IOC Session: Check who is attending the grand event in Mumbai

India are all set to host the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session for the second time, marking a return of the event almost after 40 years. The 86th IOC Session was previously held in New Delhi in 1983. The IOC Session, scheduled to be held at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. The 141st IOC Session will be held from 15-17 October. IOC Session 2023 will bring around 1,000 members of the global media from more than 150 nations and representing over 50 sporting nations. The heads of sports federations like basketball, wrestling, badminton, hockey, athletics and more are expected to attend the event as well. IOC President Thomas Bach, along with other notable Indian sports personalities, will also attend the session, as per an official release. Prominent names like, World Athletics president Sebastian Coe, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission Dakar Youth Olympics 2026 Kirsty Coventry, Olympic shooting champion Abhinav Bindra, Olympic gold medallist Yelena Isinbayeva, Olympic 10,000m silver medallist and National Olympic Committee of Kenya President Paul Tergat, Olympic pole vault gold medallist Sergey Bubka will also reportedly be present at the IOC Session. Among points of discussion and vote will be cricket’s return to the Olympic in 2028 at Los Angeles. The 2028 Olympics could also recognise games like - baseball or softball, flag football, lacrosse and squash as Olympic sports. The Mumbai’s IOC Session is expected to give the much-important approval at its Executive Board meeting. The chairperson of the LA28, Casey Wasserman, was encouraging in his response when he noted, “The LA28’s proposed sports ignite the imagination on the field of play and drive culture off it. They’re relevant, innovative and community-based, played in backyards, schoolyards, community centers, stadiums and parks across the US and the globe. They will bring new athletes to the Games, engage diverse fanbases and expand the Games’ presence in digital spaces, further amplifying LA28’s mission to deliver an unparalleled experience.” IOC’s 99 voting members, 45 honorary members, one honour member and leadership representatives from more than 50 International Sports Federations attend a session. Having secured 99 per cent votes, Mumbai was elected as the host of the 141st IOC Session. India had won the rights to host the IOC Session in February 2022 when a delegation comprising IOC member Mrs. Nita Ambani and Bindra made a compelling case for the country in Beijing.
