Kolkata: Bangladesh coach Chandika  said his batsmen didn't employ an "intelligent" approach during their run chase and also gave away too many runs to suffer an embarrasing defeat against New Zealand in the ICC World Twenty 20 in Kolkata on Saturday.

Bangladesh suffered their fourth defeat in the tournament, going down to New Zealand by 75 runs in the ICC World Twenty20 to bow out of the tournament.

"I'm very disappointed with the approach to the score.

The wicket was not that easy to bat and we gave away 20 runs extra," the former Sri Lankan opener said at their post-match news conference.

"It would have been a different story but we didn't approach intelligent enough to chase the score down.

"This was not a 140 wicket, it was slowing down after four-five overs. The ball was keeping low and had two-pace.

But we can't take anything away from New Zealand. They bowled according to the conditions," he said.

On their Independence Day, Bangladesh suffered the ignominy of being folded for their lowest ever T20I score of 70 in 15.4 overs chasing 146.

On the same day, left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahim put up yet another inspirational performance with a careerbest haul of 5 for 22.

Showering praise on Mustafizur, Hathurusingha said: "He is one of the intelligent cricketers. For him experience does not matter but it's how you adapt. He's very clever. He has got some variation using them very cleverly and gets on top of the batsmen.

"It was an outstanding effort. MS Dhoni has faced him several occasions but the way he bowled to Dhoni, he still managed to keep him down by mixing up his yorkers, quickers and cutters. It is all part of cricketing intelligence," he said pointing out his tidy last over in the India-Bangladesh match.

Summing up their campaign, the Sri Lankan said: "Today's game sums up our whole campaign. We were lackadaiscal in fielding, we had some brilliant moments with our bowling. For me it sums up our campaign in the World Twenty 20," he said as they made early elimination with four losses from as many matches in the Super 10.

Looking forward for Bangladesh cricket, he said: "Results may not reflect but otherwise if you look at the improvement we have made a lot of inroads. Our average scores in T20I has improved, I'm sure the results will come."
