New Delhi: Goals from Hans Mulder, Mads Junker, Gustavo Dos Santos and Manish Bhargav helped Delhi Dynamos overpower Mumbai City FC 4-1 victory at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday. Mulder opened the scoring as he smashed it in from close range after a defensive error just before half time to give Dynamos the lead. Janker doubled the lead five minutes into the second half before Dos Santos - who was all over the the Mumbai City defence - headed in to make it 3-0. Mumbai got back a goal through Abhishek Yadav but Delhi completed the rout when Manish Bhargav hammered one in from close range in the 90th minute. Overall, Mumbai were simply undone by the pace of Dos Santos, the vision of Junker and the hard work of Mulder. ISL[/caption] Both the sides made a host of changes to their starting line-up. Delhi Dynamos made four as Munmun Lugun, Naoba Singh, Stijn Houben and Mads Junker replaced Pavel Elias, Souvik Chakraborthy, Souvik Ghosh and Bruno Herrero. Peter Reid made three as Jan Letzelter, Peter Costa and the injured Andre Moritz made way for Subhash Singh, Sushil Kumar Singh and Freddie Ljungberg — who made his first start of the tournament. Mumbai had the first chance of the game when Lalrindika Ralte put in a delicious cross from the left but Sushil, who got into a good position, responded with a weak header wide. But from then on, it was all Dynamos. They responded quickly and had a very good chance when a loose ball fell to Dinis Dias outside the box. He nimbly ran past a couple of defenders but his powerful shot was blocked. Dynamos continued their momentum and created another chance after a couple of minutes as some slick passing between Santos and Fernandez opened up a chance for the former but his shot was blocked by Mohammad Nabi. Santos, who starred in the last match, was looking lively and giving a tough time to the Mumbai defenders with his trickery, clever back-heels and smart runs into the box. Dynamos were in the groove as they exerted constant pressure upfront. In the 12th minute, the hosts came tantalisingly close to taking the lead but a brilliant clearance off the line from Deepak Mondal denied them. Francis found Junker down the right who slipped it past goalkeeper Subrata Paul and Mondal showed great presence of mind and speed to clear it off the line. The hosts controlled the game for first 20 minutes. Stohanzl was the lone ranger for Mumbai City as he tirelessly moved forward and tracked back to make clearances to make sure Mumbai did not lose their shape during that time. After being under constant pressure, Mumbai finally got moving forward and had a good chance in the 25th minute when Subhash Singh whipped in a cross from the left — but it was wasted again, this time by Sushil. Dynamos were finally rewarded for their hard work a minute before the half time when Mulder smashed it in from close range to give the hosts the lead. It was Mulder who started the move as he released Junker down the right. Junker responded with alow cross inside the box. Friedrich makes a mess of the clearance and it fell to Fernandez who didn’t get it under control. However, Mulder was onto the ball quickly and thumped it home. Trailing by a goal, Mumbai made two changes in the half-time as Ljungberg and Ralte were replaced by Javi Fernandez and Nadong Bhutia. But Dynamos started from where they left off and doubled the lead five minutes into the second half when Dos Santos slipped in a brilliant through ball to Junker inside the box. The Danish striker rolled it past a charging Subrata to double the lead. Things could have been worse for Mumbai five minutes later when Santos was released on the right by Junker. The Brazilian cut past a couple of defenders and had ample time to shoot in an one-on-one situation but Subrata charged forward to made a terrific save. Delhi went on a rampage and it was just a matter of time that they scored another one and virtually put the game to bed. Santos was at the heart of it as he found Francis on the right. The India international’s cross came from inside the box — and Santos, who had continued his run inside box, headed it into the top right corner. Dynamos continued to feast on a toothless Mumbai defense but allowed the visitors to pull one back four minutes from time when Abhishek Yadav scored on his debut from close range. But it was Dynamos who finished in style after Manish Bhargav smashed it in from the edge of the box to seal a fantastic win for the hosts.
Mumbai were simply undone by the pace of Delhi forward Dos Santos, the vision of striker Junker and the hard work of defensive midfielder Mulder.
