A break in the auction Time for lunch. It’s been hectic, it’s been crazy. Yuvraj Singh sold to RCB for Rs 14 crore, DD bought Karthik for 12.5 cr and Kevin Pietersen for Rs 9 crore. M Johnson went to KXIP for Rs 6.50 cr. Time to let the dust settle down a bit. Here’s what the new teams look like Muralitharan bought by RCB RCB make an emotional buy – get Murali for Rs 1 cr. Rahul Sharma goes to DD The former India leg-spinner goes to DD for Rs 1.9 cr. Ajantha Mendis, Murli Kartik, Nathan McCullum, Robin Peterson go unsold No buyers for them. Ojha goes to DD MI had the right to match DD’s 3.25 cr bid but they did just that. A good keep. Piyush Chawla on the block and he goes to KKR The leg-spinner has been pretty successful in the IPL and a fierce bidding war ensues between DD and KKR. He is sold at 4.25 to KKR. KXIP had the right to match and they did not. Morne Morkel goes to KKR Slow steady rise for the lanky SA paceman – he is sold for 2.8 cr to KKR. Vinay Kumar goes to KKR The Karnataka captain was inspirational in the Ranji Trophy and goes to KKR for 2.8 cr. Well worth the price. Praveen Kumar remains unsold No one wants Praveen Kumar – certainly not at his base price of Rs 2 crore. Umesh Yadav goes to KKR KKR, CSK, SH – all jump in. Fleming looked like he wanted this player. KKR edged them out at Rs 2.6 cr. DD had the right to match but they did not exercise the right. Rampaul goes to RCB The West Indies fast bowler goes to RCB for Rs 90 lakhs. A decent buy – he has a good yorker and can use the long handle well too. Shami goes to DD DD and KXIP fight over Shami but it is DD who come out on top – win the player at Rs 4.25 cr. Bhuvi rakes in Rs 4.25 cr SH get another paceman in at Rs 4.25 crore. Interesting bit – can his drop in form be turned around? Ishant goes to SH SH retain Ishant for 2.6 cr. He had a good season for them last time round. Ishant Sharma Another bowler for RCB Dinda goes to RCB for Rs 1.5 cr. Not a bad buy. He can be a match-winner at times. Starc goes for 5 cr to RCB On to the fast men, Starc has impressed a lot of people it seems and he has been bought for Rs 5 cr. Shakib-al-Hasan goes to KKR KKR get Shakib-al-Hasan for 2.8 cr. A great buy – the Bangaldeshi allrounder knows the conditions well and can be a match-winner with both bat and ball. Dilshan, Mahmood also unsold The Sri Lanka captain and the former Pakistan allrounder go nowhere. They can come up for the auction tomorrow. Irfan Pathan goes to SH The injured allrounder goes to the SH for 2.4 cr. Angelo Mathews unsold No one wants the Sri Lankan captain. David Hussey goes unsold This is a bit of a surprise. Albie Morkel goes to RCB A good buy for Rs 2.4 cr. He was used well by Dhoni at CSK and it will be interesting to see how Kohli utilizes him. Thisara Perera sold for 1.6 cr The talented SL allrounder goes to KXIP for 1.6 cr. He finished very well for SH and this is a bit of a surprise. They got him cheap. Yusuf Pathan stays with KKR This is a tough call. His form has been patchy and he clearly has a weakness in his technique. But still he is sold for 3.25 cr to KXIP. KKR match the bid and retain his services. Steven Smith goes to RR The Australian allrounder was superb for Pune last season and has improved as a batsman. At 4 cr, he is a steal for the Rajasthan Royals. Kieswetter, Wade, Perera remain unsold The Aussie keeper remains unsold in today’s auction as does the man from England. The man from Sri Lanka also goes nowhere. Patel goes to RCB Parthiv 1.4 cr to RCB. This isn’t a bad buy at all. He knows his way around the IPL and it might free up AB to concentrate on just his batting. Saha goes to KXIP The Bengal keeper goes to KXIP for 2.2 cr. Now a bad buy – KXIP has had very interesting buys so far. De Kock gets the big money DD get him for 3.5 cr – this is a brilliant buy. He is young and is superb form. Can hit the ball a long way too. Naman Ojha unsold Bidding starts at 50 lakhs and goes nowhere. He is unsold. Dwayne Smith goes to CSK MI had him last season but they don’t want him this time round. He goes to CSK for Rs 4.5 cr. Tiwary goes to DD The Bengal batsman is sold to DD for 2.8 cr. He has a lot of things to prove and this could be perfect for him. Shaun Marsh goes to KXIP The Australian opener was a big success for KXIP a couple of seasons back and he is back with them for a price of Rs 2.2 cr. Hodge goes to RR The Aussie veteran stays with RR for Rs 2.4 cr. KKR get Uthappa for Rs 5 cr. KKR get Uthappa for Rs 5 cr. He has turned things around in recent times – lost weight and things are starting to come back together for him. Duminy sold at 2.2 cr to DD DD snaps up the mercurial Duminy for 2.2 cr. Pujara goes for just Rs 1.9 cr It took a while to get the bidding started but it never reached great heights. Pujara sold to 1.9 cr to KXIP. RCB refused the right to match. Finch goes to SH to Rs 4 cr Bidding war for Finch, he was great for Pune last season and has continued his good form for Australia. He goes to SH for Rs 4 cr. Ross the boss goes to no one He remains unsold and will come up in the auction again tomorrow. Zak will play for MI The left-armer will play the next season for MI – he was bought for 2.60 cr. RCB did not want to match the bid. SH decide to keep Mishra Leg-spinner Amit Mishra kept by SH for 4.75 cr. He had a very good season last time round and they will hope he can repeat his performance. Hussey to play for MI Michael Hussey is going to play for MI in IPL 7 - he has been bought for Rs 5 crore. He recently retired from international cricket. McCullum goes for 3.25 crore McCullum goes to CSK for 3.25 crore. Maybe backup for Dhoni or they might just push him to open the innings. Either way – he is a brilliant fielder too. DD buy Karthik for Rs 12.5 cr This is pretty crazy. He is good player but is he worth 12.5 crore. Kirsten probably sees utility value as an allrounder – keeper. Du Plessis goes to 4.75 cr DD won the bidding war but CSK chose to keep the player. The SA player is quite a star and this is a good keep. Sammy sells for 3.5 cr It took a while to get going but then things heated up a little and pushed Sammy above Sehwag – who is still the cheapest buy among the marquee players. He is sold for 3.5 cr to DD but the bid is matched by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bailey goes to KXIP George Bailey was superb during the ODIs in India but couldn’t do a thing right during the Ashes Down Under. But his form in the subcontinent prompted KXIP to snap him up for 3.25 cr. The auction begins again after a short break Second set of marquee players coming up now. Sehwag finds a buyer! After a lull, the bidding began. It initially looked like no one wanted him by then KXIP started it off and MI jumped in as well. But Punjab came out tops in the end – they bid 3.2 crore for him and DD didn’t want to match the price. Kallis commands a superb price CSK take the SA allrounder for 5.5 cr. KKR had the option to match the bid and they do. So he stays with them. Yuvraj Singh goes for 14 cr Yuvraj Singh: 14 cr to the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Wow. This is big money for a player who has been struggling for form. Teams breaking bank for Pietersen Massive bidding war. Pietersen goes to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 9 crore but DD match the bid and keep the player. This is a good buy when you consider that he has been dropped from the England team and will be available for the entire season. Mahela unsold! Anderson, surprisingly, has kept his base price low at Rs.1 crore while prominent names like Kevin Pietersen, Yuvraj Singh, Ashes hero Mitchell Johnson, Mike Hussey and Virender Sehwag are in the top bracket with a base price of Rs.2 crore. Anderson impressed with his performance against India as well with both bat and ball. He had scores of 68 not out, 44 and 8 in the three ODIs and also picked up 10 wickets, including a five-wicket-haul. For England discard Pietersen, it will be chance to resurrect his international career after selectors dropped him from the squad for the World Twenty20. With no international commitments in singh, Pietersen is likely to be available for the entire duration of the tournament. Another cricketer, who will be trying to following the footsteps of Pietersen is India’s Virender Sehwag, who has been completely sidelined by the selectors.
