India vs Australia hockey preview: The India men’s hockey team will take on Australia in a five-match Test series as both teams look to finetune preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Every match of the series will take place at the Perth Hockey Stadium. Both India and Australia are placed in Group B for the men’s hockey competition at the Paris Olympics so this will act as a perfect dress rehearsal for what’s to come in France in a few months time.
Head-to-head favours Australia. Both teams have played each other 43 times, with Australia winning 28 games. India have only won eight matches against the Kookaburras with seven matches ending in draws.
As far as their recent encounters are concerned, India and Australia faced off in the FIH Pro League matches in Bhubaneshwar and Rourkela earlier this year. In the first match, Australia were down 2-4 at one stage but showed great resilience to beat India 6-4. Australians prevailed in the second game too, winning 3-0 in the penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 at full time.
Skipper Harmanpreet Singh and his drag flicks will be crucial to India’s chances against Australia. The India squad also features several youngsters like Vishnukant Singh, Mohammad Raheel and Bobby Singh Dhami, apart from the usual suspects like vice captain Hardik Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Vivek Sagar Prasad.
