As it happened: Gilchrist ends IPL stint with match-winning wicket

Click here for the live scorecard. Kings XI Punjab have beaten Mumbai Indians by 50 runs. 1930: Wicket! Harbhajan c Gurkeerat b Gilchrist 5 (8b, 0x4, 0x6): And tell you what!! Gilchrist bowls the most basic form of an off-spinner and Harbhajan’s one-handed shot is straight to Gurkeerat at long-on. Wicket on his first ball before a full-blown Gangnam style celebration. Absolute legend, this guy. Dhawal Kulkarni is not going to bat, with a slight strain… so Kings XI have won. Adam Gilchrist is going to bowl for the first time in the IPL. 1923: Wicket! Coulter-Nile b Mahmood 9 (6b, 0x4, 1x6): Absolutely top-class from Azhar Mahmooh - his yorker starting outside off-stump before swinging in towards Coulter-Nile’s off-stump. Unplayable, that one. MI are 131-8 after 18.2 overs. 1915: Wicket! Dhawan lbw b Mahmood 14 (15b, 2x4, 0x6): Mahmood follows up his 80-run act with a wicket. His yorker seems to be going down the leg side, but it’s been given anyway. MI are 119-7 after 16.5 overs. 1910: Wicket! Pollard c Miller b Sharma 22 (21b, 1x4, 1x6): Pollard relied too much on his luck. He was caught three times in a row - but the first time was on a no-ball, the second time on a free-hit and the third time in a legitimate delivery. The big man walks back, but he may have created some history by having to be caught thrice to be dismissed! MI are 117-6 after 16 overs. 1900: The 13th and 14th over fetched just two four for Mumbai, with the asking rate climbing to over 14/over. In the 15th however, Pollard heaves a huge six and it took some time to bring the ball back. Rishi Dhawan then pulls it away for four and MI have crossed the 100-run mark. It’s 107-5 after 15 overs. 1850: Wicket! Sharma b Chawla 25 (25b, 2x4, 1x6): Piyush Chawla’s been exceptional for Kings XI today. The pitch is assisting him and Chawla is making the most of it. This time he went for the top-spinner and Rohit missed his cut–that’s the end of his innings. MI are 78-5 after 12 overs. 1840: Wicket! Karthik c & b Chawla 0 (3b, 0x4, 0x6): Excellent from Chawla! He invites the drive and Karthik is in half a mind to play the shot. He does and it’s straight back to the bowler. MI are struggling now, at 69-4 after 9.3 overs. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s huge six just before the wicket is worth mentioning. Top shot. 1835: Wicket! Rayudu c Gilchrist b Awana 26 (22b, 3x4, 0x6): Oh he tries to hook it away and the faint edge is straight to Gilchrist… or was it some glove? Either way, Rayadu’s walking and MI are 62-3 after 8.4 overs.  1823: Four-Four-Four! Rayadu, who has disappointed at times in this tournament, looks in the mood today. He carries off from the previous over, where he lobbed the ball for four – to hit two more in this over. He chooses to go over the bowler’s head before picking the gap at midwicket. Rohit then pulls for four more. MI are 51-2 after six overs. 1815: Wicket! Tare b Sandeep Sharma 22 (12b, 2x4, 2x6): That brings an end to Tare’s cameo. Sandeep gets slammed for a huge but gets his vengeance by knocking out Tare’s off-stump — that one was through the bat and pad! MI are 27-2 after four overs. 1805: Tare’s four and six should get Mumbai going, and ironically they come off the over of Mahmood. Usually very disciplined, he gives away 11 runs in the 2nd over. It’s 13-1 after two overs. 1755: Wicket! Maxwell c Vohra b Kumar 0 (3b, 0x4, 0x6): That is just wasteful. Maxwell plays across the line and the leading edge goes straight to third-man. MI are 0-1 after 0.3 overs. Mumbai Indians need 184 runs to beat Kings XI Punjab 1730 - 100 IPL wickets for Malinga: The Sri Lankan has dismissed Praveen Kumar with a trademark yorker that took his stump for a ride to get to 100 wicket! Piyush Chawla was also run-out on the previous delivery. Mumbai managed to peg back the Kings XI at the death, but the damage was already done. KXIP finish at 183-8 after 20 overs. Wickets! DA Miller c Coulter-Nile b Pollard 6 (5b 1x4 0x6) Gurkeerat Singh lbw b Malinga 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) Two quick blows for Kings XI as they enter the last over. Vohra however, is piling on the runs from the other end. He’s already hit four fours and if he’s around in the last over, expect some big hits. KXIP are 174-6 after 19.1 overs. Wicket! Azhar Mahmood lbw b Malinga 80 (44b, 8x4, 4x6): So both the big-hitters are gone now. Malinga manages to trap Mahmood bang in front of the stumps on a fulltoss delivery. KXIP are 156-4 after 17.2 overs. Wicket! Marsh b Harbhajan Singh 63 (47b, 11x4, 0x6): Quicker delivery does the trick for Bhajji. Marsh looks to heave it over long-on but the ball manages to rap the bails. KXIP are 154-3 after 16.4 overs. 1715: Two lifelines for Punjab in a single over, and that should leave bowler Dhawan furious! First Mahmood is dropped by Coulter-Nile before Harbhajan Singh spills Marsh’s catch. Both the batsmen go onto to smack three more four in the next two overs, to take KXIP to 143-2 after 16 overs. 1655: Incredible hitting from these two! While Harbhajan Singh’s overs (9th and 11th) weren’t really expensive, Mahmood and Marsh have hammered Pollard and Maxwell. In Maxwell’s over, the 13th of the innings, Mahmood smacked back to back sixes followed by a four. Both the batsmen have reached their half-centuries. Mahmood is on 50 (27b, 5x4, 3x6) and Marsh is also on 50 (39b, 9x4). KXIP are 108-2 after 13 overs. 1630: Malings has been introduced into the attack, and has already tried a couple of yorkers which were blocked. However, his short ball almost did the trick, but Azhar Mahmood’s top edge off a bouncer clears fine-leg for six. He then dispatched him for four more through point before driving with aplomb to beat mid-off. To make matters worse, he then glances him for another four and finishes off with a single. Excellent batting against a ferocious bowler. KXIP are 63-2 after eight overs. 1620: Kings XI have slowly started getting some runs — with Shaun Marsh playing a couple of fine boundaries — one played through extra-cover while the other perfectly timed through the on-side. That should lift the spirits in Dharamsala. Kings XI are 22-2 after five overs. Bowled him! Gilchrist b Coulter-Nile 5 (7b, 1x4): He plays across the line, trying to slam it over the on-side, but misses and sees the stumps take a beating! KXIP are 6-2 after 2.2 overs Wicket! Mandeep Singh c Pollard b R Dhawan 1 (5b): Oh easy as it gets! Mandeep’s put one straight in the hands of short mid-off. KXIP are 2-1 after 1.4 overs. 1605: An over gone, and it’s been a quiet one. Two quick singles in it is all. KXIP are 2-0 after one over. No Sachin Tendulkar in the MI team: A Tare, G Maxwell, D Karthik, RG Sharma, K Pollard, A Rayudu, H Singh, N Coulter-Nile, L Malinga, R Dhawan, D Kulkarni Kings XI: A Gilchrist, S Marsh, A Mahmood, M Singh, D Miller, M Vohra, GM Singh, P Chawla, P Kumar, P Awana, S Sharma Mumbai Indians have won the toss and will bowl first. Preview: Having struck some form in the past couple of matches, Kings XI Punjab now face the daunting task of taking on table-toppers and strong title contenders Mumbai Indians. Mumbai are already through to the playoffs along with Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals. The fourth spot is still up for grabs and the teams in contention for that are Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
