IPL spot-fixing: New arrests show involvement of domestic players

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have made three more arrests in the IPL spot fixing case, taking the tally to 17 arrests - including Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Admit Chandliya. The three arrested are Sunil Bhatia, Kiran Dole aka Munna and Manish Gudheva and according to police sources, they are also on the lookout for one Babu Rao Yadav. All three arrests were made in Aurangabad by a special team of the Delhi Police. Sunil Bhatia (44) is a property dealer and fixer, Kiran Dole aka Munna (42) is a fixer and bookie and Manish Gudheva (32) is a former Ranji player from Vidarbha who knew Chandlia from his days in Faridabad - where he lived prior to 2000. Gudheva who played Ranji for Vidharbha from 2003-2005 was friends with Chandila andwas the one who introduced Bhatia and Dole to Chandila, polices sources have said. “We have been intercepting them as well. They were moving from Nagpur, Mumbai etc. From the probe it now emerges that these domestic players have been acting as handlers. Chandila was in touch with four sets of bookies,” said the source. Aside from the three players arrested, three of the bookies arrested so far – Manish Gudheva, Amit Singh and Jiju Janardhan – are all former cricketers. Another player, who plays for the Railways Ranji team is also expected to be involved and the police hope to arrest him shortly. Police say the three arrested were connected to Ashwini alias Tiku Mandi, the bookie who is already in police custody, and would spot fix for him.
