KKR's Avengers up for IPL-battle: Captain Gautam to lead against 'HYDRA'-bad

Following the conclusion of the first qualifier of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pulling off a sensational chase against Gujarat Lions, the tournament prepares itself for the eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Ahead of a high-octane clash such as this, teams often prepare themselves physically as well as mentally. However, KKR may have gone a step further in sending out a warning message to their opposition by portraying members of their team as Marvel superheroes.

From painting skipper Gautam Gambhir as 'Captain Gautam' (Captain America), Manish Pandey as 'Wolverine', Suryakumar Yadav as 'Hawk-eye', as well as Yusuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa as 'Iron Pathan' and 'Iron Robin' (based on Iron Man and Iron Patriot), KKR plan to unleash their 'Avengers' on the opposition, whom they have dubbed as HYDRA-bad (based on the Marvel-based fictional terrorist organisation Hydra).

KKR's latest move might be viewed by many as an attempt by the two-time champions to connect to a younger audience at a time when there's a spate of comic-book films such as Captain America: Civil WarX-Men Apocalypse, Doctor StrangeSuicide Squad, etcIt seems someone is a Marvel fan in the KKR social-media team.

Even though Sunrisers lost steam towards the end of the group stage, they managed to qualify thanks to a consistent run that kept them at the top of the table for the most part. Kolkata, on the other hand, managed to seal their qualification for the play-offs with a 22-run win over SRH in their final match of the group stage at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

KKR have mostly relied on the top-order duo of Gambhir and Uthappa to get them off to a good start as well as score runs in heaps, while a power-packed middle-order in Pathan, Andre Russell and Suryakumar have helped get the side quick runs, as well as chase down targets for the 2012 and 2014 title winners.
