Oh Haziq gets lucky with a rebound in the circle and has a free shot at goal from close range but Sreejesh makes himself big and saves! Brilliant that. 11 minutes left in Q3.

Malaysia’s coach says that his team will be slightly more cautious now.

10:37 PM (IST)

10:31 PM (IST)

10:29 PM (IST)

End of Q2. A longer break this time – and India will be wondering what went wrong after they took a 3rd minute lead. No telling attacks since – they make the byline inside the circle and the cutbacks are just not finding their targets. Malaysia meanwhile, have kept it simple and took advantage of two PCs.

10:23 PM (IST)

India get a PC of their own, but it’s not trapped and the shot doesn’t hit the boards. Everyone thought that one went in – which it did – but it’s not a goal. 5 minutes to go in Q2.

About seven minutes to go in Q1 and Rupinder Pal Singh has come on for India for the first time in this tournament since injuring his back in a warm-up match. Excellent news for India.

Five minutes gone in Q1 and Sardar triggers another attack with a precise pass to Akashdeep down the right channel – the cross in is intercepted though – India had two men waiting at the far post.

GOAL!! Barely three minutes gone and India have opened the scoring. Akashdeep fends off a challenge, shows great resilience on the byline and cuts it in for Satbir who is on hand to push it in. 1-0 to India.

And we’re off!

India shape up in a more compact 4-1-2-3 against Malaysia’s 4-4-2. India have won three of their last five games against Malaysia.

‘50-50’: That’s what Sardar Singh has to say about his side’s chances today.

The winner of this match will either face Belgium or France. It’s the hottest day since 1954 in Belgium today – 34 degrees Celsius.

Ramandeep Singh is joint-second scorer with four goals in the tournament, along with Australians Jamie Dwyer, Chris Ciriello and Kieran Govers. Blake Govers is on top with six goals.

Malaysia’s form has been sketchy, but they’ve shown glimpses of quality in the four matches they’ve played so far. They’ve lost 0-2 against Belgium and 2-3 against England – and have beaten China (3-2) and Ireland (4-2).

HWL: We should be able to set the pace of the match, says India coach Paul van Ass – Firstposthttp://www.firstpost.com

“We have got hammered when we did not play well, this must not be forgotten,” said coach Paul van Ass after the loss to Australia in the Pool A match. Van Ass has mentioned earlier that this tournament was a great way to experiment with tactics and lineups as he shapes up a team for the Olympics.

HWL: India eves suffer 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Netherlands in quarter-final – Firstposthttp://www.firstpost.com

The Indian team has already qualified for the HWL finals which will take place in India, and have also sealed a berth for Rio 2016. The women’s team however, failed to do so via the HWL. They would have to ensure a top six finish to earn another shot through continental playoffs.

Welcome to live coverage of the India vs Malaysia quarterfinal. India has been beaten only once in the tournament so far — a 6-2 drubbing from Australia — and will be wary of a Malaysian team which has been improving over the years.
