The seventh edition of the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy is underway in Chennai, Tamil Nadu with hosts India hoping to collect their fourth title. India finished top of the Asian Champions Trophy standings with four wins and a draw. They secured wins over China, Malaysia, South Korea and arch-rivals Pakistan while drawing against Japan. Despite losing to India, Malaysia finished in the second spot after wins over Pakistan (3-1) , China (5-1), Japan (3-1) and South Korea (1-0). South Korea and Japan progressed to the semi-finals. Pakistan and China occupied the fifth and sixth place to not move ahead. In the semi-finals, India and Malaysia beat Japan and Korea respectively. This pit India and Malaysia in the title clash which was won by the hosts India for their record fourth trophy. In the third-fourth place playoff match earlier, Japan beat Korea 5-3. The tournament features six of the top-ranked sides in the continent playing one another on a round-robin basis. The two bottom-ranked teams at the end of the group stage battle it out in a fifth-sixth place playoff while the remaining sides progress to the semi-finals, which will take place on 11 August.
