fifty of the WI innings came in just 28 balls. The last five overs (56 runs) saw the West Indies take full toll. If they could have started going for their shots a little earlier, they would have really been able to challenge India. But for the moment, this will have to do. The Bravo (51 off 53) - Sammy (37 off 29) partnership added 67 in 40 balls. 45 overs WI 207-5 Still not making the slog overs count. West Indies need to make the last overs count or India will have an easy chase. Average total batting first in Kanpur in 233 but WI had a chance to get so much more.41.5 overs WI 196-5 God! What a bad shot by Dwayne Bravo. He seems to bat pretty well for CSK but can’t seem to keep it together while batting for the West Indies. It was wide and Bravo hit it – without absolutely no direction in mind to Ashwin at extra cover. D Bravo c Ashwin b Mohammed Shami 4 (11b) 41 overs WI 194-4 Serious loss of momentum here. The last two overs have yielded just 7 runs. The Bravo bothers are getting set and one of them needs to start playing his shots. 39 overs WI 187-4 Simmons looked for the square cut, got an edge and Dhoni took the catch well. It was too close to cut and Simmons, who played a good hand in the second ODI, is now walking back. L Simmons c †Dhoni b Jadeja 13 (14b 2x4) 35.2 overs WI 168-3 Normal delivery, Samuels just fell asleep. It turned and clipped the bails. He was just so slow on the shot. Samuels gone for 71 – he was put down earlier by Virat Kohli at first slip. This is the first over of the power play. These wickets will not help the Windies. Simmons is in next. M Samuels b Ashwin 71 (93b, 7x4, 1x6) 35 overs WI 164-2 Drinks. Just three off the last over. WI have a superb platform, now can they make the slog overs count? The pitch is really good for batting and they will need at least 300 to challenge the strong Indian batting line-up. 34 overs WI 161-2 The West Indies and Bravo have flipped a switch. Samuels was dropped by Virat Kohli in the slips, Bravo has come out and hit a few big shots too. It’s hard to imagine that this is the same Bravo would just couldn’t play shots in the Test series.29.2 overs WI 137-2 Slow and steady. India’s bowlers just waiting for a collapse. This is why the series needed Chris Gayle. And as if on cue, Powell hit the ball straight to short fine leg. He stayed on his knees after he played the shot. Crazy. K Powell c Dhawan b Ashwin 70 (81b, 9x4)

27 overs WI 119-1 The partnership is up to 99 as Raina and Ashwin continue to bowl. Powell gets his fifty and Samuels continues to bat with a fair degree of comfort. These are the times when Dhoni seems to just let the game drift.

23 overs WI 103-1 Powell (46) and Samuels (44) are both in their forties now and looking very solid. The spinners have brought down the scoring rate a little but still nothing much happening. At the current rate, they will get to 224. At 6 an over, they will get to 265 and 8 an over would be 319. 20 overs WI 97-1 A six in the last over from Ashwin and a four in Raina’s over – West Indies are now in a dangerous position – they have a platform. It’s been slow going but it’s getting better with every over. The RR is almost up to 5. Still nothing that will trouble Dhoni greatly though.18 overs WI 80-1 Kind of boring. West Indies batting pretty well but there is absolutely no excitement here. The Ashes in comparison was so much better. The angles, the camerawork, the commentary. Ashwin into the attack now, replacing Shami. 16 overs WI 72-1 Time for drinks and West Indies will be pretty happy with their start. 15 overs WI 71-1 The early morning help seems to have vanished and the pitch seems pretty good for batting now. The first partnership for the second wicket came off just 56 balls with a superb straight drive from Powell. 13 overs WI 57-1 Five overthrows off the last ball. There was a chance for a chance for a run out by Bhuvi, on his follow through, got his throw horribly wrong. 12 overs WI 51-1 The ball isn’t doing that much now. The sun is out and the smog seems to have lifted now. West Indies are settling into a rhythm. Dhoni will be thinking about a few changes in the bowling now. A spinner perhaps… just to see how that goes.

11 overs WI 45-1 Powell (24 off 27 balls) has looked solid. Samuels has just tried to stay in the middle and been very judicious with his strokeplay. But this is good batting by the West Indies. 10 overs WI 39-1 Good over by Shami. Nothing loose for the batsmen to take advantage of. He is bowling quickly but his length has been good too.9 overs WI 37-1 Last ball of the over, another big shot and once again it almost went to a fielder (Rohit Sharma) at midwicket. It seems to be the norm for West Indies – keep blocking and then go for the big shot. Samuels and Powell trying to see West Indies through this tough period. 8 overs WI 32-1 Shami into the attack now. Mohit Sharma gets a rest. Bhuvi has been impressive at the other end and Shami can also swing the new ball. The singles have almost dried up for the West Indies – they are scoring in boundaries and not hitting enough of them. 7 overs WI 28-1 Three slips but not a lot of bounce. Two edges have dropped short of the slips and they have now moved up a little. 4.5 overs WI 20-1 WICKET! Outswinger, wider and wider, giving the batsmen room and then an inswinger. Bhvneshwar completely fooled Johnson there. Superb inswinger knocked back the batsman’s middle stump. It was only the second inswinger bowled by Bhuvi this morning – so he really set up the batsman well. J Charles b Bhuvneshwar Kumar 11 4 overs WI 16-0 The ball is doing a bit, just enough to keep the batsmen in check but India need a wicket early. Johnson likes to hit through the line and Powell has been in good form too. The opening partnership will, in the words of Ravi Shastri, be vital. There is still a lot of haze around the ground. 2 overs WI 8-0 The first two hours or so will be crucial. It is the start of winter in India and that should help the pacemen for a while. India will need to make it count. 1 over WI 4-0 Johnson Charles played and missed the first few ball but then he got it right. The WI opener is batting way out of his crease to negate the swing and he then managed to crash one through the off-side. TOSS India win the toss and elect to bowl first. India and West Indies have fielded unchanged squads. WI XI: K Powell, J Charles, M Samuels, DM Bravo, L Simmons, DJ Bravo, D Sammy, J Holder, S Narine, V Permaul, R Rampaul IND XI: RG Sharma, S Dhawan, V Kohli, Y Singh, S Raina, MS Dhoni, R Jadeja, R Ashwin, B Kumar, M Shami, M Sharma 0820 IST It’s an early morning start at Kanpur. It’s cold too and the team that wins the toss will want to take advantage of the conditions and bowl first. The toss is going to be key today. Preview Unfavourable bowling conditions had pegged them back in the last match but India will look to assert their supremacy and clinch the series against the West Indies when the two teams clash in the decisive third One-day International, in Kanpur. [caption id=“attachment_1252369” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Dhoni will want to end the series on a high. BCCI Dhoni will want to end the series on a high. BCCI[/caption] India have been a dominant force in this contest since West Indies’ arrival to the country but the hosts suffered a surprise two-wicket defeat in Visakhapatnam, failing to defend a competitive total under difficult conditions. That victory must have boosted confidence of the West Indies who would now aim to leave the country by pocketing at least the ODI series, following their debacle in the Tests. They, for the first time on this tour, will approach a match with self belief and confidence. For India, it is last international match at home before they embark on a challenging tour against South Africa and they would like to finish this series on a high. Full preview here
