The 2024 Paralympic Games are due to take place in Paris from August 28 to September 8, showcasing the 17th edition of the extravaganza with nearly 4,400 para-athletes participating.
India will send its largest contingent ever to this edition of the Games, with 84 athletes - up from the 54 who represented the country at the Tokyo Games.
India achieved its best-ever performance at a single Paralympics during Tokyo 2020, securing a total of 19 medals: five gold, eight silver, and six bronze, which placed them 24th in the overall medal tally.
Athletics was the standout sport, yielding eight medals, followed by shooting with five medals and badminton with four.
Notable achievements included Bhavina Patel, who made history as the first Indian table tennis player to win a Paralympic medal, and Harvinder Singh, who secured India’s inaugural Paralympic medal in archery.
Additionally, Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics, triumphing in the women’s 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1 event.
