India vs WI as it happened: Sammy flourish takes Windies to victory

For the full scorecard, CLICK HERE 2141 IST West Indies 289/8 after 49.3 overs (Sammy 63, Permaul 0) West Indies win it in singles. Sammy gets a single off the first ball from Mohit Sharma. Permaul gets a legbye off the second ball as it hits the thigh pad and drops on the offside. And Sammy finished off the match with a single to midwicket. He ends up with 63 from 45 balls, four fours and four sixes. West Indies win by two wickets and the series is all tied up at 1-1. Sets things up nicely for the final game in Kanpur, which will be day game so dew will not be a factor. WICKET! Narine c sub (AT Rayudu) b Mohammed Shami 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) Narine goes for a duck trying to hook a short ball. The top edge settles in square leg’s hands. But Sammy is back at the striker’s end. West Indies 285 for 8 after 48.5 overs. Sammy gets a single to keep the strike. West Indies need 3 to win from the last over. WICKET! Holder c †Dhoni b Mohammed Shami 7 (5b 1x4 0x6) More daft batting. Holder charges Shami with just four to win and has a wild swipe. Dhoni accepts the edge this time but it is too little, too late. West Indies 285 for 7 after 48.2 overs. 2132 IST West Indies 283/6 after 48 overs (Sammy 60, Holder 5) Sammy brings up his 50 with a single. Excellent knock. If only he would play like this more often. In the Tests, he went down swinging almost immediately. Here he has picked his spots to attack and even left a ball or two. Dropped! Holder drives at a full delivery and gets an edge but Dhoni flubs another one. Holder capitalises by driving Bhuvi between point and third man, both of whom are in the circle. Sammy pulls a waist-high full toss to deep midwicket. Dhoni folds his hands and looks like someone stole his dinner. It gets worse as Bhuvi bowls another full toss that Sammy happily crashes over the long-on fielder and the boundary. 2123 IST West Indies 267/6 after 47 overs (Sammy 49) WICKET! Simmons lbw b Jadeja 62 (74b 5x4 1x6) Simmons was struggling against Jadeja. Had a wild swipe earlier in the over and was struck on the body. This one came in with the arm and kept a bit low. Simmons was stuck on the back foot and it hit him in front of leg stump. 2120 IST West Indies 263/5 after 46 overs (Simmons 61, Sammy 47) Shami it is to continue. India need a wicket. Simmons tries to oblige this time. Charges the bowler and slaps at a short ball. Doesn’t get hold of it so it doesn’t carry to long-off. Kohli slaps his hands in disgust. Meanwhile Sammy gets a change of bat. Also gets a single. Simmons calmly cuts past point. Dhawan moves to his right as the ball goes him on the left. Ends the over by smashing a low full toss over long-on for another SIX! 2109 IST West Indies 250/5 after 45 overs (Simmons 55, Sammy 40) Sir Jadeja is back. Windies need 41 from 36. First three deliveries produce just a legbye. A single from the remaining three. Stems the runs. 39 needed from the last five now. 2109 IST West Indies 248/5 after 44 overs (Simmons 54, Sammy 39) Mohit returns. India needs a wicket. Sammy tries to oblige by taking a wild swing but misses everything. Just stood there and had a mighty heave. Replays produce a sound as the ball passes the bat but nobody appealed. Sammy then shows the other side of his game by slamming a huge SIX over long-on. Picked up a half-volley and slammed it into the crowd. 11 from the over and 48 from teh last 5. The game is well and truly on now. 2102 IST West Indies 237/5 after 43 overs (Simmons 52, Sammy 32) Simmons slog-sweeps Jadeja for a huge SIX off the first ball. Also brings up his half-century. Could we actually see an upset tonight? Sammy rubs it in with a four to square leg. Huge appeal for lbw but that was going miles down legside. India getting a bit desperate. 2057 IST West Indies 226/5 after 42 overs (Simmons 45, Sammy 28) Dropped! Yuvraj Singh of all people. Simmons goes for a wild slog. The bat turns in his hands and he skies the ball to long-on. Yuvi looks to be comfortably under it. Then it pops out, he grabs it again, it pops out again, he grabs it a third time with one hand and it falls out a third time. He glares at Raina who has run across from long-off, as if he was put off. But it was really just Yuvi making a hash of it. The fielding in this match has been horrific. Ambati Rayudu, on as a substitute, gives away an overthrow as well just to prove my point. Sammy picks Bhuvi up and deposits him over the square leg boundary for SIX to end the over. A good couple of overs for the Windies. 2052 IST West Indies 215/5 after 41 overs (Simmons 43, Sammy 19) Sammy starts to use the long handle. Punches a low full toss from Shami through the covers. Then somehow manages to pull a short delivery from offstump to the square leg boundary. Awkward but effective. 12 from the over. 2044 IST West Indies 203/5 after 40 overs (Simmons 43, Sammy 7) Bhuvi to bowl the last of the batting PowerPlay overs. Gives away just three runs. Those five overs produced 15 runs and cost 2 wickets. The big question for the West Indies is when do they decide to start their finishing kick. The target isn’t out of reach for a decent batting side, but they are not exactly that. 2040 IST West Indies 200/5 after 39 overs (Simmons 42, Sammy 5) Shami is back. He hasn’t looked very threatening in this game without reverse swing and his pace doesn’t seem to down too. The West Indies couldn’t play him in Kolkata but here his four overs have gone for 27. The 200 also comes for the West Indies. They need 89 from 11 overs now. 2034 IST West Indies 194/5 after 38 overs (Simmons 38, Sammy 2) Simmons tries to slog Jadeja but mistimes his legside heave both times. Both shots produce zero runs. This is the problem West Indies will have to overcome. 2030 IST West Indies 191/5 after 37 overs (Simmons 35, Sammy 3) Just three from Bhuvi’s over. West Indies once again have to build a stand. Sammy can belt the ball around a bit but this pitch isn’t best suited to that. Required-rate is now 7.53 so the West Indies need to keep an eye on it. 2026 IST West Indies 188/5 after 36 overs (Simmons 33, Sammy 2) Jadeja follows up the fall of a wicket with a maiden. How long can Darren Sammy keep his composure? Might not be long for the end now. WICKET! Bravo c Dhawan b Kumar 18 (26b 2x4 0x6) Bhuvi is back and the West Indies captain hands him a gift. Short from Bhuvi and Dwayne B goes for the pull but hits the ball up in the air and finds Shikhar Dhawan on the square leg boundary. Dwayne B bends over in disbelief and stares at his bat. It isn’t the bat, Dwayne. It’ s the head. Dhawan was the only man in the deep on the legside too. West Indies 185/5 after 34.3 overs.2016 IST West Indies 185/4 after 34 overs (Simmons 31, Dwayne Bravo 17) Dwayne B crashes Raina through the covers. Raina is not having the impact today that he had in the first game. These conditions don’t suit him as much. Nine from the over. 2007 IST West Indies 174/4 after 32 overs (Simmons 29, Dwayne Bravo 10) Dwayne B crashes Raina over the covers to end the over. West Indies showing some fight here. 2004 IST West Indies 169/4 after 31 overs (Simmons 28, Dwayne Bravo 6) Simmons paddle sweeps Jadeja to the fine leg fence. Six come from the over. It feels like the result is inevitable now but perhaps the Windies can surprise us. 2000 IST West Indies 163/4 after 30 overs (Simmons 23, Dwayne Bravo 5) Raina has replaced Ashwin, who finishes with figures of 2 for 37. The Windies manage just a single off Raina this time around. The required rate is still manageable at 6.30 runs an over. 1953 IST West Indies 160/4 after 28 overs (Simmons 21, Dwayne Bravo 3) Jadeja gets a bit loose and Simmons cuts him through point off consecutive balls. India probably figure they have the match won at this point. Simmons is the last top order batsman in this side and he averages about 32. The question is will we see a collapse? WICKET! Powell st †Dhoni b Ashwin 59 (70b 7x4 1x6) Powell’s turn for a brain fade. He strolls down the pitch, gets nowhere near the ball, which turns far away from the bat and Dhoni effectively runs him out. Powell stands still for a moment as the realisation that he has thrown away his wicket dawns on him. He had played so well to this point too. It just boggles the mind. West Indies 147 for 4 after 26.1 overs. 1944 IST West Indies 147/3 after 26 overs (Powell 59, Simmons 12) Umpires change the ball. Jadeja gets turn. Simmon tries to guide him into Raina’s hands at slip, but the ball just doesn’t carry. Playing with an open face when he should have been playing with a straight bat. He eschews all such formalities by slogging Jadeja over mid-on. That perhaps was not the most judicious stroke but he got four for it. 1943 IST West Indies 141/3 after 25 overs (Powell 59, Simmons 6) Powell clubs a lazy full toss from Ashwin to the square leg boundary. Safe shot with no fielder in sight. He is showing much more application here than he did in the Tests. West Indies need him to go on and make a big score. They don’t have much batting after this. 1936 IST West Indies 134/3 after 24 overs (Powell 54, Simmons 4) Time for Sir Jadeja. Powell meanwhile got his half-century in the previous over with a four to fine leg. Three runs from Jadeja’s first over. 1928 IST WICKET! Bravo c †Dhoni b Ashwin 50 (54b 8x4 0x6) Oh Darren B, what have you done? He can’t stop himself from playing that forcing cut shot of the back foot. Was dropped twice playing that shot in Ashwin’s previous over so presumably thought India would keep dropping them. Beaten by the bounce again and this time Dhoni holds on. Daft, just daft. West Indies 123/3 now. 1926 IST West Indies 123/2 after 22 overs (Powell 48, Darren Bravo 50) Dropped! Darren B doing his best to get out. Chips one back at Shami, who reacts late. Sticks his left hand out but can’t hold on. He rubs it in by guiding a slower yorker to the third man boundary. Follows it up with a single to point get to his 50 from 53 balls. Out of nowhere Powell unleashes a vicious pull to send Shami over the midwicket boundary for SIX. Brings up the 100 partnership at more than a run-a-ball. 1923 IST West Indies 114/2 after 22 overs (Powell 40, Darren Bravo 50) Dropped! Darren B doing his best to get out but India’s fielders doing their best to emulate the West Indies. This time Darren B chipped one back at Shami, who reacts late. Sticks his left hand out but can’t hold on. The batsman rubs it in by guiding a slower yorker to the third man boundary. Follows it up with a single to point get to his 50 from 53 balls. 1920 IST West Indies 109/2 after 21 overs (Powell 40, Darren Bravo 45) Dropped! Darren B plays a loose shot and Dhoni drops another one. He is beaten by the bounce and the thin edge went into Dhoni’s gloves and popped out. A colleague says must have been the dew. Dropped! Darren B doesn’t learn his lesson and goes hard at another delivery and is beaten by the bounce again. This one screams off edge and straight at Raina’s face at first slip. He throws up his hands but the ball bounces off them. To be fair, he had very little time to react to that one. So much for these two showing patience. 1917 IST West Indies 106/2 after 20 overs (Powell 39, Darren Bravo 43) Shami comes back. West Indies pick up four byes. A clip through midwicket gives Powell a couple more. A sameness to the game at the moment. Also, good commitment being shown by these two West Indian batsmen. 1912 IST West Indies 100/2 after 19 overs (Powell 37, Darren Bravo 43) Darren B gets a thick edge that gets away from slip and to the ropes to bring up the 100 for West Indies. The scoring rate has slowed considerably – just 21 from the last 5 overs - so that explains why these two are looking comfortable. They are not trying to force the issue in any way. 1907 IST West Indies 96/2 after 18 overs (Powell 37, Darren Bravo 39) Darren does his best Lara impersonation with a delectable cover drive. When he plays those shots, you wonder why he only averages 32. The difference might be Lara wanted to be the best batsman in the world. Don’t get the same impression from Darren B. 1900 IST West Indies 90/2 after 17 overs (Powell 34, Darren Bravo 32) Time to milk Ashwin too. Singles available all over the park and these two are actually settling for them. One of the problems West Indies had in the Test series was they didn’t rotate the strike enough. Not a problem today. 1857 IST West Indies 86/2 after 16 overs (Powell 34, Darren Bravo 32) Darren B tries an ugly swipe at Raina and is lucky to get two runs from an inside edge. Six from the over, the other four in singles. None of India’s bowlers looking like wicket-takers at the moment. 1856 IST West Indies 80/2 after 15 overs (Powell 32, Darren Bravo 28) Ashwin keeping things tight but these two looking quite solid at the moment. Not many silly shots on offer to this point. 1853 IST West Indies 79/2 after 14 overs (Powell 31, Darren Bravo 28) A good over becomes an expensive one after Darren B picks up six runs from the last two deliveries, including tickling the last ball to the fine leg the boundary. Powell and Darren B have added 56 from 50 balls to this point. 1850 IST West Indies 71/2 after 13 overs (Powell 30, Darren Bravo 21) A series of singles. West Indies motoring along here but they are always one wicket away from a collapse 1846 IST West Indies 67/2 after 12 overs (Powell 28, Darren Bravo 19) Spin from both ends. India’s best bowler from the first ODI – Suresh Raina – gets another chance to pad his bowling stats. Powell comes down the track and though Raina sees him coming and fires the ball in at his pads, Powell is able to adjust and flick him to the midwicket boundary. 1842 IST West Indies 60/2 after 11 overs (Powell 22, Darren Bravo 18) Ashwin is India’s first spinner to make an appearance with the ball. Starts with a maiden. Gets one to turn away from Darren B’s defensive prod. That will encourage him. 1838 IST West Indies 60/2 after 10 overs (Powell 22, Darren Bravo 18) India still having trouble with their third seamer. Darren B brings up the 50 for West Indies with a front foot slash through the vacant point region. Then plays arguably the shot of the match when he leans on a half-volley and sends it singing through the covers. He makes it three in three by throwing his bat at a wide one and getting the ball over the close-in fielders and away to the point boundary. Dhoni responds by putting a man back there and bringing in long-off. 1833 IST West Indies 46/2 after 9 overs (Powell 21, Darren Bravo 5) Our first Shami sighting. Whether we get reverse swing is another question though. There appears to be a swimming pool’s worth of dew on the field, so it is impossible to keep the ball dry. Bravo ends the over with one of his luscious looking cover drives. 1827 IST West Indies 41/2 after 8 overs (Powell 19, Darren Bravo 1) Powell dealing in boundaries now. Mohit’s turn to be driven through the covers. Mohit immediately gets one to come back in and dart between bat and pad. Unfortunately, it was a couple of feet outside off as Powell chased a wide one and played miles away from his body. 1823 IST West Indies 35/2 after 7 overs (Powell 15, Darren Bravo 0) Dhoni decides to come up to Bhuvi too and an edge from Powell goes past him with no first slip. Bhuvi immediately tests Powell with a short ball but the batsman is equal to it and hooks him away for another four. Powell makes it three boundaries in the over with a crunching straight drive past the bowler. 1817 IST WICKET! Samuels c †Dhoni b MM Sharma 8 (10b 2x4 0x6) Dhoni had come up to the stumps after Samuels crashed Mohit through and over the covers. Samuels then tried to drive Mohit a third time but got a thin edge and Dhoni took a sharp catch behind the stumps. He throws the ball up with glee and jumps up and down. West Indies are 23/2 and we could be in for an early finish today. 1813 IST West Indies 15/1 after 5 overs (Powell 3, Samuels 0) Powell gets a life after Samuels turns down a sharp single when Dhawan fails to find Dhoni with the throw. Instead, of thwaking into the keeper’s gloves, the ball sails over Dhoni’s head. It isn’t even in the camera frame. Dhawan grins sheepishly afterwards. He knows that was awful. Oh, and that was a maiden from Bhuvi. 1808 IST West Indies 15/1 after 4 overs (Powell 3, Samuels 0) Both batsmen yet to find their timing on this pitch, which is somewhat two-paced. The larger question is whether any of the West Indian batsmen have the patience and the application needed to score on this surface. Going by the Test series and the first ODI, the answer would have to be no but there is always room for surprises in sport/ 1802 IST WICKET! Charles c & b Kumar 12 (9b 2x4 0x6) Charles drives on the up but hits the ball straight at Bhuvi, who manages on to hang on to the ball after it crashes into his stomach before crumpling to the ground in pain. That seems to have seriously winded him. West Indies 14/1 after 2.4 overs. 1759 IST West Indies 12/0 after 2 overs (Charles 10, Powell 2) Mohit Sharma has the other new nut and not Mohammad Shami. A good performance here and he could set himself up as India’s third seamer. Dhoni knows what he is about too, cause they both play for CSK. Meanwhile Charles edges one past the slips and the diving third man fielder. 1755 IST West Indies 6/0 after 1 over (Charles 5, Powell 1) And we are back as a Gayle-less West Indies set out to chase 289. Kieran Powell and Johnson Charles are openers. Bhuvi Kumar is the bowler with the new white cherry. Charles crashes Bhuvi through the covers to get the chase up and running. 1720 IST India 288/7 after 50 overs (Dhoni 51, Kumar 1) Holder to bowl the final over. Ashwin gets proceedings off to a good start with a lofted cover drive for four. After a couple of singles, Ashwin slogs a slower delivery over square leg for SIX more. WICKET! Ashwin c †Charles b Holder 19 (10b 2x4 1x6) Ashwin tries the reverse-sweeps but gloves the ball straight into the wicket-keeper’s hands. Bhuvi gets a single from the last ball. India make 62 from the last 5 overs. Dhoni finishes with 51 from 40 balls. West Indies need 289 to keep the series alive. 1714 IST India 275/6 after 49 overs (Dhoni 50, Ashwin 8) Some wild swings by Dhoni and Ashwin that miss everything as Rampaul varies his pace in the penultimate over. Perhaps carried away by his success, Rampaul makes the mistake of pitching one up too far though and Dhoni slams him high and handsome over long-off. The next ball is just plonked on a length and Dhoni says thank you with a second six to bring up his fifty. A good over became a terrible one with just two swings of Dhoni’s bat. 1708 IST India 261/6 after 48 overs (Dhoni 37, Ashwin 7) Ashwin brings up India’s 250 by clipping Holder to fine leg for four. Took that from offstump. Darren B then dives over the ball on the midwicket boundary to give Dhoni, and India, four more runs. Good over for India – 12 from it. 1700 IST WICKET! Jadeja b Rampaul 10 (20b 0x4 0x6) Jadeja’s troubled stay ends. Late on a back of a length delivery that cramped him for room and he lost his leg stump. India stumbling in the death overs. Now 240/6 after 46.3 overs 1655 IST India 238/5 after 46 overs (Dhoni 14, Jadeja 6) Dhoni gets plonked on the right wrist by the throw when he takes a sharp single. That would have stung. The batsmen settle for singles and twos until a low, legside full toss is helped over the fine leg boundary for SIX! 16:49 IST India 226/5 after 45 overs (Dhoni 13, Jadeja 3) Jadeja not picking Narine. One that turns back into the left-hander hits him on the gloves. Then the one that goes away beats him completely. Narine bowling too shot a length though. He is not bringing the batsmen forward and is giving them time to play him off the pitch. 16:47 IST India 226/5 after 44 overs (Dhoni 13, Jadeja 6) A Rampaul misfield at point gives India an extra-run but another tidy over from the West Indies. Apart from Kohli, the Windies have done a good job against the Indian batsmen today. 16:43 IST India 222/5 after 43 overs (Dhoni 13, Jadeja 3) Dhoni not picking Narine out of the hand. Hanging back and playing the ball off the pitch. Expect a big finishing kick though. Or at least an attempt at one. 16:40 IST India 219/5 after 42 overs (Dhoni 11, Jadeja 2) It had gone a bit flat for India until Dhoni plonked his front foot down the track and slapped Holder over long-off for a big six. That was brute force. Ten from the over. 16:36 IST India 209/5 after 41 overs (Dhoni 3, Jadeja 0) Narine follows up with a maiden to MS Dhoni. Don’t see that very often. India probably not getting to 300 now, but you never know.

16:32 IST WICKET! Kohli c Holder b Rampaul 99 (100b 9x4 0x6) SR: 99.00 Kohli doesn’t get his hundred. Rampaul bowls a bouncer and Kohli went for the hook with a man on the fine leg boundary. Holder dives forward to take a good catch inches off the ground. Kohli lets out a trademark swear word as he walks off. India 209/5 after 40 overs 16:26 IST India 207/4 after 39 overs (Kohli 98, Dhoni 2) Just one run from Narine’s over. India still starting at the possibility of score around 300. 16:19 IST WICKET! Raina c DJ Bravo b Rampaul 23 (24b 2x4 0x6) Nobody seems capable of sticking with Kohli today. Raina tries an ill-advised hoick off Rampaul and the outside edge is taken at extra-cover. He was aiming over midwicket. India 203/4 after 37.2 overs. 16:16 IST India 202/3 after 37 overs (Kohli 95, Raina 23) Narine trundles back in. A Kohli single takes India to 200. 16:1q IST India 199/3 after 36 overs (Kohli 93, Raina 22) Holder is back. Kohli is now scoring at a rate faster than a run-a-ball. It has been a seamless innings from unquestionably India’s best batsman at the moment (with due apologies to Rohit Sharma). This is an unusual innings from him though. He averages over 20 runs less when India bats first than when India chases. 16:06 IST India 194/3 after 35 overs (Kohli 89, Raina 21) Raina punches Dwayne B down the ground. Picked the slower delivery and slammed it to the long-off boundary. Also brings up the 50-partnership from 40 balls. Meanwhile Kohli pulls Bravo past Marlon Samuel’s half-hearted dive at midwicket for another four. These two teams look like they belong Virat Kohli fifty drives Indiain different leagues. Promotion and relgation for international cricket anyone? 16:01 IST India 184/3 after 34 overs (Kohli 84, Raina 16) Dropped! Kieran Powell puts down a sitter at short fine leg. Raina pulls a rank long hop from Lendl Simmons straight to Powell, who just has to let the ball fall into his hands. Except it spills out somehow. Disappointed looks all around the field. Both batsman have been given a life. Not something the Windies can afford. 15:55 IST India 179/3 after 33 overs (Kohli 82, Raina 13) Dwayne B gets us started again after the drinks break. According to Sidhu, diamonds are forever and so are the drinks. Except once I drink my drink, it doesn’t exist anymore so not sure what Sidhu is talking about there. Kohli isn’t bothered though. Flicks a legside shocker from Dwayne B to the fine leg boundary to move into the 80s. He is as close to a run machine as you can get in this format, especially at home. 15:49 IST India 171/3 after 32 overs (Kohli 76, Raina 11) Kohli wastes no time profiting from his second life. Permaul bowling some filth and Kohli pulls and cuts for consecutive boundaries. He has 76 from 78 balls so far and has looked like he is in second gear the whole time. Raina ends the over with a tickle to fine leg for the third boundary in the over. 15:45 IST India 156/3 after 31 overs (Kohli 66, Raina 6) Dropped! Dwayne B puts down a sharp caught and bowled chance. Kohli tries to turn a length delivery to the legside and is early on the shot. The ball loops back to Dwayne, who appears to reach late. He reaches out with his left hand to try and snare it but the ball hits him on the wrist and the chance is gone. 15:39 IST India 147/3 after 30 overs (Kohli 59, Raina 4) Permaul returns. The batsmen milk him for singles. These two need to stick around for about 10 overs or so now. 15:33 IST India 142/3 after 29 overs (Kohli 57, Raina 2) A chance for Raina to score some runs. He told the BCCI’s website that he and Yuvi switched places in the batting order because both had struggled to make an impact in the Australia series with Raina at 4 and Yuvi at 5. At the same time, Raina said he would prefer to bat at 4.

15:29 IST WICKET! Yuvraj Singh c Samuels b Sammy 28 (49b 3x4 1x6) Yuvraj tries to clobber Sammy over midwicket. It wasn’t quite short enough and he doesn’t time it at all. Mid-wicket says thank you. India 138 for 3 Just before that though, Kohli dabbed Sammy down to the third man boundary to bring up yet another half-century. 15:25 IST India 129/2 after 26 overs (Kohli 46, Yuvraj 28) Dwayne B has had enough of spin. Rampaul comes back. He focuses on the area around offstump. The batsman focus on singles.

15:20 IST India 126/2 after 26 overs (Kohli 44, Yuvraj 27) Yuvraj has decided attack is the best form of defence. Another sweep sends Permaul to the square leg boundary. A savage pull brings him just a single though, as the fielder puts in a timely dive. 15:17 IST India 119/2 after 25 overs (Kohli 42, Yuvraj 22) Yuvraj has enough of defending. Slams Narine long and hard over deep midwicket for the first six of the innings. 15:10 IST India 109/2 after 23 overs (Kohli 39, Yuvraj 15) Narine has been expensive so far. Kohli, at least, has had no problems picking him and playing him. Just one run off this over though. This innings has just been bubbling along so far. 15:07 IST India 108/2 after 22 overs (Kohli 38, Yuvraj 15) Kohli chips down the track to Permaul but gets just a single to long-on. Yuvraj concentrating mostly on defense. He is clearly intent on battling it out today. 15:04 IST India 105/2 after 21 overs (Kohli 36, Yuvraj 14) A wide brings up India’s 100. An inside edge from Kohli then runs past leg stump, the keeper and a diving Sammy and gets him four. Yuvi’s strike-rate at the moment is under 50. India’s run-rate is 5 an over though, so no problem with that at this stage 15:00 IST India 99/2 after 20 overs (Kohli 31, Yuvraj 14) Yuvi slog sweeps Permaul to the square leg boundary but he is struggling with his timing. Doesn’t look comfortable at all. Quite a contrast to Kohli, but then Kohli is operating on a different plane these days. 14:53 IST India 86/2 after 18 overs (Kohli 29, Yuvraj 4) Yuvi struggling against the left-arm spin of Permaul, which is a very strange sight. The last ball hits him in the midriff. 14:50 IST India 83/2 after 17 overs (Kohli 29, Yuvraj 2) The first Sunil Narine sighting with the ball. A slip and legslip in place. Kohli sneers and slog sweeps Narine to the deep midwicket boundary. That leads to a fielder being pushed back. Smart, aggressive cricket. 14:46 IST India 73/2 after 16 overs (Kohli 20, Yuvraj 1) Permaul keeps twirling away. Game drifting a bit now. Yuvraj walks away from the wicket and Permaul doesn’t realise and almost delivers the ball with the batsman half-way to square leg. Eventually, Yuvi gets off the mark with a single. Took him 9 balls to do it. 14:42 IST India 70/2 after 15 overs (Kohli 18, Yuvraj 0) Yuvraj is in at No 4. He has been moved up to try and find some form. Kohli tries to change his gloves in the middle of an over and the umpire rightfully says no. Naturally, Kohli has to have a chat with the umpire about it. 14:34 IST WICKET! Dhawan c DJ Bravo b Permaul 35 (37b 5x4 0x6) Dhawan is not happy. One ball after he plays a picture-perfect cover drive to Permaul, he tries to turn one gently to leg and the umpire rules he got an inside edge that went off his pad to first slip. The wicket came against the run of play. CORRECTION: Turns out the umpire had given out leg-before. He just took his time about it so it looked like it was giving him out caught. India 69 for 2 after 13.2 overs. 14:32 IST India 64/1 after 13 overs (Dhawan 31, Kohli 17) Singles are the order of the day. This is old-fashioned ODI cricket - rotating strike and running fast. 14:27 IST India 60/1 after 12 overs (Dhawan 29, Kohli 15) Permaul to try his luck with his left-arm turners. Dhawan eases him through the covers against the turn for a couple. Not much happening at the moment. 14:27 IST India 60/1 after 12 overs (Dhawan 29, Kohli 15) Permaul to try his luck with his left-arm turners. Dhawan eases him through the covers against the turn for a couple. Not much happening at the moment. 14:23 IST India 55/1 after 11 overs (Dhawan 26, Kohli 13) Dhawan brings up India’s 50 with a single to third man. Two balls later a thick edge flashes through the vacant slips for four. India are going along at 5 an over quite comfortably. Ominous signs building here for the West Indies.

14:18 IST India 48/1 after 10 overs (Dhawan 21, Kohli 11) Dhawan finds the boundary with another flowing cover drive. He can make it look effortless. The advantage of being left-handed. 14:13 IST India 41/1 after 9 overs (Dhawan 16, Kohli 9) Bravo and his military medium come on. He doesn’t threate the batsmen. They don’t threaten him. 14:08 IST India 38/1 after 8 overs (Dhawan 15, Kohli 7) Dhawan plays a stylish pull shot but only picks up a single as Dwayne Bravo has fielders in the right places. The West Indies bowlers have done a good job to this point. 14:04 IST India 34/1 after 7 overs (Dhawan 12, Kohli 6) Runs flowing freely. Rampaul pitches one up and Dhawan presents the full face of the bat to send the ball racing straight down the ground. All timing, no footwork. Kohli finds some gaps in the field to pick up a couple of twos. Ten from the over. 13:59 IST India 24/1 after 6 overs (Dhawan 7, Kohli 1) Kohli gets off the mark with a slash over the covers for a single. Both Holder and Rampaul bowling good lines to this point. Not a lot of room been given to the batsmen so far. 13:51 IST India 21/1 after 4 .5 overs (Dhawan 6, Kohli 0) A Rampaul full toss on legstump is gratefully turned away by Rohit to the midwicket boundary. Ball clearly slipped out of Rampaul’s hand. He has been bowling a good line just outside offstump and Rohit has been content to let the ball go. Just as I say that, Rohit tries to cut one that was too close for the shot and Sammy gleefully takes the catch in the slips. That is a big early strike for the visitors. Sharma c Sammy b Rampaul 12 (19b 3x4 0x6) Virat Kohli is the new man, so not really any respite for the West Indies. 13:47 IST India 17/0 after 4 overs (Rohit 8, Dhawan 6) Dhawan gets to 1000 runs in ODIs this year with a crackling cover drive. He was out of his crease and to the pitch of that full delivery from Holder in a flash. Holder follows that up with a very wide delivery trying to get Dhawan to chase one going across his body. Mixed start here for India so far. 13:43 IST India 11/0 after 3 overs (Rohit 8, Dhawan 2) Rampaul gets Rohit to chase a wide-ish delivery that moves away off the seam. That’s the most exciting thing to happen in the over. 13:39 IST India 9/0 after 2 overs (Rohit 8, Dhawan 1) Dhawan survives a run-out chance to get off the mark. Takes off late after waiting for the ball to get past Jason Holder and would have been short by a couple of feet if the ball had hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Rest of the over passes uneventfully. 13:35 IST India 8/0 after 1 over (Rohit 8, Dhawan 0) Ravi Rampaul takes the first new ball. Rohit gets India going with a back-foot punch past point for four. The next boundary is not quite as neat - an outside edge past slip that beats the diving third man fielder as well. 13:30 IST The players are coming out to the middle. Good chance of another 300-plus score for India. It is hot with clear skies in Vishkhapatnam. No sign of the rains that have lashed the city over the last few days, so hopefully we will get an uninterrupted game. 13:10 IST Here are the playing XIs: India XI: Rohit Sharma, Dhawan, Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Raina, Dhoni, Jadeja, Ashwin, Kumar, Shami, Mohit Sharma. West Indies XI: Powell, Charles, Samuels, Bravo, Simmons, Bravo, Sammy, Narine, Permaul, Holder, Rampaul. 13:00 IST West Indies have won the toss and will bowl first in Vishakhapatnam. India have included Mohit Sharma in place of Jaydev Unadkat. West Indies have brought in Kieran Powell for Gayle and Veerasammy Permaul has come in for Narsingh Deonarine. 12:55 IST Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second ODI between India and West Indies in Vishakhapatnam. West Indies will be desperately trying to regroup after another poor batting performance, while India will be confident of clinching the series with one game to go. Getty Images[/caption] The loss of Chris Gayle to injury is a psychological but Gayle struggled in the Tests and failed to score in the first ODI, so there isn’t much production to replace there. Still, it means one fewer experienced hand in the dressing room for a side that seems to lack cricketing sense. Preview A dominant India would look to seal the one-day series by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead against a struggling West Indies, who are proving to be a complete mismatch to the World champions, as the two teams square off in the second match here tomorrow. After a listless performance in the Test series, losing explosive opener Chris Gayle to an injury has added to the woes and worries of the Caribbean side, who now face a do-or-die situation to save the series. The West Indies were expected to do better in the short format but they have failed to put up a fight as their batsmen continue to struggle. The reversal of fortunes has eluded the visitors as India cantered to a six-wicket victory with 88 deliveries to spare to take a 1-0 lead in Kochi. The victory was soothing for the wounded Indian bowlers who were pulverised in the last ODI series against Australia as they could finally exert some pressure on the batting fraternity. Back after given a rest to heal his shoulder injury in the Test series, Ravindra Jadeja led the spin attack by taking three wickets to bowl the Windies out for a paltry 211. For a team that had chased down 350-plus totals thrice to win the ODI series against Australia not so long ago, it was a cakewalk as they cruised home by six wickets with 88 deliveries to spare. Indian trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan have been the force behind the batting as they have shown no target is safe. Man-of-the-Match Kohli struck 86 in the first ODI and in the process emulated Sir Viv Richards’s feat of 5,000 runs from 114 innings as his 133-run partnership with Rohit Sharma (72) set up the chase against the Windies.
