Highlights IPL 2017, GL vs KXIP, cricket scores and updates: Punjab beat Lions by 26 runs
  • 19:52 (IST)

That brings us to the end of our live coverage of Match 26 of Indian Premier League 2017. A good win for KXIP. Gujarat's bowling, the weaker side of their squad, did their job in this match, but their powerful batting line-up found themselves choked. Punjab finally got a win after a string of poor results. GL were, on the other hand, back to ending up on the wrong end of the result, after a fine away win at Kolkata in their previous match. Do join us for all live scores and updates from the second match of the Sunday double header -- a huge match at the Eden Gardens between KKR and RCB.

  • 19:46 (IST)

Hashim Amla adjudged the Man of the Match for his aggressive innings. He is also the holder of the Orange Cap now.

  • 19:34 (IST)

Solid win for Kings XI, albeit against poor opposition. The key was always going to be early wickets and they were able to curb the influence of McCullum, Finch and Raina. The spinners bowled well and controlled the middle overs to effectively seal the game and the seamers showed some improvement at the death, although the pressure was off. Maxwell will be pleased with the clinical nature of the victory but there is still plenty of room for improvement for Kings XI. For now they'll just be pleased to break their losing streak and claim victory on the road.

  • 19:33 (IST)

This is the second consecutive defeat for Gujarat Lions while chasing at Rajkot in IPL.

  • 19:32 (IST)

    After 20 overs,Gujarat Lions 162/7 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 58 , Basil Thampi 11)

Sandeep with the last over. The first delivery goes to the fence as Thampi squeezes an yorker length delivery to the fence. But that is not enough for GL. The GL batsmen try a few heaves, but can't get the ball away too far. Sandeep ends with a yorker as Punjab win comfortably.

Final result: KXIP beat Gujarat Lions by 26 runs.

Punjab got their campaign back on track with this win after suffering four losses on the trot and they have moved to the fourth spot on the table. But Hashim Amla has some fitness issues, which would keep KXIP worried.

  • 19:26 (IST)

    After 19 overs,Gujarat Lions 153/7 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 57 , Basil Thampi 3)

Mohit to bowl the penultimate over. Starts with the wide. Fine changes of pace. The GL batsmen swings and misses. Changes of pace has been Mohit's forte in this tournament this season. The last ball has Kathik going for a cut. But that ball was too close for the cut. GL need a six off every ball of the last over to win.

  • 19:22 (IST)

    After 18 overs,Gujarat Lions 149/7 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 54 , Basil Thampi 3)

Natarajan to bowl the 18th over. A couple of wides in that over, but otherwise a very tidy over, one that could be the turning point in the match. Just six runs from that over. That's very good from the younf Punjab bowler. Good changes of pace and length there. 41 needed off 12 balls now. An uphill task for GL.

  • 19:20 (IST)

    After 17 overs,Gujarat Lions 142/7 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 52 , Basil Thampi 1)

Sandeep to bowl the next over. The first ball is on the pads of Karthik and is turned round the corner for a boundary. The third ball goes the journey too. Tye tries to pull, but gets an outside edge that goes to the fence behind the keeper. Bit fortuitous that. Sandeep comes back to get Tye's wicket with a yorker off the fourth ball. That brings Thampi to the crease. The last ball fetches a boundary too as Karthik reverse sweeps. That's fifty for the GL keeper-batsman too. GL need 47 off 18 balls.

  • 19:12 (IST)

OUT! Sandeep Sharma gets rid of Tye. A yorker right on target and it goes under Tye's bat. The batsman misses and the bowler hits. That shows the importance of atacking the stumps at the 'death'. GL 137/7

Andrew Tye b Sandeep Sharma 22(12)

  • 19:09 (IST)

Good work by the spinners through the middle has really turned this game in Kings XI's favour. Cariappa in particular seems to have read the conditions well and mixed up his pace and extracted enough turn to cause problems for the Gujarat bowlers. Axar also bowled well and looked good when he slowed it down. Surely it's Kings XI's game now.

  • 19:07 (IST)

King XI are on for a win here, and the Lions are now in serious danger of their season being over. Dwayne Bravo isn’t coming back, Jason Roy has said he won’t return after the ODIs for England. They could well go from table toppers to rock bottom inside a season. They may not even be back for 2018 season. They burned bright and have faded fast.

  • 19:06 (IST)

    After 16 overs,Gujarat Lions 128/6 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 43 , Andrew Tye 18)

Mohit Sharma back into the attack. Raps Tye on the pads as the batsman shuffles outside off. There is an appeal, but the impact is outside the lione of off stump though. Leg byes given as the batsmen cross over for a single. Good change of pace in that over. Only seven runs from that over. The GL batsmen are just not being able to get the bowlers away. GL need 61 off 24 balls. Strategic timeout taken at the end of that over. Lots to talk about for either team.

  • 19:02 (IST)

    After 15 overs,Gujarat Lions 121/6 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 40 , Andrew Tye 15)

Axar continues. Andrew Tye gets stuck into him and gets a six over cow corner. Much needed that for GL. Gets a boundary off the last ball sending the ball past short fine leg. GL need 68 off 30 balls.

  • 19:00 (IST)

    After 14 overs,Gujarat Lions 106/6 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 38 , Andrew Tye 2)

Cariappa to bowl the 14th over. Traps Akshdeep Nath straight in front of the stumps on the first ball of the over. That's out. He had got a wicket off the last ball of his previous over too. Andrew Tye walks out to face the hat-trick ball. A play and a miss. Some excitement among the fielding team, but there was no bat touch. Good decision from the umpire. Four runs and a wicket fromn the over. GL need 80 off 36 balls.

  • 18:56 (IST)

OUT! Akshdeep Nath is caught in front of the stumps by Cariappa. GL 102/6

Akshdeep Nath lbw b Cariappa 0(1)

  • 18:53 (IST)

OUT! Dwayne Smith holes out in the deep. GL 102/5

    Dwayne Smith c Stoinis b Axar 4(4)

  • 18:52 (IST)

    After 13 overs,Gujarat Lions 102/5 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 36, DR Smith 4)

Dwayne Smith gets a boundary off the fourth ball with half-sweep. Seven runs from that over.

    After 12 overs,Gujarat Lions 95/4 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 33 , )

Cariappa to bowl the 12th over. Starts with a full toss, but not a lot of damage done. Runs are being dried up now and what's worse the GL batsmen had run a run short in that over. Good work at short fine leg to save a run, but then Punjab concede an overthrow. On the last ball of the over, Gujarat suffer another blow as Jadeja departs, hitting one straight to the bowler. That ball straightened from middle and leg and Jadeja closed the bat too early. Dwayne Smith is the new batsman.

  • 18:51 (IST)

Axar has looked a lot more dangerous when he has slowed the pace and tossed the ball up. There is some grip and turn on offer for the spinners and this pitch is on the slower side. As soon as he fires it through he drags it short and becomes easy pickings.

  • 18:51 (IST)

This is not the start that Lions would have hoped for chasing a reasonably challenging total. Suresh Raina made a match winning score against KKR and it will be him that the Lions would have been relying on him after McCullum and Finch had gone. With Raina gone as well KXIP will feel they have a real chance of a win.

Dwayne Smith has struggled in the middle order, he will need to do well if the Lions are to win this one.

  • 18:48 (IST)

OUT! Jadeja caught and bowled. GL 95/4

    Jadeja c and b Cariappa 9(7)

  • 18:45 (IST)

Youngest to take 50 wickets in IPL:
    22y 140d - Piyush Chawla
    22y 361d - Sandeep Sharma
    23y 93d - AXAR PATEL*
    23y 229d - Pragyan Ojha
    24y 127d - RP Singh
Axar Patel becomes the third player to take 50 wickets for KXIP in IPL after Piyush Chawla and Sandeep Sharma.

  • 18:44 (IST)

    After 11 overs,Gujarat Lions 90/3 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 31 , Ravindra Jadeja 6)

Axar Patel bowls the 11th over. The fifth delivery is a bit short and is hammered by Jadeja for four through cover. GL need 99 runs off 54 balls.

  • 18:43 (IST)

    After 10 overs,Gujarat Lions 82/3 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 29 , Ravindra Jadeja 1)

Stoinis into the attack. A couple of twos in the first two ball. The fifth ball of the over is a slower one , but dragged way short. Karthik has enough time to hammer it to the backward square leg fence. A good over for GL. 12 runs from that over. At the halway stage, GL need 107 runs.

  • 18:39 (IST)

    After 9 overs,Gujarat Lions 70/3 ( Dinesh Karthik (W) 19 , )

Axar to bowl the ninth over. The first ball is way short and is despatched to the boundary by Karthik. The last ball of that over from Axar is very short again and Raina punishes it. But Maxwell takes a brilliant catch right on the boundary at deep mid wicket. Punjab didn't deserve a wicket with that delivery, but that they got one is all that matters. A huge wicket for Punjab. Gujarat is in some trouble now. Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in.

  • 18:37 (IST)

Just as Raina and Karthik were looking dangerous the partnership is broken. Great catch by Maxwell and not a great delivery by Axar but they'll take it. On a good batting surface regular wickets will be the key and they'll want to put pressure on the likes of Jadeja and Dwayne Smith. Smith in particular is used to opening so taking the pace off could stifle his usual fluency.

  • 18:35 (IST)

OUT! Brilliant catch by Maxwell at the deep sees the back of Raina. GL 70/3

    Raina c Maxwell b Axar 32(24)

  • 18:31 (IST)

    After 8 overs,Gujarat Lions 63/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 31 , Dinesh Karthik (W) 13)

Natarajan with the next over. Some change of pace. Keeps the batsmen honest. Only five runs from that over. Strategic timeout taken at the end of that over.

  • 18:29 (IST)

    After 7 overs,Gujarat Lions 58/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 29 , Dinesh Karthik (W) 10)

Cariappa bowls the seventh over. Karthik gets a four off the fifth deliver. Rocks back and punches it in front of square on the off side. Eight runs from the over.

  • 18:27 (IST)

Aaron Finch has only scored 114 runs from six innings in this season for Gujarat Lions at an average of 22.80. He may find exclusion in the next game or play in the middle-order.

  • 18:27 (IST)

    After 6 overs,Gujarat Lions 50/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 27 , Dinesh Karthik (W) 4)

Mohit back into the attack. The first ball is full and affords bit of room to Raina, who guides it square on the off side for a single. Finch takes a couple of runs on the third ball. Mohit, though, has Finch caught by Stoinis at extra   cover. A lot of doubts over whether Stoinis took that clearly. Finch is very sure that the ball had touched the ground. He walks up to Raina and gives his captain a fist bump and even goes to the crease to take guard, even as the soft signal is out. The third umpire looks at numerous replays and finally rules that Finch is out. Another huge blow for GL. Karthik is the new man in and hits a four to get of fthe mark. GL going steady after the first six overs.

  • 18:23 (IST)

Great powerplay for Kings XI, while Gujarat have scored at a similar rate to what the Kings did in their powerplay the important thing is both McCullum and Finch are out. Kings XI have struggled to defend scores and their bowlers have gone the journey at the back end of the innings so they will not be wanting this game to go deep. Need to collect wickets regularly and put the pressure back on the Lions.

  • 18:23 (IST)

    After 6 overs,Gujarat Lions 50/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 27 , Dinesh Karthik (W) 4)

Mohit back into the attack. The first ball is full and affords bit of room to Raina, who guides it square on the off side for a single. Finch takes a couple of runs on the third ball. Mohit, though, has Finch caught by Stoinis at extra   cover. A lot of doubts over whether Stoinis took that clearly.

  • 18:20 (IST)

OUT! Finch is caught by Stoinis. GL lose their second wicket. GL 46/2

    Finch c Stoinis b Mohit Sharma 13(12)

  • 18:13 (IST)

    After 5 overs,Gujarat Lions 43/1 ( Aaron Finch 11 , Suresh Raina (C) 26)

Cariappa comes into the attack with his right arm off-break. Raina gets a boundary off the first ball. Beats the fielders at mid on and deep mid wicket. Fine placement. Cariappa comes back and beats Finch with a carrom ball.

  • 18:10 (IST)

    After 4 overs,Gujarat Lions 36/1 ( Aaron Finch 11 , Suresh Raina (C) 19)

Natarajan comes into the attack. Raina cuts the fourth ball towards the backward point boundary. Timed very runs. The fielder , however, gets across and saves a couple of runs. Bit of a fumble at short third man, allows Raina a single. Finch goes over long off for a six.

  • 18:05 (IST)

    After 3 overs,Gujarat Lions 25/1 ( Aaron Finch 4 , Suresh Raina (C) 15)

Sandeep continues and Raina absolutely smashes the first ball through midwicket for a four. A chance for Punjab to get Raina run out off the third ball. Stoinis makes a fine stop, but it needed a direct hit. The fifth ball of the over goes the journey. A low full toss in and around off stump and Raina guides it between the fielders at backward point and short third man to get a boundary. The last ball of the over is driven straight by Raina, though he did not time it perfectly. A good stop from Maxwell saves a few runs.

  • 18:00 (IST)

    After 2 overs,Gujarat Lions 14/1 ( Aaron Finch 3 , Suresh Raina (C) 5)

It's Sharma and Sharma for Punjab early on. Mohit Sharma comes into the attack. Raina the new man for GL. A short of a length delivery to Finch. Finch mistimes it, but the ball is just a whisker out of the reach of Marsh at mid off. Finch departing after McCullum would have made a massive dent to GL. Hut Finch survives to fight another day. Raina gets a four past the fielder at 45. Eight runs from that over.

  • 17:57 (IST)

    After 1 over,Gujarat Lions 6/1 ( Aaron Finch 0 , )

McCullum and Finch starting for Gujarat. What a power-paced opening pair. And Baz McCullum gets the chase up and running straight away with a boundary. A back of a length delivery from Sandeep. Baz opens the face of the bat and squeezes it past backward point. A boundary off the first ball. The next ball is sent away in the same direction, but the fielder gets across and saves the boundary. Sandeep comes back with a wicket off the last ball. But more a lapse on part of the batsman than a great delivery to get that wicket. But what matters is that Punjab have a wicket in the first over and it is McCullum. A straight full toss and Baz misses it completely. Not much to think for the umpire there. That was plumb.

  • 17:54 (IST)

OUT! McCullum rapped on the pads off a full toss. Out given. McCullum departs for 6. GL 6/1

Brendon McCullum lbw b Sandeep Sharma 6(6)

  • 17:49 (IST)

Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch are out in the middle to get the GL chase underway. Sandeep Sharma has the new ball for KXIP.

  • 17:38 (IST)

  • 17:35 (IST)

Some good late hitting by Axar gets Kings XI to a good score but it could have been so much more if Marsh and Maxwell were able to build on their promising starts. Still 188 is a good score but their will be plenty of nerves amongst an inexperienced and under pressure bowling attack on a flat wicket. Gujarat will be buoyed by their successful chase in the last game. Key wickets are obviously going to be McCullum, Finch and Raina.

  • 17:35 (IST)

That is a decent total for Kings XI and they have done well to keep going after there were wickets on a very regular basis throughout. The Lions have looked better with the ball today and will feel that their powerful top order can get this total on a good batting surface. For Kings XI they will be hoping that Mohit Sharma can chip away with some early wickets to put pressure on the Lions middle order.

  • 17:33 (IST)

    After 20 overs,Kings XI Punjab 188/7 ( Mohit Sharma 4 , )

Thampi bowls the last over. The first ball has Saha backing away and hits a full one long off. Not a bad last over. Six runs off the first four balls, but then Thampi spoils it all with a full toss and Saha takes full toll with a six over cow corner. Thampi gets the yorker right with the last ball of the innings. Saha plays it straight back to the bowler. The Punjab batsmen had already committed for a run. An easy run out effected by Thampi. Punjab end up with a creditable 188. Gujarat have an immensely strong batting line-up, but we have a match on our hands.

  • 17:31 (IST)

OUT! Saha run out off the last ball of the innings. KXIP 188/7

Saha run out (Basil Thampi) 10(5)

  • 17:30 (IST)

  • 17:25 (IST)

Stoinis struggled to get going today and hasn't contributed much with the bat this IPL. He's been okay with the ball without being damaging. Kings XI really would have been hoping for more from the big Aussie all-rounder.

  • 17:25 (IST)

    After 19 overs,Kings XI Punjab 176/6 ( Wriddhiman Saha (W) 1 , Mohit Sharma 1)

Dwayne Smith bowls the penultimate over. Introduced for the first time in this innings and is welcomed to the crease with a six, four and six off the first three balls. A wrong decision to bring someone who bowls gentle medium pace in the crucial 19th over, that too for the first time in the innings? A short delivery from Smith next and Axar pulls it, but does not get the distance. Finch takes a great running catch at the long on fence. That ball got a big big on the batsman who did not time it perfectly. Mohit Sharma walks in at the fall of Axar.

  • 17:23 (IST)

OUT! Axar Patel caught beautifully by Finch in the deep. KXIP 174/6

    Axar c Finch b Dwayne Smith 34(17)

  • 17:20 (IST)

    After 18 overs,Kings XI Punjab 158/5 ( Axar Patel 18 , Wriddhiman Saha (W) 0)

Tye bowls the 18th over. Stoinis drives straight and Finch does well at the fence to save a couple of runs for his side. Tye gets the better of Stoinis with a fine change of pace. Has his Australian teammate miscuing one straight down the throat of Brendon McCullum at long off. Wriddhiman Saha is the new man in. The GL bowlers have kept chipping away at the wickets, but still 180 looks good for KXIP.

Preview: Motivated by the morale-boosting four-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Gujarat Lions will be aiming to keep the momentum going when they face Kings XI Punjab at home on Sunday.

The Lions rode on skipper Suresh Raina's brilliant 46-ball-84 at the Eden Gardens on Friday to their second victory of the season while Kings XI will be eager to end their four-match losing streak at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium here.

On paper, there is not much to choose between the two teams even though Punjab, despite being on a losing streak, are placed fifth with four points while Gujarat are seventh with the same number of points.

For Gujarat, former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum with 258 runs and Raina with 243 runs, are among the top five run-getters in the tournament so far.

Punjab will take solace from the fact that they scored a near 200 total (198) against the Mumbai Indians with South African Hashim Amla scoring a terrific hundred and skipper Glenn Maxwell also hitting some lusty blows.

However, the problem area for both the teams has been bowling which has let them down on most occasions.

Both the teams are heavily dependent on the Indian bowlers, who have failed to rise to the occasion when their teams needed them the most.

Punjab's opening bowlers -- Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma -- have all been smacked all around the park by the batsmen, specially in the last match against Mumbai Indians.

Mohit and Sandeep have been preferred by Maxwell in all the six matches and their economy rates have been a dismal 9.39 and 9.18 respectively.

Only left-arm spinner Axar Patel has somewhat redeemed himself with an economy rate of 7.31.

Gujarat, on the other hand, will be banking on their Australian pacer Andrew Tye, who has taken seven wickets in three games including a hat-trick at a decent economy rate of 7.08. Kerala youngster Basil Thampi's ability to ball yorkers at will, has been an advantage for the Gujarat side.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is yet to fire, having taken only one wicket in the four matches so far, while veteran Praveen Kumar's lack of pace and swing has meant he has been hit at an economy rate of 10.32 over five games.

Gujarat Lions: Suresh Raina (Captain), Akshadeep Nath, Shubham Agarwal, Basil Thampi, Dwayne Bravo, Chirag Suri, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Manpreet Gony, Ishan Kishan, Ravindra jadeja, Dhaval Kulkarni, Shivil Kaushik, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Praveen Kumar, Brandon McCullum, Munaf Patel, Pratham Singh, Jason Roy, Shadab Jakati, Pradeep Sangwan, Shelly Shaurya, Nathusingh, Dwayne Smith, Tejas Baroka, Andrew Tye.

Kings XI Punjab: Glenn Maxwell (Captain), Darren Sammy, Hashim Amla, Shaun Marsh, Eoin Morgan, Martin Guptil, Ishant Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Anureet Singh, Manan Vohra, Varun Aron, David Miller, Mohit Sharma, Gurkeerat singh, Sandeep Sharma, Axar Patel, Marcus Stoinis, Matt Henry, Nikhil Nayke, Rahul Tewatia, T Natrajan, Swapnil Singh, KC Cariappa, Pradeep Sahu, Rinku Singh, Arman Jaffer.
