Highlighting India’s participation at the upcoming special Olympics, filmmakers Monika Kathuria and Praful Tyagi have released a three-minute long short film on why we should treat people with special needs as our equals. The special Olympics are taking place from 25 July to 2 August in Los Angeles, California, USA — and this time, India is well represented. The video features Praveen Chaudhary, India’s national gold medallist in football and athletics and Snehil Nagpal who is autistic and India’s national champion at rollerskating. The directors try to show us through their film that though they may be different from us they are capable of doing the same things and sometimes doing those things even better than us. In the YouTube video description, Monika Kathuria describes the athletes as “Intellectually Disabled” — and not ‘special’. The video ends with the quote highlighting just that, “You might be able to out read me but I can outrun you." Buzzfeed reports that this short film has been selected for screening at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer games would feature competitions in aquatics, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, football, cycling, golf and other summer sports. Watch the video here:
