IPL 10: From Ishant Sharma to Eoin Morgan, final list of players to be auctioned on 20 February
The Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday released the final list of players to go under the hammer at the player auctions ahead of the tenth edition.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday released the final list of players to go under the hammer at the player auctions ahead of the tournament's tenth edition. Out of the 799 players registered, the organisers shortlisted 351 players as per the wishlists submitted by the franchises. The final roster includes 122 international capped players involving six players from the associate nations.
Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran, all from Afghanistan, have made the cut with Chirag Suri of UAE being the other player from the associate nations.
Ishant Sharma is the only Indian player among the seven players to have a maximum base price for INR 2 crore. English trio of Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes and all-rounder Chris Woakes have also managed to attract the maximum base price permitted. Australian duo of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Johnson, along with Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews, are the others with the 2-crore base price.
Pawan Negi, who went for a whooping 8.5 crore in the last auction, is listed at a base price of INR 30 lakh this time around.
The eight franchises might be unwilling to spend big in the upcoming auction, considering they will have to put most of their players back into the bidding pot when the league undergoes an overhaul for the 2018 edition. But with quite a few big international names up for grabs, there will be enough to keep the franchises interested in 2017.
The right-to-match option, which will allow the franchises to get back their player if they match the highest bid he receives in the auctions next year, may prompt the teams to go all out for the top players this time around, so that they enhance their chances of keeping them in the future. But the IPL is yet to clarify the retention rules, which may affect how teams spend both this year and next year.
The auction before the tenth edition of the IPL will be held on 20 February in Bangalore.
It was 2016 and England were going through a big transformation under the leadership of Eoin Morgan.
Nabi was named captain of the final Afghan squad on 10 October after star all-rounder Rashid Khan declined the role alleging that he was not consulted while selecting the team.
Kolkata Knight Riders knocked Delhi Capitals out with a three-wicket win in Qualifier 2, setting up a repeat of the 2012 final with Eoin Morgan's men now facing Chennai Super Kings in the final.
