Lakers star becomes wiser, names himself Military Industrial Complex
The player, whose current name is Metta World Peace, credits this change to him becoming wiser and older.
LA Lakers forward Metta World Peace has filed paperwork today to change his name to Military Industrial Complex, saying that he now has a "new, more realistic outlook on the world".
The player, whose real name was Ron Artest also credits this change to him becoming wiser and older.
“I no longer have that naive, idealistic viewpoint of the world. True world peace is not realistic. That sounds cold, but it’s the truth. All we can do is look out for ourselves. For our own safety and wealth. That’s all that matters.”
He also admitted that he felt foolish to have named himself World Peace.
His Lakers teammates say they like the new name, with Kobe Bryant saying: "Hey, we’d all love world peace, but we’ve got the playoffs coming up. I’d much rather go to battle with Military Industrial Complex than Metta World Peace."
The name-changing bug seems to have caught on with fellow center Andrew Bynum, who also announced that he is considering changing his name to Ennui.
