What a match! After 40 overs, almost 500 runs and two centuries, we finally have time to take a breather. With 2 needed off the last ball, India were expected to successfully chase down the highest score ever. But West Indies reminded us that they are the World Champions as DJ Bravo gave just 6 runs off his last over, in a match where the average score per over was at least 12. India’s first match in USA was a belter and the crowd might have had a cracker of time. For India, it was the case of so close but yet so far. In the first innings, we witnessed pure power as Lewis scored his first T20I ton. However, in the second innings elegance and orthodox strokeplay was on the offer as Rahul relied on timing to get to his maiden century. He must be disappointed to see his knock end in a losing cause, but will also be proud of his maiden T20I ton. When whole of India relied on Virat Kohli to take the men in blue home this young Karnataka batsman decided to show the skills he possesses. Overall, this match promised one thing, it will inspire quite a few kids to take up cricket in USA.

Champion dance has started. Bravo gave only six runs of the last over. Rahul’s fantastic innings of 110 ends in agony. So close, but yet so far. What a game of cricket we had on offer in the US. The crowd has got nothing to complain about.

After 18 overs,India 222/3 ( Lokesh Rahul 94 , MS Dhoni (C) (W) 39)

Bravo begins the over with a ball on pads and Dhoni plays it towards third man for a four. But DJ backs by giving only three of the next two. What a yorker!! Rahul came down the pitch to attack only to fall flat on his face with his bat some metres away from him. Brilliant over in the context of the game. Only 9 of it.

After 17 overs,India 213/3 ( Lokesh Rahul 94 , MS Dhoni (C) (W) 31)

DHONI!!!! Hits his first six of the match. Surely, India needs those helicopter shots now that this chase looks quite possible. And one more towards mid-wicket. A huge one!!! 108 metres! India needs 40 of 20 balls, if they chase it, it will be the highest successful chase ever. Sensible play from the Indian captain, takes a single after hitting a six. And Rahul says thanks captain and hits another maximum towards mid-wicket.

Preview: Indian cricket team head coach Anil Kumble has said he is looking forward to working with limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni when the side takes on the West Indies in the first game of the two-match Twenty20 International series starting at Florida on Saturday. The team is coming into the shortest format of the game after a comfortable 2-0 win over the West Indies in the four-match Test series. Obviously we have played together over a long period of time and we had a chat yesterday and today as well. I’m really looking forward to working with him and the new set of boys like Jasprit Bumrah who has joined as well,” Kumble told reporters ahead of the T20 series in the United States. “I’ve worked with him in the Indian Premier League (IPL) … so it’s nice to be part of the India dressing room again.” Speaking on the shift in gears from Tests to T20s, the leg-spin legend said: “The West Indies have always been a tough side … they are the T20 world champions. About the shift that we need to make from Test cricket to T20, the West Indies players may not have to do that because some of them are coming straight from the CPL. “They are quality cricketers and have shown consistently how good they are and we had a tough match in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup as well. “In terms of the quality that we are going to encounter, we are aware of that. It’s going to be a challenge and I think the Indian team has done really well over the last six months as a T20 side as well so that’s something that we are looking forward to.” The former India skipper also praised the facilities at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium here, the venue of the two matches. “It’s a wonderful initiative and we are really looking forward to our matches here… it’s going to be a sell out. We know the US, the expats and the huge Indian diaspora who want quality cricket to come to the US,” the coach said. “We have played in the past in the West Indies and a lot of Indians come over from the US to watch us. So this is a great opportunity for all of them and I’m sure this is the start of a new beginning in the United States and I’m sure there will be a lot more of the Indian team in the US going forward,” Kumble said.
