India vs Sri Lanka: Virat Kohli is yet to be tested as captain, says former batsman Sourav Ganguly

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly believes that Virat Kohli has not been tested as captain of the side yet. The former left-handed batsman feels that Virat and Co must be judged on their performances in tough conditions like those in South Africa, Australia and England.

"Virat hasn't been tested yet. Sri Lanka is probably not the strongest Test side at the moment. For me, the fans, as well as for Virat Kohli himself, the yardstick will be how well his side performs in South Africa, Australia and England," the former India opener was quoted saying by India Today.

On Saturday, India registered a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka by 304 runs in the first Test at Galle. However, Ganguly feels that this Sri Lanka side is no match for the 'perfectly balanced' Indian side and, at Galle, they were second best in all departments of the game.

"Sri Lanka have a lot to think about on how to get batsmen like Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane out. If they don't bowl well they will have to field a lot in these hot and humid conditions," Ganguly added.

After taking over the reins of the team from MS Dhoni in 2014, Kohli has won 10 Tests and lost only two. Furthermore, from the 27 Test matches he has captained so far, India have registered 17 wins and seven draws. The 45-year-old was also impressed with Kohli's batting and praised him following his 17th Test century.

Having taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, India will aim to take an unassailable lead in the second Test, which starts on 3rd August at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
