South Korea’s narrow 4-3 victory over Malaysia earlier today has ensured India will not be playing the third-fourth place playoff on Sunday even if they lose today’s game – that is unless India loses by an extraordinary margin.

India and Korea currently are level on 4 points and have a goal difference of 3 and -2 respectively. And for them to miss out on the final, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side will have to lose by a margin of 0-6 or worse. Which is unlikely for a side that had beaten China 4-3 in the group stage and is a front-runner for the title.

Korea defeated Malaysia 4-3 in the penultimate match of the Super 4s stage on Saturday, thanks to goals from Kim Hyeonhong, Oh Seyong, Lee Jungjun and Kim Hyeonhong.

The victory takes Korea level with India on 4 points, although they remain second due to their inferior Goal Difference – which stands at -2 compared to India’s 3.
