Sunil Chhetri, the biggest name in Indian football, will be up for grabs as the Indian Super League will hold its Player Auction and Player Draft on 10 July. The ISL's second season will kick off on 3 October this year.
Chhetri, along with other players who missed the inaugural ISL season due to their contracts with I-League clubs, is the most expensive player in the auction with a base price of Rs 80 lakh, according to a statement from the ISL.
Six of the ten players in the auction list — Chhetri, Robin Singh, Thoi Singh, Arata Izumi, Anas Edathodika and Karanjeet Singh - have signed with ISL promoters Football Sports Development Limited, as free agents. Meanwhile, Jackichand Singh and Seityasen Singh (who recently made their India debuts in the World Cup qualifier against Oman) have been loaned from Royal Wahingdoh. Rino Anto and Eugeneson Lyngdoh have been loaned from Bengaluru FC.
Goalkeeper Karanjeet will cost a franchisee at least Rs 60 lakhs, striker Robin Singh, playmaker Arata Izumi and centre-back Anas Edathodika have been pegged at Rs 40 lakhs. Midfielder Thoi Singh is just a notch below at Rs 39 lakhs. Lyngdoh will be at Rs 27.50 lakhs and Jackichand and Seityasen will be at Rs 20 lakhs each. Rino Anto commands the lowest base price in the auction list at Rs 17.50 lakhs.
But this is just the auction. There will be another 113 Indian players who can be signed by teams in the draft which will take place on the same day.
The eight ISL franchisees have a combined 64 Indian players on their rosters — players who they either retained from last year or signed from the open market.
The draft will help ISL franchisees fill up a total of 40 more positions of the Indian player quota. Below is the full list of the players available on the draft.
