Highlights IPL 2017, MI vs DD in Mumbai, cricket scores and updates: Mumbai Indians win by 14 runs

That’s it from us on our coverage of the 25th match of the ongoing tournament, with the Mumbai Indians pulling off yet another victory despite posting a total as low as 142, keeping their fortess intact as a result!

Do tune in tomorrow for the second double-header! While Gujarat Lions take on Kings XI Punjab in the first match, the action shifts to the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where the Knight Riders take on the struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore.

For now, we bid you good night!

Mitchell McClenaghan is the Man of the Match for his outstanding figures of 3/24 from four overs.

11:59 PM (IST)

Another fine win for Mumbai. They are on a roll now. Didn’t get a big score, in fact it was under par. But the way they defended the paltry total speaks volumes of their character. This is their sixth win on the trot now and are looking invincible. A great fight by the South African duo of Morris and Rabada, but the bowlers did the job for MI in the end. And the Wankhede continues to be MI’s fortress.

11:48 PM (IST)

After 20 overs,Delhi Daredevils 128/7 ( Chris Morris 52 , Pat Cummins 4)

Right then. Hardik Pandya to bowl the final over. Leg bye in the first ball, after the ball deflects off Cummins’ shoulder towards short third man. Wide in the second ball, with Hardik clearly under pressure! FOUR! Full and wide again, and Morris slices this over backward point! Superb save by Krunal at deep point, though Morris gets to his half-century with a double. Just a single is all that Morris can get in the fourth delivery — a superb one by Hardik, pitching it up and sending it to wide mid-off. Dot off the fifth ball! Just one run off the last ball, and Mumbai successfully defend a total as low as 142!

Mumbai Indians defeat Delhi Daredevils by 14 runs!

11:46 PM (IST)

Chris Morris becomes the second player to score a fifty batting at No 8 in IPL after Harbhajan Singh.

11:45 PM (IST)

FIFTY for Chris Morris! And he gets there with a double in the third ball of the final over!

11:43 PM (IST)

Bumrah gets rid of Rabada then with a peach of a delivery. A brilliant partnership ends. Well fought! The scales tilt more in Mumbai’s favour.

11:42 PM (IST)

Highest partnerships for 7th wicket in IPL:
100 – Jagadeesha Suchith/Harbhajan Singh v KXIP,Wankhede, 2015

91 – Kagiso Rabada/Chris Morris v MI, Wankhede, 2017

11:40 PM (IST)

After 19 overs,Delhi Daredevils 118/7 ( Chris Morris 45 , Pat Cummins 3)

Bumrah to bowl the crucial 19th over. Morris enjoys some luck in the second ball of the over, chipping it over to vacant mid-off region. What a delivery by Bumrah in the third ball, bowling a slower one that misses both Rabada’s bat as well as the off-stump. Bumrah doesn’t miss the leg-stump in the next ball, bowling another slower one that Rabada once again misses. New man Cummins walks out to bat, and gets a couple off the first ball, and he gets a single off the last ball to retain strike for the final over.

Delhi need 25 off 6 balls.

11:38 PM (IST)

BOWLED EM! Bumrah it is who gets the crucial wicket of Rabada, and breaks the 91-run stand! Second-consecutive slower ball, and this time the ball hits the base of Rabada’s leg stump! DD 115/7

Kagiso Rabada b Bumrah 44(39)

11:35 PM (IST)

Jasprit Bumrah has been brought into the attack as we approach the closing stage of this enthralling tie. Wankhede is loving every bit of it. Harbhajan is having a good time with the fans near the fence.

11:34 PM (IST)

After 18 overs,Delhi Daredevils 113/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 43 , Chris Morris 44)

McClenaghan into his final over. FOUR! Top-edge off Morris’ bat, with McClenaghan pitching it short this time, runs away to the vacant third-man boundary. Big shout for a caught behind in the penultimate ball, and it is turned down by the umpire, with the wicketkeeper himself not showing too much interest. SIX! Morris keeps Delhi in the hunt with a majestic strike towards wide long-on, smashing a short ball outside off!

Delhi need 30 from 12 balls!

11:30 PM (IST)

After 17 overs,Delhi Daredevils 101/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 42 , Chris Morris 33)

Bumrah back into the attack, and starts off with a yorker outside off. The duo bring up the team 100 in this over by exchanging singles. Good, tight over by Bumrah, with just four coming off it! Fantastic variations by the Indian pacer, mixing his yorkers with a couple of full deliveries.

Delhi need 42 from 18 balls.

11:26 PM (IST)

A fine effort at the boundary by Pollard, but his foot had touched the ropes. Four given. Pollard looks incredulous. Meanwhile a few ‘Delhi, Delhi’ chants attract a few glares from the Mumbai crowd. This is going to be another last over finish, one feels.

11:25 PM (IST)

After 16 overs,Delhi Daredevils 97/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 40 , Chris Morris 31)

McClenaghan returns in the 16th over of the innings, and Morris nearly gets run-out at the non-striker’s end while setting off for a quick single. Morris faces a bouncer from McClenaghan, and top-edges it to the vacant short square-leg region. Six off the over, with McClenaghan keeping it tight in his third over.

Delhi need 46 off 24 balls.

11:20 PM (IST)

After 15 overs,Delhi Daredevils 91/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 38 , Chris Morris 28)

Krunal Pandya introduced into the attack in the 15th over. Powerfully swept away by Morris in the second ball of the over, though it is only a single. He hammers the fourth ball powerfully towards the extra-cover boundary, where Pollard pulls off an athletic stop but fails to prevent the boundary with his foot touching the rope. Eight off the over.

Delhi need 52 to win from 30 balls.

11:16 PM (IST)

After 14 overs,Delhi Daredevils 83/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 36 , Chris Morris 22)

Harbhajan Singh into his final over. Morris and Rabada rotate the strike between themselves in this over, patting the ball to all parts of the ground. Five off this over, with the two Delhi batsmen fairly settled at the centre right now.

Delhi need 60 off the last 36 balls.

11:15 PM (IST)

And that four brings up a fifty-run partnership between Rabada and Morris. Both the all-rounders showed great composure and have managed to put up a brilliant fight. Will the match go down the wire?

11:15 PM (IST)

Chal Kagiso!’ shout some of the Delhi fans in the crowd. ‘Bhajji, Bhajji,’ retort the Mumbai supporters as the wily off spinner has Rabada in a spot of bother. This is Mumbai’s game to lose now.

11:10 PM (IST)

After 13 overs,Delhi Daredevils 78/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 33 , Chris Morris 20)

Johnson returns to the attack in the 13th over, with Mumbai now looking to break the stand. Morris tries smashing the second ball down the ground, though Rabada comes in the way, and cops a blow. FOUR! Morris brings up the 50-stand in the next delivery with a powerful cut! Nine off the over, with hope starting to return to the Delhi dugout. And the batting side opts for the timeout now.

Delhi need 65 to win from 42 balls.

11:05 PM (IST)

After 12 overs,Delhi Daredevils 69/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 32 , Chris Morris 13)

Harbhajan Singh into his third over. Appeal for lbw in the third ball of the over, though Ravi turns it down in yet another fine decision by umpire S Ravi, as the ball appeared to be missing leg. Appeal for stumping by keeper Parthiv next ball, though the umpire doesn’t go upstairs. Good over, with just two coming off it.

Delhi ened 74 to win from 48 balls.

11:01 PM (IST)

After 11 overs,Delhi Daredevils 67/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 31 , Chris Morris 12)

Bumrah into the attack in the 11th over. FOUR! Rabada is bringing back to their feet, hammering it towards wide mid-off. Nearly chops the next ball onto his stumps, with the ball running away to the fine-leg boundary. 10 off the over, with 33 coming off the last 3. The partnership between the two South Africans is worth 43 at the moment.

Delhi need 76 to win from 54 balls.

10:58 PM (IST)

10:57 PM (IST)

After 10 overs,Delhi Daredevils 57/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 22 , Chris Morris 11)

Harbhajan into the attack in the first over after the timeout. FOUR! Reverse-swept away by Morris, hammering it away towards backward square-leg. SIX! Now Rabada comes down the ground and brings up the team 50 with a slog down the ground! Good over for Delhi, with 13 coming off it!

Delhi need 86 to win from 60 balls.

10:53 PM (IST)

10:51 PM (IST)

After 9 overs,Delhi Daredevils 44/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 15 , Chris Morris 5)

Hardik into his second over. Rabada hammers the third ball of the over down the ground, with Krunal saving a couple of runs by running down the ground. FOUR! Smoked down the ground by KG! And it was hit with a straight bat! Both him, as well as Morris, are capable of a few lusty blows, and are Delhi’s last hope at the moment. Meanwhile, Morris is starting to struggle at the moment, and it looks like he is having hamstring problems right now. The umpire signals the timeout at the end of the over.

Delhi need 99 to win from 66 balls.

10:49 PM (IST)

24/6… that’s a point of no return in T20 cricket. Shocking ineptitude from DD batting lineup.

10:48 PM (IST)

A huge cheer for Hardik Pandya as he walked to his position near the straight boundary and Hardik acknowledges the cheer, making a bowing down gesture to the Wankhede crowd.

10:47 PM (IST)

Another one bites the dust and Hardik Pandya celebrates like Imran Tahir. Karun Nair departs as Delhi are 24/6 in the seventh over.

10:46 PM (IST)

After 8 overs,Delhi Daredevils 34/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 8 , Chris Morris 3)

Harbhajan into the attack, and for a change, the Daredevils don’t lose a wicket in an over. Rabada ends the over with a boundary, getting a thick edge that carries over the slip.

Delhi need 109 to win from 72 balls.

10:44 PM (IST)

Lowest scores at the fall of sixth wicket in IPL:

11 – KTK v DC, Kochi, 2011
24 – DD v MI, Mumbai, 2017*
28 – RCB v RR, Abu Dhabi, 2014

10:44 PM (IST)

After 7 overs,Delhi Daredevils 28/6 ( Kagiso Rabada 3 , Chris Morris 2)

Hardik Pandya into the attack in the first over after powerplay, and walks away after giving away just five runs, and grabbing the wicket of Nair, who chops a back-of-length ball onto his off-stump! Chris Morris joins fellow South African Rabada at the centre right now.

Delhi need 115 to win from 78 balls.

10:42 PM (IST)

What a night this has been for the home side. Quick stat: Last 17 balls, 3 runs, 3 wickets.

10:41 PM (IST)

‘Ek wicket aur le bhai,’ urges a Mumbai fan. ‘Delhi aaj 60 mein all out,’ predicts another. Mumbai have the Daredevils by the scruff of the neck now. And with Rishabh Pant departing now, it looks terribly grim for Delhi. MI proving again that the Wankhede is their fortress.

10:41 PM (IST)

OUT! Now Karun Nair chops a rising delivery outside off onto his off-stump! And now Hardik Pandya strikes in his very first over! This innings is turning out to be a joke right now! DD 24/6

Karun Nair b Hardik 5(15)

10:39 PM (IST)

After 6 overs,Delhi Daredevils 23/5 ( Karun Nair 5 , Kagiso Rabada 1)

Bumrah into the attack in the final over of powerplay, and gets Pant out in the third ball of the over with a rising delivery outside off that he meekly guides to Harbhajan in the slips. The Mumbai pacer later greets Rabada with a vicious bouncer that pings him on the helmet. Just two off the over, and Delhi are off to a forgettable start in their powerplay.

Delhi need 120 to win from 84 balls.

10:38 PM (IST)

21 is the lowest score at which Delhi Daredevils have lost their first five wickets in an IPL match. The previous lowest was 43 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata in 2008.

10:35 PM (IST)

Jeetega bhai jeetega Mumbai jeetega’ shouts the Wankhede crowd as another one goes down. Delhi in deep, deep trouble!

10:34 PM (IST)

OUT! Now the hard-hitting youngster Pant makes his way back to the dugout, edging the Bumrah delivery to Harbhajan in the slips. DD are reeling at 21/5

Rishabh Pant c Harbhajan b Bumrah 0(3)

10:32 PM (IST)

Delhi Daredevils losing first four wickets under 25 runs in IPL:

4/7 v Mumbai Indians,Wankhede,2011
4/21 v Mumbai Indians,Wankhede,2017*
4/24 v Chennai Super Kings,Chepauk,2012

10:31 PM (IST)

After 5 overs,Delhi Daredevils 21/4 ( Karun Nair 5 , Rishabh Pant (W) 0)

Johnson bowls from the other end, and maintains the vice-like grip on the two new batsmen at the crease, getting the first maiden of the innings. Delhi struggling at the moment, and need a partnership like that of Pollard-Krunal in their successful chase against RCB.

Delhi need 122 to win from 90 balls.

10:27 PM (IST)

Brilliant spell from McClenaghan…. DD’s nightmares come true in a 140-odd chase.

10:27 PM (IST)

Unbelievable scenes at the Wankhede as Shreyas Iyer departs nicking a short one down the leg side. McClenaghan gets his first wicket.

10:27 PM (IST)

After 4 overs,Delhi Daredevils 21/4 ( Karun Nair 5 , )

McClenaghan into his second over. Iyer is dismissed in the third ball of the over as Delhi sink further, losing their third wicket with 20 on board! Strikes again in the last ball of the over, this time trapping Anderson lbw in what apppeared to be a dubious lbw decision. Two wickets inside an over, and he has tore the Delhi top-order apart with three wickets!

10:25 PM (IST)

OUT! Second wicket for McClenaghan in this over, and he traps Anderson lbw! Looked as if it was missing the stumps, though hawk-eye shows the ball to be crashing between middle and leg. DD 21/4

Corey Anderson lbw McClenaghan 0(3)

10:22 PM (IST)

The Wankhede is cheering Mumbai’s every move now as Mumbai have mounted a strong defence of their paltry total. Mitchell Johnson is bowling with heart and good pace.

10:21 PM (IST)

OUT! Now it is Karun Nair’s turn to walk back to the dugout after Iyer gets a faint edge while looking to guide the short ball down towards fine-leg! DD 20/3

Shreyas Iyer c Parthiv b McClenaghan 6(7)

10:19 PM (IST)

After 3 overs,Delhi Daredevils 19/2 ( Karun Nair 4 , Shreyas Iyer 6)

Johnson continues from the other end, with Delhi already on the backfoot at the start of the innings. Appeal for a catch in the penultimate ball of the over, though the bowler himself is disinterested. Iyer tucks the last ball towards short fine, where a fumble by Krunal allows Iyer to come back for a second.

10:18 PM (IST)

It has been a night of mixups while running between the wickets. Aditya Tare departs. Delhi Daredevils will have to play smartly. And another one goes down now as Sanju Samson walks back for a meagre 1. Wankhede erupts!

10:14 PM (IST)

After 2 overs,Delhi Daredevils 14/2 ( Karun Nair 1 , Shreyas Iyer 4)

McClenaghan bowls from the other end, and he entices Samson into a drive down the ground that ends up in the palms of Rohit Sharma standing at wide mid-off. Shreyas Iyer, who joins Karun Nair at the crease, tickles the fifth ball down the ground for a four. Five off the over along with a wicket.

10:13 PM (IST)

10:12 PM (IST)

OUT! What a start Mumbai are off to! Soft dismissal for Samson as he pushes a length delivery from McClenaghan straight to Rohit at extra-cover! DD 10/2

Sanju Samson c Rohit b McClenaghan 9(6)

10:11 PM (IST)

After 1 overs,Delhi Daredevils 9/1 ( Sanju Samson 9, Karun Nair 0)

What an opening over! Johnson, playing his first game of the tournament, concedes consecutive boundaries. However, brilliant fielding by Hardik ensured Tare’s run-out for a golden duck! Nine off the first over.

10:07 PM (IST)

Harbhajan Singh’s economy rate in powerplay overs in this year’s IPL is 4.33 but in T20 cricket, he has conceded 74 runs from 54 balls against DD opener Sanju Samson without dismissing him even once.
Will Harbhajan Singh come in the powerplay today?

10:07 PM (IST)

OUT! And now we have a terrific run-out in the second innings as well! Tare tried setting off for a quick single, and Hardik pulled off a terrific piece of fielding running in from cover to give Mumbai the exact start that they needed! DD 1/1

Aditya Tare run out 0(1)

10:04 PM (IST)

Right then. Johnson to bowl the first over. Samson and Tare open the innings for Delhi.

A below under par from Mumbai, you would have to say. Delhi have done well to restrict the home team though. Rabada and Cummins bowled with a lot of zest, but the pick of the bowlers was Amit Mishra with figures of 4-1-18-2. Would have to favour Delhi here.

Stellar bowling performance from DD after the disappointment in Hyderabad. Amit Mishra showing finally why he is the most successful spinner in IPL history. And the bowlers… perhaps the best pace bowling display, and not only in this season. Arguably, the best overall (pace+spin) bowling performance by any team in this IPL season. DD’s bowlers have responded brilliantly after defeats in their last two matches. Now for the batsmen to not mess this up.

139 is the lowest total defended by Mumbai Indians at Wankhede in IPL. They defended that total against Chennai Super Kings in 2013.

After 20 overs,Mumbai Indians 142/8 ( Mitchell McClenaghan 1 , Mitchell Johnson 7)

Morris to bowl the final over. Krunal and new batsman McClenaghan collect a couple of singles in the first. That is before Pandya runs himself out while coming back for a risky second run. Johnson walks out to bat, and gets a Chinese cut in the first ball to guide the ball past his leg-stump towards fine-leg. Dot off the fifth ball. Top-edge by Johnson in the final ball of the over, and Rabada puts the catch down at midwicket to allow Johnson and McClenaghan to get three runs.

Mumbai Indians set a 143-run target for Delhi Daredevils.

Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins have bowled pretty well to contain MI’s batsmen. 150 looks a bit difficult here even as ‘We want sixer, we want sixer’ echoes at Wankhede.

OUT! More run-outs in the closing stages of the Mumbai innings, as Hardik Pandya is now run-out while coming back for a second. Sharp throw by Nair from the midwicket, and Pant breaks the stumps on time! MI 135/8

Hardik Pandya run out 24(23)

After 19 overs,Mumbai Indians 132/7 ( Hardik Pandya 22 , )

Rabada starts his final over with a 146 kmph yorker, that is also a front-foot no-ball. SIX! Smacked away over the midwicket boundary by Hardik! He only gets a single off the next ball after guiding a yorker towards backward point. The delivery to Bhajji measures 148 clicks, as he guides this one down the ground for a single.

OUT! Krunal sets off for a quick single in the last ball of the penultimate over, and Rabada kicks the ball onto the striker’s stumps, with Harbhajan’s bat still in the air despite crossing the crease! MI 132/7 after 19 overs

Harbhajan Singh run out 2(2)

Kieron Pollard’s strike rate of 89.66 in today’s match is his second lowest in an IPL match among matches in which he has faced at least 25 balls. His lowest is 86.84 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede in 2015.

Pollard departs at a crucial time. That could make the difference between a 150 and a 175 with little under three overs remaining. Harbhajan comes in at the fall of that wicket

After 18 overs,Mumbai Indians 123/6 ( Hardik Pandya 15 , Harbhajan Singh 1)

Cummins into the attack in the 18th over, and he dismisses Pollard straightaway! That could very well save Delhi 20-odd crucial runs! Pollard looked to go big down the ground, but got the bottom-edge while looking to slog an off-cutter wide outside off. Harbhajan walks out to bat, and gets off the mark in the first ball that they face. Single off the last ball, which brings an end to a terrific over by Cummins, giving away just three off it while collecting an important wicket. Finishes with figures of 2/20 from his quota.

OUT! Just when Pollard was looking to shift gears, he ends up miscuing a back-of-length off-cutter to get caught by Samson down the ground! MI 120/6

Kieron Pollard c Samson b Cummins 26(29)

Notably, Pat Cummins has bowled short length deliveries to Kieron Pollard. That’s a huge gamble knowing that the big man can smash those out of the park.

After 17 overs,Mumbai Indians 120/5 ( Kieron Pollard 26 , Hardik Pandya 13)

SIX! Morris into the attack now, and Hardik is starting to get into his groove! Slogs the first ball towards the midwicket boundary, and manages to clear the rope despite not getting the middle of his bat. Yorker to Pollard in the fourth ball, and he can only steer it down the ground for a single. 10 off the over.

After 16 overs,Mumbai Indians 110/5 ( Kieron Pollard 24 , Hardik Pandya 5)

Cummins into the attack with five overs to go. FOUR! Pollard pulls the first ball towards the leg side, with Morris misjudging the trajectory of the ball’s path, and allows it to run away past the boundary. Single off the last ball, with Hardik retaining the strike for himself by guiding it towards backward point. Eight off the over.

So finally, the moment we all were waiting for. The ‘WENGER OUT’ banner strikes again, this time at Wankhede. A bit off topic, but looks like they have had enough of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. Time to leave buddy!

After 15 overs,Mumbai Indians 102/5 ( Kieron Pollard 19 , Hardik Pandya 3)

Mishra into his final over. FOUR! Pollard has decided he has waited enough, and hammers the second ball of the over towards long-off. The 100 comes up in the fourth ball with a single by Pollard. Single to end the over, with eight coming off it. Mishra ends with fantastic figures of 4-1-18-2.

After 14 overs,Mumbai Indians 94/5 ( Kieron Pollard 13 , Hardik Pandya 1)

Zak into his final over. FOUR! Bouncer from Zaheer to start the over off, and he gets a top-edge over to the long-stop boundary. Pollard ends the over with the second boundary of the over, hammering it towards long-off this time. 10 off the over. The umpire calls for the timeout.

DD getting regular wickets and not letting Mumbai get away. But coach/mentor Rahul Dravid is right to not get ahead as yet. It can change quickly at the Wankhede. DD will not want to chase anything more than 140 here.

Krunal Pandya caught behind off Amit Mishra. Mumbai in a spot of bother at five down for 84 in the 13th over.  Hardik Pandya walks in and a lot would depend upon this partnership. Mumbai would need at least 170 on this Wankhede wicket to be competitive,  but it looks bit of a far cry now.

After 13 overs,Mumbai Indians 84/5 ( Kieron Pollard 4 , Hardik Pandya 0)

Mishra into his third over, and starts off with a wide. Follows it up with a ripper that beats Pollard neck-and-crop. Unleashes a wrong ‘un in the fourth ball, getting an outside edge off Krunal’s bat while the latter looked to guide it towards third man. The Delhi attack has done a fantastic job so far, and could very well look towards restricting them within the 150-run mark.

OUT! Mishra gets the fifth wicket of the innings, and Krunal departs after failing to pick the googly, and getting an edge to the keeper while trying to run it down to third man! MI 84/5

Krunal Pandya c Pant b Mishra 17(16)

A cracking shot through extra cover from Krunal Pandya for a boundary. ‘KRUNAILED’ says the big screen. Quite innovative that.

And a loud cheer for Rahul ‘The Wall’ Dravid as his face flashes on the big screen while he was having a brief chat with Mike Hussey near the boundary.

After 12 overs,Mumbai Indians 82/4 ( Kieron Pollard 3 , Krunal Pandya 17)

Zak returns to the attack in the 12th over, and another wicket at this stage could very well spell doom for the hosts. Run-out appeal in the first ball of the over ollowing a direct hit from Cummins, though Pollard got his bat back inside on time. FOUR Width offered to Krunal in the second ball, and he creams it though the extra-cover region. Superb yorker in the third ball, though Krunal manages to collect a double. Eight off the over. MI’s run-rate in the meantime has dropped below 7.

The home team is struggling, but there’s a Mexican wave in the stands.

A fan recalls that around the time of the toss, Wankhede was on its toes chanting ‘Dhoni Dhoni’.

A collective ‘ooohh’ around the stadium as Krunal plays and misses off Cummins. “Na munna na,” says a spectator. The comments are getting really colourful. But what comes right across is the faith and love the MI fans have for Krunal. The Wankhede has a Mexican wave going and we happily join in. Wonderful atmosphere this!

After 11 overs,Mumbai Indians 74/4 ( Kieron Pollard 2 , Krunal Pandya 10)

Rabada back into the attack, with Mumbai struggling at the half-way mark in their innings. Three runs collected in the third ball of the over. Krunal is greeted with a vicious bouncer in the fourth delivery outside off, before guiding another short ball aimed at his ribs towards long-leg. Six off the over, with the hosts desperately looking for a launch at this stage.

After 10 overs,Mumbai Indians 68/4 ( Kieron Pollard 1 , Krunal Pandya 5)

Cummins into his second over, and appeals for a catch in the third ball of the over after Krunal, the new batsman tries to guide it towards third man. The umpire turns it down though. Wide called for height in the final ball of the delivery, with Pollard retaining strike for the next over with a single off the last ball.

Had a little conversation with a fan and he was kind of happy that Rohit was walking back as the ‘stars’ are yet to bat for the home side. ‘Arey woh log players thodi na hain, stars hain’.

After 9 overs,Mumbai Indians 61/4 ( Kieron Pollard 1 , Krunal Pandya 0)

Mishra is intorduced into the attack, and bowls another superb over by sending MI skipper Rohit Sharma back to the dugout. Rohit’s dilemma against leg-spinners continues, having been dismissed by the likes of Tahir, Badree, Rashid in the past matches. Just one off the over, with Mumbai under some serious pressure right now. Pollard visibly struggling against spin right now.

Mumbai in trouble? I ask a spectator. ‘Arre koi nahi, abhi toh hamare do Gujju bhai baaki hai,’ he tells me. A bit of a dampener for Mumbai as Rohit gets out. It is strategic timeout and the crowd  sways to ‘Tu mera hero

Despite Rana’s wicket, the Mumbai crowd hasn’t lost faith as yet. Kieron Pollard will have to deliver now with skipper Rohit on the other side.

Nemeses of Rohit Sharma in IPL:
6 – R Vinay Kumar
5 – DJ Bravo, Sunil Narine, AMIT MISHRA*
4 – Dhawal Kulkarni, Siddharth Trivedi

OUT! Mishra into his second over, and he strikes first ball! Rohit looks to clear the leg side, but an excellent field placement by Zaheer ensures he holes out to Cummins at the backward square-leg boundary. MI falling apart right now, crumbling to 60/4 in the ninth over

The umpire calls for the timeout after the dismissal.

After 8 overs,Mumbai Indians 60/3 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 5 , Kieron Pollard 1)

Cummins comes into the attack in the eighth over. And he gets the big wicket of Rana, who is the leading run-scorer for Mumbai in the league at the moment, straightaway after the latter tries to heave towards the leg side, only to get caught at the square-leg boundary. Pollard walks out earlier than expected, and gets greeted by a fuller delivery along leg. Four runs and a wicket in this over.

Gave away 8 per over in the power plays but DD will accept three wickets in return happily. Pace combination looking good today especially IPL debutant Kagiso Rabada.

A huge wicket for Delhi sends back the Delhi boy in the Mumbai team Nitish Rana. The big Kieron Pollard walks in at the fall of that wicket. ‘Brevo aya re Brevo, Gayle ka bhai hai, bahot marega,’ says somebody behind us!

OUT! Rana tries to go for the heave towards the leg side, and ends up holing out to Anderson at the square-leg boundary! MI 56/3

Nitish Rana c Anderson b Cummins 8(9)

After 7 overs,Mumbai Indians 56/2 ( Nitish Rana 8 , Rohit Sharma (C) 2)

Mishra into the attack after powerplay. FOUR! Rana goes for a reverse-sweep in the fourth ball of the over, and finds the gap through gully to get his first boundary of the innings. Gets a double in the next delivery, slicing it over the cover cordon. Eight off the over, with Mumbai’s run-rate dropping slightly in the last two overs.

Rohit Sharma has been put under pressure by Chris Morris. Four dot balls on the trot now. The wicket of Buttler was a huge one. All eyes will be on Rana and Rohit.

Rohit Sharma has been dismissed four times this year and each time against a spinner. Moreover, his record against DD leg-spinner, Amit Mishra is not good either. Amit Mishra has dismissed Rohit Sharma four times in IPL and Rohit Sharma’s strike rate against Amit Mishra is 98.61.

That was Jonty-esque from Samson. A brilliant fielding close in gets rid of the dangerous Buttler. In comes the superstar Rohit Sharma and plays a copybook defence first up. Everything right about that shot. Meanwhile, the Delhi supporters’ admiration for mentor Rahul Dravid shows. A banner proclaims ‘We are Dravid Daredevils’.

Rohit Sharma has scored 655 runs from 19 innings against Delhi Daredevils in IPL before today which is the most by any player against them.

After 6 overs,Mumbai Indians 48/2 ( Nitish Rana 1 , Rohit Sharma (C) 1)

Final over of powerplay, with Morris bowling his second over, and Mumbai will look to make the most of this over to further consolidate themselves. OUT! Superb work by Samson, who runs in from cover and effects a direct hit while diving forward. Excellent over by Morris, conceding just one off it.

OUT! Fantastic work by Sanju Samson, and he gets rid of the in-form Jos Buttler! Rana set off for a quick single, and it would have taken a fantastic effort on Samson’s part, who ran in from cover to effect the dismissal. MI 47/2

Jos Buttler run out 28(18)

So after Parthiv Patel’s dismissal, the crowd is eager to watch Delhi boy Nitish Rana as he makes his way out in the middle. And why not? He has been the top scorer for Mumbai Indians and looks in great form.

After 5 overs,Mumbai Indians 47/1 ( Jos Buttler 28 , Nitish Rana 1)

Zaheer into his second over. FOUR! Buttler tickles a length ball down his leg side towards the fine-leg boundary. Another boundary at the end of the over, and it is the in-form Buttler once again as he hammers this towards extra-cover!

What an absolute Jaffa from Rabada. Parthiv has no answers to that brilliant yorker. Nitish Rana walks in to bat at the fall of that wicket. ‘Ala re ala Nitish Rana ala,’ the announcement goes on the loudspeaker. Rana has been in scorching form and Mumbai have high hopes from him.

It’s a sea of blue at the Wankhede Stadium as the Mumbai crowd are ready for yet another showdown here. However, it will be interesting to see how the game unfolds as Mumbai are put into bat first this time around.

After 4 overs,Mumbai Indians 37/1 ( Jos Buttler 19 , )

Rabada into his second over, and he starts off with a perfect yorker that Buttler barely manages to block. Buttler times his slog towards midwicket quite well in the next delivery to get his second six of the innings. Slower one from Rabada in the following delivery, with Buttler missing this one. Rabada ends the over with a 145 kmph yorker that strikes the base of Parthiv’s leg stump, too quick for him, and gives the South African speedster his first wicket in the league! What a talent!

BOWLED EM! Rabada finally gets his first wicket on IPL debut in his second over! Fires a perfect yorker that Patel simply fails to adjusts to, and hits the base of leg. MI 37/1

Parthiv Patel b Rabada 8(11)

When DD won the toss and opted to howl, they would have liked to see a couple early wickets. One of them would have been Jos Buttler. How costly will that drop prove to be?

After 3 overs,Mumbai Indians 29/0 ( Parthiv Patel (W) 8 , Jos Buttler 12)

Skipper Zaheer introduces himself into the attack in the third over, and Parthiv guides the first ball of the over towards the midwicket boundary with pure timing! Wide conceded in the final ball of the over, with Zaheer appealing unsuccessfully for an lbw in the following delivery. Nine off the over, and Mumbai are progressing at nearly 10 per over right now.

First six of the Mumbai innings as a short-pitched one from Morris goes the distance. Buttler goes for a pull, gets a top edge which ends up over the fence. The Wankhede goes berserk. ‘Ye Buttler bahot marta hai,’ says a voice in the stands

After 2 overs,Mumbai Indians 20/0 ( Parthiv Patel (W) 2 , Jos Buttler 11)

We have another South African bowling from the other end, with Chris Morris getting introduced into the attack. Concedes a wide in the second ball. SIX! Top-edge off Buttler’s bat carries all the way to the long-stop fence! FOUR! Another edge off Buttler’s bat, this time carrying all the way to the third man boundary! DROPPED! Buttler miscues an attempted scoop towards the long-stop boundary, and offers what looks like a simple catch to keeper Pant. The latter though, fumbles, and puts it down! 12 runs and a dropped catch in the over!

Rabada bowls one down leg and it runs away to the fence past the keeper. First four for Mumbai. The MI fans are ecstatic. Terrific atmosphere. A good stop at the third man fence on the next ball.

After 1 overs,Mumbai Indians 8/0 ( Parthiv Patel (W) 1 , Jos Buttler 1)

Rabada handed the ball at the start of the first over, and concedes five wides in just the second delivery, bowling it far down Buttler’s leg that beats keeper Pant on its way to the boundary. Eight off the first over, with Rabada hitting some serious pace (145 clicks in the fifth ball) in this over.

Well we have South African pace sensation Kagiso Rabada bowling the first over, with Buttler and Parthiv walking out to bat at the start of the Mumbai innings.

Good support for Delhi at the Wankhede. The Delhi team are out on the ground and in come the mumbai openers. ‘Be careful in the galleries, the ball may come at you,’ says the announcement on the loudspeaker. Not unexpected given that we have a lot of big hitters in both teams.

Delhi Daredevils XI: Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant, Chris Morris, Aditya Tare, Corey Anderson, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan.

Turns out Corey Anderson is the third change in the DD XI.

Three changes in the Delhi Daredevils XI — Jayant Yadav, Angelo Mathews and Sam Billings miss out on this game. Kagiso Rabada earns a debut today, and Aditya Tare is the other player drafted into the team today.

Skipper Zaheer Khan didn’t mention the third change. We should have the team soon.

Mumbai Indians XI: Parthiv Patel, Jos Buttler, Nitish Rana, Rohit Sharma (c), Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell McClenaghan.

Just one change in the team — Mitchell Johnson coming in place of Lasith Malinga.

TOSS: Delhi Daredevils snap Mumbai Indians’ toss-winning streak, and elect to field first! Mumbai Indians will now be tested, having to defend a total this time with a plenty of dew later in the evening.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils. Stay tuned for regular updates and scores from the Wankhede Stadium.
