Preview: A confident India will be looking to extend their 1-0 lead against England in the third Test match of the current five-game series at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) IS Bindra Cricket Stadium. With first blood drawn by the hosts in the second Test at Visakhapatnam after drawing the first match in Rajkot, India will look to carry forward their performance to take an 2-0 lead. The build-up of the match has been shadowed by India skipper Virat Kohli’s alleged ball tampering controversy. [caption id=“attachment_3125226” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Virat Kohli and Alastair Cook. AP[/caption] A British tabloid recently published images of Kohli allegedly applying saliva to shine the ball after chewing on some sticky substance during the first Test at Rajkot. The International Cricket Council (ICC) didn’t take any action as the incident wasn’t reported by the match referee or the umpires. England also didn’t lodge any official complaints about the incident. Kohli has brushed aside the allegations, saying the controversy was created to shift the focus away from the match. “This is just to take focus away from series, to me newspaper article doesn’t matter over ICC’s decision,” Kohli told reporters here on Friday. “I don’t read newspapers, was told five days later that such things happened, I just laughed it off,” he added. With conditions at Mohali favouring batsmen, India will likely name an unchanged side for the match – except for keeper Parthiv Patel’s induction – while the visitors may make a few changes to their playing eleven. According to reports, England have confirmed that Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes will return to the side for the match. India have been served well by their batsmen in the series so far. Except for the opening pair of Lokesh Rahul and Murali Vijay, all batsmen have contributed to the team’s cause, displaying sparks of their individual brilliance. Regular wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha has been omitted from the India squad after developing a strain in his left thigh. It paved way for the inclusion of Parthiv Patel, who was called up after an eight-year gap. His batting abilities will give the hosts valuable support to their lower-order. India will ponder long and hard over their bowling combination. The key question is who will be picked to provide support to star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav gave a good account of themselves in the second Test. Yadav was picked ahead of leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who was impressive in the first Test. But changing a winning team remains unlikely for the home side. Medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has been brought into the team might as well get a chance to play as the Mohali pitch traditionally favours the fast bowlers. Despite the defeat, England have improved on their overall game, with batsmen scoring decent number of runs and bowlers picking up wickets. But they are likely to be without their premier pacer Stuart Broad, who was seen limping in the second Test. The visitors will need to produce a consistent performance over five days to square the series. The toss can play an important role in the outcome of the match as the side winning it will look to bat first and score big, adding pressure on the opposition. The squads: India: Virat Kohli (capt), KL Rahul, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Parthiv Patel (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Karun Nair, Jayant Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Umesh Yadav: I was just working on my line and length with Sanjay (Bangar) and Anil (Kumble). They just tell me to do what I need to do, they work on my bowling and I think I am getting better. I just wanted to bowl the right line and length.
(When asked about dropped catches) It happens in cricket, we take some fine catches at times, other times – we let simple ones go. OK for me, I am not greatly affected by it. We were trying to hit the right areas, my strength is to bowl inswingers, I just try and bowl consistent line and lengths. My plan is simple, matches, practice and focus on what I want to do, play to my areas of strength, I just want to keep learning, how to bowl in pressure situations.
Big blow for Eng losing Bairstow with half hour remaining. India hv bowled superbly to be in this position but fielded poorly must be said

After 84 overs,England 258/7 ( Chris Woakes 19, Adil Rashid 0)
Ashwin fires one down Bairstow’s leg-side, which eventually runs away to the boundary, to bring up the 250 for England. Earlier, Kohli decided against opting for the second new ball straight away, and has deployed Ashwin and Jayant in tandem at the moment.
Parthiv Patel doesn’t do much justice to his selection by dropping a chance that could have seen the back of Bairstow for 89 off Jayant’s bowling. The off-spinner though, eventually gets his victim by trapping the prolific wicketkeeper-batsman lbw. Bairstow’s review goes against him, as England lose their seventh wicket with 258 on board.
OUT! Jonny Bairstow lbw Jayant Yadav 89(177)
After 80 overs,England 241/6 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 81 , Chris Woakes 14)
The Indians use the DRS for the first time in this match after a huge lbw appeal by Jadeja against Bairstow is turned down by the umpire. With less than four overs left for the reviews to get reset, Kohli goes for the review instantly, only for hawkeye to show a big gap between the leg-stump and the ball.
Couple of close calls for a stumping and a run-out thereafter, with the hosts starting to exert pressure on Bairstow and Woakes now. Meanwhile, the second new ball will be available for India at the end of the 80th over, with the reviews getting reset.
After 76 overs,England 230/6 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 72 , Chris Woakes 13)
Umesh replaces Shami to come into the attack. Woakes drives Umesh past point for a four in the 76th over.
After 72 overs,England 221/6 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 71 , Chris Woakes 5)
Jadeja breaks the partnership by dismissing Buttler for 43. Woakes comes out at the centre to replace him. A huge appeal from Shami, but the umpire turns it down. India who haven’t used any reviews so far in the match opt against DRS. Good decision, even though the hawk-eye suggests that it would’ve hit the stumps, the umpire’s call would’ve stayed.
Buttler - another soft dismissal. India can rarely have seen such philanthropy from visitors to their country

After 67 overs,England 212/5 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 69 , Jos Buttler 42)
Jadeja and Shami have kept things tight for the initial five overs. Not a single boundary, 7 off the last 30 balls.

Umesh almost reproduces the exact ball that he got Bairstow in Vizag. Excellent delivery, Johnny B be lucky. #INDvENG

After 56 overs,England 182/5 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 62 , Jos Buttler 19)
Buttler guides Umesh’s delivery to third man for a four.Luck has not favoured Umesh at all this series. Despite bowling his heart out, he has not featured in the wickets column regularly. Buttler’s edge falls in between the first and the second slip and runs away for a boundary! A busy 9th over for Jayant, 7 off it and some drama. Buttler hits it straight to the offie and the bowler has a shy at the stumps. The decision goes upstairs but third umpire Dharmasena declares him not out.
If there’s one spell which deserves a wicket, it has to this from Umesh. Unplayable delivery to Bairstow really! The ball beats the batsman, stumps, Parthiv and runs away for four legbyes.
After 52 overs,England 157/5 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 58 , Jos Buttler 2)
Ashwin bowls a tossed up delivery to tempt Bairstow and the batsman goes for drive and in the process his foot comes out of the crease. Parthiv Patel who has had a good game so far, has not only missed a stumping but dropped a tough catch of Bairstow. Umesh Yadav comes into the attack, remember he dismissed Bairstow in the first innings of second Test and Kohli would be hoping for a similar ball from him. Buttler has been cautious so far in his innings.

Bairstow is the 8th England batsman to score 1300 or more Test runs in a year. Record is 1481 by Vaughan in 2002. #IndvsEng

After 46 overs,England 150/5 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 54 , Jos Buttler 0)
Just when it seemed like England have steadied their innings, Stokes falls. Poor shot selections have cost the visitors, same was the case with Stokes. Meanwhile, Bairstow scores another half-century with four. Team 150 also comes up in the 46th over. Stay tuned for for Ayaz Memon’s live analysis of the second session of play right here in this live blog at tea.
FIFTY! Bairstow brings up the milestone with a four to third man. It’s his 13th Test half-century and second of the series.
After 41 overs,England 138/4 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 44 , Ben Stokes 27)
Ashwin comes back into the attack but the runs have not dried up. So fast is the outfield that “If it goes past the inner circle, don’t bother chasing it,” has been the story so far. Bairstow and Stokes have already stitched together a 50-run stand.
After 35 overs,England 123/4 ( Jonny Bairstow (W) 34 , Ben Stokes 22)
India bring Jadeja into the attack after lunch. Jeez, just as drops, overthrows have followed the hosts in all the Tests. Jayant’s throw on the stumps hits Stokes on his arm and beats the fielder who was backing up. Wonder what our cricket expert Ayaz Memon has to say about India’s sloppy fielding in his live analysis right here in this live blog after tea.
Bairstow and Stokes, who have had a brilliant 2016 as a pair, are at the crease. As fluent as it gets, tossed up delivery by Jadeja and Bairstow strides forward and drives it through covers for a boundary. Unlucky! Stokes’ edged shot runs away for a four, but the southpaw follows it up with a flick to mid-on for another boundary. England have scored at a decent rate without taking any risks post lunch.
Lost the toss. Dropped a couple of catches. Still it's India's session....that too by a fair margin. Now, to build on it. #INDvENG
