J&K women's hockey coach arrested on charges of molestation

Hyderabad: The coach of an under-20 women hockey team from Jammu and Kashmir, Angad Singh, was arrested on charges of molestation and harassment, police said today. Hyberabad police arrested Angad Singh after a complaint by Punjab players, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Madhapur division) Goverdhan told PTI. Angad Singh, who was travelling in the New Delhi-bound AP Express train, was taken into custody yesterday at Ramagundam railway station, about 230 kms from here, in Karimnagar district, the ACP said adding that he will be produced in a court here this evening. A total of 28 teams participated in the National Women’s Hockey championship (under-20) which concluded yesterday, he said. [caption id=“attachment_588051” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Representational image, AFP[/caption] Additional Director General of Police Tejdeep Kaur Menon, who is also vice president of Hyderabad Hockey Association, said that Punjab players, all minors, complained to her that the coach, who travelled along with them in the same train while coming to Hyderabad, had harassed and attempted to molest them. After registering a case against Angad Singh under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC, we sent a special police team which scanned various trains bound for New Delhi, she said. Finally Hyberabad police nabbed him in the AP Express at Ramagundam and brought him here, the Additional DGP said. Hyderabad Hockey Association had organised a week-long National Women’s Hockey Championship (under-20) at Gachibowli sports stadium which concluded yesterday. PTI
