How IPL teams fared in the Champions League T20

IPL teams have enjoyed great success in previous editions of Champions League. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians were crowned champions in 2010 and 2011 respectively, but Delhi Daredevils’ ouster from this year’s league means the run won’t continue. Their 22-run loss to Highveld Lions means that the South African team goes to the finals, where they will face either Sydney Sixers or Nashua Titans. Here’s a look at how the IPL teams fared in this edition of the Champions League T20: DELHI DAREDEVILS: They were the most successful IPL side in the CLT20 this year. They started off with a 52-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders, where Unmukt Chand scored 40 runs from 27 balls in his most memorable innings of the tournament. Their matches against Auckland Aces and Nashua Titans were washed out but they managed to beat Perth Scorchers by three-wickets to ensure they went to the semis unbeaten. Bowling-wise, Morne Morkel was their highest wicket-taker, taking six wickets with best figures of 3/19. KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS: The IPL champions started with a whimper— their back-to-back losses against Delhi Daredevils and Auckland Aces meant their 99-run win over Nashua Titans in the final group game counted for nothing. Top players: Brendon McCullum was their highest scorer, scoring a total of 76 runs with an average of 25.33. In comparison, under-fire Gautam Gambhir scored just 49 runs in three innings. L Balaji scalped seven wickets (avg of 19.28) but Sunil Narine had a better average (10.33) and took six wickets. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS: Chennai lost a couple of games before bouncing back with two wins but it was still not enough to make the semis. After losing against Sydney Sixers and Highveld Lions, CSK got the better of Mumbai Indians and Yorkshire Carnegie in an interesting group. But such was the form of the Sixers and Lions that even eight points were not enough to go through to the last four. Top players: Faf du Plessis scored 121 runs at an average of 30.25 to top the batting charts. Suresh Raina (116 runs) and MS Dhoni (108 runs) were the next best. Albie Morkel took five wickets in his three matches and was their best bowler. MUMBAI INDIANS: Mumbai Indians had the worst tournament out of all the IPL teams. They ended CLT20 with three losses and one of their matches was washed out. They lost to Highveld Lions by eight wickets, to CSK by six runs and to the Sydney Sixers by 12 runs. Only by virtue of a better net run-rate did they manage not being bottom of the group. Top players: Dinesh Karthik was the best batsmen of all the IPL teams. He scored 123 runs at an average of 41 with a highest score of 74. He also slammed 10 fours and seven sixes in his four innings. Sachin Tendulkar managed just 47 runs in his four innings. Mumbai’s bowling attack was probably the weakest among all teams. Of the total 15 wickets they took, Lasith Malinga got eight. Undoubtedly, he was their best bowler.
