The nomination list is out for the ICC Awards 2012 and the sad news is that India don’t have a single nomination in the Test Cricketer of the Year award. The good news though, is that Virat Kohli has been nominated for the Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year awards. MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir have also been nominated for the ODI Cricketer of the Year award, while Sachin Tendulkar has been nominated for the People’s Choice Award Six players have been nominated in three different categories— Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal, South Africa’s Hashim Amla, Australia captain Michael Clarke, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, England’s Alastair Cook and West Indies Stafanie Taylor. The function will be held on 15 September in Colombo ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012. The People’s Choice award will be chosen by cricket fans around the world who will get a chance to vote for their favourite player online from a short-list of five cricketers. Those five cricketers— Kumar Sangakkara, Sachin Tendulkar, Vernon Philander, Jacques Kallis and James Anderson— were selected by the ICC selection panel and released to the public for voting earlier this month on the basis of innovation, dynamism, strength in decision-making, performing well under pressure and executing a plan to distinction. You can vote online until 31 August. “The ceremony presents a wonderful opportunity for the ICC, along with thousands of cricket fans, to acknowledge and reward the brilliant performances of the world’s best cricketers,” said ICC Chief Executive David Richardson. The long-lists of nominations were made by a five-man ICC selection panel chaired by former West Indies captain and current chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee Clive Lloyd. The panel also includes former international players Clare Connor of England, Tom Moody of Australia, Carl Hooper of West Indies and Sri Lanka’s Marvan Atapattu. The individual player awards will be selected by an academy of 32 cricket personalities from around the world. The academy includes a host of former players and respected members of the media, representatives of the Emirates Elite Panels of ICC Umpires and ICC Match Referees. The awards will take into account cricket played between August 4th 2011 and August 6th 2012. Below is the list of nominees.
