A 32-year-old man from England named Jack Faint has begun an incredible marathon journey across India. He is planning to run all the way from Ladakh to India’s southern tip in Kanyakumari in just 80 days, covering nearly 4,000 km. The Englishman is running 50 km in hot temperatures every day, and is supported by a small team of volunteers.
If Jack completes the challenge, he will become the first person in history to run the entire length of India. He is currently on Day 36 of running the length of India and has reached Uttar Pradesh. Before taking on this massive challenge, Jack had already completed several tough running events around the world, including a 250 km desert race in Jordan, and a 650 km run along the South African coast. These experiences prepared him for his longest run ever.
Why is Jack running the length of India?
Jack was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in 2019 while living in Australia. Doctors said the tumour would likely limit his life expectancy to 10-15 years, and he was advised to live a healthier lifestyle. Since then, Jack has completely changed his daily routine, focusing on fitness, diet, and long-distance running.
In his journey across India, Jack is supported by a team of volunteers, including Jordan Fairclough, a former physical performance coach for Liverpool FC. His helpers provide everything from food and water to massages and filming, ensuring he can run without any headache.
“This run is more than endurance. It is about celebrating that a terminal illness is not only a story of decline, but a story of possibility. It is about honouring India — its cultures, colours, and people — as the backdrop for one of the most ambitious tests of human spirit ever attempted,” read a quote on Jack’s website.
Jack started his journey from Panamik, a small village located in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh. He will cross major Indian cities in the process, including New Delhi, Agra, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Jack is expected to reach Kanyakumari in November, where his girlfriend will be present to welcome him.
