India vs Bangladesh 2017: Ravichandran Ashwin becomes fastest to 250 Test wickets, eclipsing Dennis Lillee
Ashwin achieved the milestone in his 45th match by taking the final wicket of the innings - that of Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim.
Hyderabad: India's off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday became the fastest bowler to claim 250 Test wickets as Bangladesh were bowled out for 388 on day four of the one-off Test in Hyderabad.
Ashwin achieved the milestone in his 45th match by taking the final wicket of the innings – that of Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim for a fighting century in Hyderabad – eclipsing legendary Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee.
Lillee had completed the milestone in his 48th Test and Ashwin's two wickets in the Bangladesh first innings in the one-off Test here helped the Indian all-rounder reach the coveted landmark.
He is the sixth Indian bowler after Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434), Harbhajan Singh (417), Zaheer Khan (311), Bishan Singh Bedi (266) to reach to 250 Test wickets.
Ashwin has so far taken 57 wickets in the current home season. Till the end of the Bangladesh first innings in his 45th Test, Ashwin has 24 five-wicket hauls and seven 10-wicket hauls so far. He has also scored 1,816 runs, including four hundreds.
The hosts, who made 687 for six declared in their first innings, did not enforce the follow-on despite being 299 runs ahead and had reached one without loss at lunch.
Rahim led Bangladesh's resistance for nearly three sessions with his patient 127 before becoming the 250th Test victim of the 30-year-old Ashwin.
Ashwin, who made his debut against the West Indies in 2011, is currently the top-ranked Test bowler in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ratings.
The off-spiiner and fellow slow bowler Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets apiece while paceman Umesh Yadav took three for 84 for India, who are the world's top-ranked Test team.
The visitors, who started the day on 322 for six, lost overnight batsman Mehedi Hasan (51) in the first over.
Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled Hasan to end an 87-run partnership with Rahim.
Ninth-ranked Bangladesh are playing their first Test on Indian soil.
Goodall stood in 24 Test matches and 15 one-day internationals between 1965 and 1988.
The BCCI is expected to soon form a Cricket Advisory Committee to complete the selection process of the coaching staff.
Singh's arrest occurred after an activist in Hansi filed a complaint regarding a casteist slur used by the cricketer during an Instagram live event with Rohit Sharma earlier this year.
