India vs West Indies, T20I at Kingston, Highlights and cricket result: Lewis powers Windies to a 9-wicket win
July 10, 2017, 01:16:57 (IST)
That brings us to the end of the Caribbean tour, with India returning victorious in the ODI series (3-1) and Windies maintaining their dominance in their favourite T20 format, by winning the one-off game by 9 wickets, thanks to some extra ordinary display of power hitting by Evin Lewis. His magnificent innings helped his side stream roll over India’s 190. Thank you for tuning in, hope to see you around. Goodbye from all of us here at Firstpost.

Carlos Brathwaite, Windies captain: Very, very happy. Yesterday we asked for the batters to go out and express themselves. I gave them the captain’s incentive, whoever goes and gets a fifty gets half my match fee. Thousands of people came out today and we wanted to put smiles on the faces of the fans and that’s what we come back to do. We spoke about wrestling back, we’ve seen in the IPL, so we know how good Bhuvneshwar Kumar is at the back end and we wanted him to bowl more in the first few overs and that’s a box ticked. Evin took the mantle over, so big kudos to him, he just played on and on and he scored a century back in Florida too. The expression that Lewis showed ably supported by Chris and Marlon latter on was fantastic. Excellent bowling by Williams, he has carried the good form from Pakistan to Afghanistan and here his figures do not reflect how good he bowled. But he got Kohli and Dhawan with the direct hit to get two new batters after the 6th over that really helped.

Evin Lewis is the Man of the Match for his 125 (62): Once you get a hundred against a team like India it is always good. It was a lot on my mind after five failures and I remembered that when I scored today, but I keep believing in myself. Ya he .I am not sure what it will do it to be, I am very thankful for it,  but I am very happy with my performance today and look to continue it further.
July 10, 2017, 00:51:08 (IST)
Virat Kohli, India captain: Ya, definiately, in the first innings we could have added 25-30 extra. We were 30 runs short. If you don’t grab your chance you don’t deserve to win. After the good start, we need one batsmen to get through, someone with a big 80-90. Dinesh batted well in the middle overs. All these games are good feeder to how guys react to different situations. West Indies have a set team and fixed squad. Well, very good, only one loss in ODI, one game in ODI series we lost , played the first game well as well. One T20 is anyone’s game, one match here doesn’t make a series in my opinion though. It was good tour, we always enjoy coming here, we won the Test series as well the last time and we go home very happy.

India run into a juggernaut called ~Chris Gayle~  Evin Lewis. He ended with an unbeaten 125 off just 62 balls with 12 humoungous sixes, most by any batsmen in T20Is. The only way India could makea  match out of 190 on a flat track against the T20 champions was by taking wickets, they dropped Lewis twice and then what followed was simply belligerent brutal hitting. The fact Windies finished with 9 wickets and 9 balls to spare, showed their domination in the shortest format.

What an extraordinary assault on India’s bowlers. Lewis has really smashed them with power and intent to all parts of the ground. Samuels too in great touch. Stroking the ball with great poise and calm. No way India can win from here. Lewis’ 10th six was massive. Went over the stadium roof and called for a change of ball. He’s the man for sure.

This Windies innings is all about Evin Lewis. The left handed opener is really belting the bowlers at will.He looks a different batsman with the T20 license to go after the bowling. Sixes and fours are flowing all his bat. His aggressive batting is keeping WI run rate at over 10  runs. Couple of quick wickets could still change scenario. But India need them now!

Preview: Riding high after clinching the One-Day International (ODI) series, the Indian team will look to repeat their performance against Windies in the one-off Twenty20 International (T20I) at Sabina Park here on Sunday. The visitors have retained the same squad which won them the ODI series 3-1 while the Carlos Brathwaite-led Windies have made significant changes for the match. [caption id=“attachment_3794259” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]File photo of Windies captain Carlos Brathwaite and India captain Virat Kohli. AFP File photo of Windies captain Carlos Brathwaite and India captain Virat Kohli. AFP[/caption] It will be a slightly more difficult task for the men-in-blue to outplay the hosts like they did in the ODI series because the Windies T20 team seems to be a more balanced side as compared to the ODI squad. Windies will rely heavily on their swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle who has joined the T20 squad to provide them a good start against a decent Indian bowling line-up. Brathwaite, all-rounder Kieron Pollard and Marlon Samuels are the other important inclusions for the side in the batting department, who will look to go hard at the Indian bowlers. The bowling department under the likes of experienced pacer Jerome Taylor and spinning duo Samuel Badree and Sunil Narine will look to put the brakes on the formidable Indian batting line-up. On the other hand, the Indian batting line with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh will look to help their side put up a big total keeping in mind the visitors strength in batting. Kohli may also make some changes in the playing XI with the kind of depth India has got in their squad. India’s bowling department will be duly tested against the hard-hitting Windies’ batsmen on show for hosts in the shorter format. Squads: India: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Dinesh Karthik. Windies: Carlos Brathwaite (captain), Samuel Badree, Ronsford Beaton, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Chadwick Walton (wicketkeeper), Kesrick Williams.
