India’s Amit Kumar bagged the silver medal in 55 Kg. Free Style class at the 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championship being held at Budapest.

India’s Amit Kumar bagged the silver medal in 55 Kg. Free Style class at the 2013 Senior World Wrestling Championship being held at Budapest. In the first round he got a bye. In the second round, he defeated Japanese Wrestler Yasuhiro Inaba by a margin of 10-2. In the next round, he defeated French wrestler Zoheir Elo Arraque by a resounding margin 8-0 and qualified for the quaters. Reuters[/caption] In the quarterfinal round, he defeated US wrestler Agelo Alesmo Escobedo 6-0 and qualified for semi-final. Again in the semi-final round, he defeated Turkey’s wrestler Sezar Akgul 8-0 and made it to the final. Unfortunately, in the final, he lost to a close bout to Iran’s Rahimi Hassan Farma 1-2 points and missed out on the gold in 55 Kg. of Free Style. He had to be content with a silver medal. The other 2 wrestlers viz. Arun, 66 Kg. Free Style & Satyavart Kadayan, 96 Kg. Free Style lost their bouts and even could not qualify for the bronze medal bout. Sushil Kumar was due to participate in the 66kg class, but failed to take to the mat due to fitness issues and was replaced by Arun Kumar. The competition in 60 Kg., 74 Kg., 84 Kg. weight categories of Free Style will be held today.
