India vs China, Asian Champions Trophy preview: Defending champions India will be eyeing a strong start to their Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 campaign when they face hosts China in Moqi on Sunday.
The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian team begin the tournament as strong favourites to retain their title, having won bronze in the Paris Olympics last month, making it the first time India had won back-to-back Olympic medals since 1972.
It will also be their first match since veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh’s retirement, marking the upcoming game the beginning of a new era.
India enjoy a solid record against China, having beaten their neighbours four out of five times in the Asian Champions Trophy including a 9-0 thrashing of the Chinese in 2016 the last time these two teams had met in the tournament.
India had defeated Malaysia 4-3 in the final in Chennai last year to win the tournament for the fourth time.
