India vs England, 4th Test: Keaton Jennings' unbeaten ton takes visitors to 196/2 at tea

England continued to build a steady foundation after electing to bat first on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Mumbai, going in at tea for a solid 196/2. Debutant Keaton Jennings, who is unbeaten on 103 is on crease with Moeen Ali who has played a sedate innings of 25 off 75 balls. AP[/caption] The partnership of 60 between the two have given England the upper hand in the second session of the day as well, after going in for 117/1 at lunch. While India managed to pull back with the wicket of Joe Root, the hosts couldn’t do much so far on the first day at the Wankhede Stadium. The highlight of the session was Jennings, as the 24-year-old brought up his maiden Test century with a boundary off a reverse sweep – a shot that has been an indication of just how impressive his debut performance has been. For a opener, playing his first game in the circumstances he has – with his team on the backfoot in the series, trailing and injury-hit – it was a commendable knock. The 24-year-old showed off a flurry of strokes as he took on Indian seamers and spinners with relative ease. The South African-born left-hander, who switched allegiance to England to further his international career, endured some nervy opening moments but grew in confidence to sit on 103 not out at the break. The one breakthrough for India in the session was the dismissal of No 3 Root was caught in the slips by Virat Kohli on 21, as Ravichandran Ashwin scalped his first wicket.  The delivery was a bit wide and Root attempted to drive but failed. The Indian captain moved the wrong way, before readjusting his crouch to pouch the catch.  But other than that, England have looked set for a good total.
