IPL team owners should not be betting: Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan, the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has said that "betting is a disgusting habit" and that it is undignified for IPL team owners to take advantages of the loopholes in the rules that govern the tournament.

I think as a team owner, one should not indulge in all these practices even if you are a betting person by nature," he said in an interview with the Hindustan Times. If you're an owner, you're aware of all the rules and the loopholes and it is undignified to misuse them. If you're a traffic cop, you should try not to jump the signal even in your private car. The attitude should not be 'nobody will know so let's go'."

At the same time Shahrukh said that Raj Kundra, the co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals, and his wife Shilpa Shetty were good friends and that while Kundra would fight his battle legally, one should not simply believe statements made by bookies.

He also said he is not a betting person and, in fact, adheres to Islamic practice by not taking any interest in any form.

When asked whether he had ever been approached by a bookie, he said no and that every bookie should be caught and punished.
