ISL 2016: Delhi Dynamos coach Gianluca Zambrotta wants foreigners to 'teach' Indians

New Delhi: World Cup winner Italian Gianluca Zambrotta is serious about making a contribution in Indian football’s growth during his stint as Delhi Dynamos head coach and has asked foreign players in the Indian Super League (ISL) to “teach” the domestic players the nuances of the game. Image courtesy: Twitter/@DelhiDynamos[/caption] Zambrotta, who is in his first stint as coach in India with a two-year contract with Delhi Dynamos, said that building the base with talents scouted from all over the country and grooming them by giving them the best coaching would be key to Indian development in football. “I would urge the foreign players in the ISL to teach the Indian players. They (foreign players) should not think that they will just come in India and go back after playing in a club. If a foreign player comes in India just for holiday, then that is not good,” he said at the pre-match press conference of his side’s match against NorthEast United in New Delhi on Saturday. “The level of the league is good but it can be improved and the foreign players should play a part in it. The important thing is to make the base by scouting young players and give them the best coaching. That is very important,” said Zambrotta, who was a part of the 2006 World Cup winning Italian team. NorthEast United coach Nelo Vingada said that the ISL was very competitive and he would rate it as among the top seven leagues in Asia. “The level of ISL is very high and it’s very competitive. I would rate ISL in the top seven or top eight in Asia,” said Vingada who has coached the the national teams of Saudi Arabia and Jordan, besides FC Seoul and Persepolis clubs and the Iranian Olympic team. Vingada said at some point of time, the ISL will have to have seven Indian players (and four foreigners) instead of current six if the country will have to benefit from the league.
