The fate of as many as 200 Indian footballers fates will be decided on Sunday as the draft for the Indian Super League’s 2017-18 season takes place in Mumbai. This season, there are two new entrants — Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC — besides the eight existing teams. Sportzpics[/caption] When will the draft be held? The draft is scheduled to be held on Sunday, 23 July in Mumbai. How many players can each team pick? ISL regulations allow clubs to have a minimum of 15 and maximum of 18 Indian players in the squad, including two U21 development players mandatorily. Who will be the biggest names in the draft? According to sources, the price tags for players will range between Rs 1.10 crore (Eugeneson Lyngdoh and Anas Edathodika) to Rs 4 lakh (for U21 players). Players like Subrata Paul, Pritam Kotal, and Arindam Bhattacharya are some of the biggest names up for grabs. Were the teams allowed to retain players? The clubs were allowed to retain a maximum of two senior players from their 2016 squad, in addition to retaining up to three U21 players to fill up the development player quota. Eight of the nine teams have made the most of the retention regulation for the season by signing 22 domestic players in a bid to create the core of their squad. Only Delhi Dynamos have chosen start afresh by letting go all their players. How many rounds will be there in the draft? The 2017-18 ISL draft will last 15 rounds. The sequence for selection of player draft rounds for each club will be determined by a draw of lots on Saturday. Who will get the first pick in the draft? As the new team in ISL, Jamshedpur FC will get the first pick in both first and second rounds of the player draft, while Delhi Dynamos will be the second club to exercise their right in the opening round. FC Pune City who have retained only one senior player will join the above two in the second round. The rest of the six clubs, except Chennaiyin FC will join the player draft from the third round. Chennaiyin — who retained two senior players besides Jerry Lalrinzuala, a capped Indian player falling under the U21 category — will be the only club to join the player draft from fourth round. Is the 2015 season’s ‘Instant Trading Card’ rule still applicable? Yes, the Instant Trading Card rule, first successfully introduced during ISL 2015 player draft, allows teams a second chance to trade an already picked player. From the third round onwards, any club may, within 15 seconds of another club announcing its draft pick, press the buzzer to activate the “Instant Trade” process.
