Call it an uncanny coincidence if you will. Three India pacers — Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Irfan Pathan — have endured a forgettable beginning to the week for reasons varying from physical confrontation to burglary to online trolling. Irfan wouldn’t have thought in his wildest dreams that one innocuous tweet posted by him would put him squarely in the eye of a social media storm.

The photo, where Irfan can be seen with his wife Safa Baig, received flak from a lot of Twitter and Facebook users who were up in arms over the ‘un-Islamic’ image. The fast bowler was chastised for posting a photo of his wife with her ‘arms revealed’. There were also disparaging comments about his wife using nail polish. The incident is similar to the social media hounding India speedster Mohammed Shami received for posting a photo with his wife. Shami was mocked, ‘advised’ and even threatened for posting a picture from his marriage reception where the bride was wearing a sleeveless dress. Shami was also in the news for getting embroiled in a brawl near his residence in Kolkata over a parking issue. It is said that while Shami was waiting to enter his apartment, three inebriated youngsters on a motorcycle created a fuss over Shami parking his car on the road. This led to a tussle between the two sides which resulted in these three men attempting to barge into the speedster’s apartment, which led to the ‘manhandling of Shami’s caretaker’. Meanwhile, Umesh has had a bittersweet two days. He was appointed as an assistant manager at Reserve Bank of India’s Nagpur office. However, the good news was ruined when it was discovered that his Nagpur residence had been burgled. According to reports, Umesh lost Rs 45,000 in cash and a mobile phone in the burglary incident.
