Coming soon: Malayalam movie on Sreesanth's spot-fixing drama

From late night arrests to cryptic signals for bookies, the details surrounding the IPL spot fixing fiasco have been, if nothing else, very good drama. From the lurid details of how Sreesanth was arrested (he apparently threw a fit and demanded that the police call the Maharashtra and Kerala Chief Ministers to know his influence) to the decoding of pre-determined signals like ‘Towel in pant’ and ’turning wristwatches’ that indicated the bowlers were gearing up to fix overs - it really is the stuff of movies. According to a report in the Times of India, two Malayalam filmmakers, Shaji Kailas and AK Sajan are getting ready to make a film titled Cricket, which is loosely based on Sreesanth’s life and will explore the cricket-underworld nexus. According to the report, “It’s about the rise and fall of a young Malayali cricketer. The lead character is a young all-rounder from a small school in Kerala who reaches great heights because of his talent and hard work. But after attaining fame, greed takes over and he starts wishing for things he never wanted and ends up doing things he would never have.” Sounds familiar? The filmmakers haven’t said how the film ends. Perhaps they’re waiting to see how the real life drama plays out.
