Chris Gayle adjudged the Man of the Match for his 38-ball 77.

  • This is Gujarat Lions' first defeat while chasing at SCA stadium, Rajkot in IPL.

  • 23:41 (IST)

    After 20 overs,Gujarat Lions 192/7 ( Andrew Tye 6 , Basil Thampi 0)

Milne for the last over. The first ball is bowled wide on the off side. Tye misses, but should have been called a wide. Three runs off three balls taken. Looks to be beyond GL's reach now. 23 needed off the last 3 balls. Ishan slices it up in the air. The ball balloons up and is out. Had to go for it though. Basil Thampi comes in. A short-pitched one hits Thampi on the grill of the helmet.

It's all over for GL though as they go down by 21 runs, as the players shake hands.

The bowling definitely a problem for Gujarat, though the batting showed they can build a good chase, but the bowlers need to give the batters some cushion. RCB get their campaign on track, but there is no end to Gujarat's woes. They slide to the bottom of the table, with onbe win from five matches. RCB move up to sixth.

  • RCB huffed and puffed en route to second win in 6 matches. They relaxed during the closing stages after McCullum's dismissal to almost mess it up. Spinners Chahal, Negi, Head were the stars in the ranks. Chahal, Negi handled pressure superbly. Good win. Good for morale of team.

  • 23:35 (IST)

OUT! Ishan departs after playing a good hand. GL 191/7

    Ishan Kishan c Chahal b Milne 39(16)

  • 23:31 (IST)

    After 19 overs,Gujarat Lions 188/6 ( Ishan Kishan 39 , Andrew Tye 2)

Aravind into the attack for the 19th over. The first ball goes for a four as Kohli drops another catch. You don't see that too often. And there is some concern as Kohli lands on his shoulder. No damage done though. A four and two sixes from that over from Ishan. 26 needed off the last 2 overs.

  • 23:28 (IST)

    After 18 overs,Gujarat Lions 167/6 ( Ishan Kishan 19 , Andrew Tye 2)

Head to bowl the 18th over. Ishan smokes a six a six off the second ball. A terrible mix up on the fourth ball and the two batsmen end up on the same end. Jadeja adjudged out, as the striker Ishan had got into the crease at the non-srtiker's end while Jadeja was out of it. A huge wicket for RCB. Andrew Tye the new man in. Kohli drops a chance a long on of fthe last ball. 47 needed off the last two overs.

  • 23:25 (IST)

OUT! Jadeja run out. Huge blow for GL. They are 165/6

Jadeja run out (Negi/Kedar Jadhav) 23(22)

  • 23:21 (IST)

    After 17 overs,Gujarat Lions 156/5 ( Ravindra Jadeja 21 , Ishan Kishan 12)

Aravind in the attack. Ishan Kishan is finding it difficult to get a big shot away. Four runs from the first five balls, but Ishan connects one finally and it is right from the sweet spot of the bat. The sound of leather on wood on that shot would have been music to any batsman's ears. 58 needed off the last three overs.

  • 23:15 (IST)

    After 16 overs,Gujarat Lions 146/5 ( Ravindra Jadeja 20 , Ishan Kishan 3)

Travis Head comes in to bowl. Keeps it tight, giving the GL batsmen no room to open their arms, as they try desperately to get a big shot or two going. Only seven runs from that over. Priceless for RCB in the context of the match. Strategic timeout taken. There would be a lot for both teams to talk about, one feels. 68 runs needed off 24 balls.

  • 23:12 (IST)

    After 15 overs,Gujarat Lions 139/5 ( Ravindra Jadeja 16 , Ishan Kishan 0)

What do we have here! An appeal against McCullum for run out. Nearly did a Misbah-ul-Haq there. His bat was not grounded as the stumps were disturbed by the keeper. But his foot was on the ground. Not Out. It would have been such an anti-climax if he would have got out that way. Would have been a tame end to a great innings. McCullum does get out in that over though, and Chahal provides another important breakthrough. McCullum skies one to midwicket. Caught. Is that the match for RCB? Ishan Kishan the new man in. 75 needed from 30 balls.

  • Brendon McCullum has gone and the Lions now need a series of events slightly less likely than a UFO landing on the outfield with some aliens pouring out and declaring that they come in peace. Once again, the Lions batting line up have done OK, but not well enough to overcome the shortcomings of their bowling attack.

  • 23:08 (IST)

OUT! McCullum holes out in the deep. GL 137/5

     Brendon McCullum c Milne b Chahal 72(44)

  • 23:04 (IST)

    After 14 overs,Gujarat Lions 134/4 ( Brendon McCullum 71 , Ravindra Jadeja 12)

Watson in the attack. A short-pitched one upto chest height and Jadeja pulls it to the square leg fence. McCullum launches into one and that's the 260th six of the tournament so far. That goes soaring over the square leg fence. Baz is playing a gem of an innings. Hacks one down the ground. Could have carried to the fielder at long on. Drops short though. 80 runs needed from the last 6 overs.

  • Most innings in IPL without scoring a fifty:
    68 - Piyush Chawla
    60 - Harbhajan Singh
    58 - Praveen Kumar
    56 - Irfan Pathan

  • Superb bowling by Negi. 1 for 21 from 4 overs during the carnage was brilliant. He certainly has become first choice left arm spinner ahead of Abdullah. The ball to dismiss Finch was a beauty. Curving into the right hander and spinning away on pitching. Left him stranded. RCB spinners have been impressive even with McCullum clobbering.

  • 22:59 (IST)

    After 13 overs,Gujarat Lions 121/4 ( Brendon McCullum 64 , Ravindra Jadeja 6)

Milne to McCullum. Baz plays it to long off. Not in control of that shot though. Jadeja gets a boundary at backward point off the fourth ball. Just guides it to the fence. Eight runs off the first five balls and Baz makes it really big as he goes aerial and down the ground. SIX! Baz is an absolute gladiator! 93 runs needed of the last 42 balls.

  • 22:55 (IST)

    After 12 overs,Gujarat Lions 107/4 ( Brendon McCullum 56 , Ravindra Jadeja 0)

Negi bowls the next over. A tidy over that. 107 runs needed by Gujarat Lions off 48 balls. It is difficult but not out of GL's range. This partnership between Jadeja and McCullum is crucial though.

  • 22:51 (IST)

    After 11 overs,Gujarat Lions 106/4 ( Brendon McCullum 55 , )

Aravind comes back into the attack. Karthik advances, shows good intent and lofts over extra cover. Does not get the placement though. Baz misjudges the bounce on the next one from Aravind and gets hit in the nether regions. That's going to hurt. Karthik goes over the bowler's head and finds Kohli in the long on. Ravindra Jadeja the new man in. A big wicket that.

  • 22:49 (IST)

OUT! Karthik departs holing out to long on. GL 106/4

    Karthik c Kohli b Aravind 1(4)

  • 22:44 (IST)

    After 10 overs,Gujarat Lions 103/3 ( Brendon McCullum 53 , Dinesh Karthik (W) 0)

Negi has a change of ends. McCullm moves outside leg and Negi bowls it further down leg. Wide. The same tactic used by Baz on the next ball. Negi drops it down and Baz pulls it hard and handsomely for a six and that's his fifty. Negi comes back with a dream delivery for a left-arm spinner. Well flighted and moved out after pitching to beat the edge of Finch's bat. Smart work by Kedar Jadhav behind the stumps and GL are three down. Dinesh Karthik in at the fall of that wicket. There is some real quality in the GL batting line-up. GL on course at the halfway stage but there is still some distance to cover.

  • 22:40 (IST)

OUT! Negi has Finch stumped with a beauty. GL 103/3

Finch st Kedar Jadhav b Negi 19(15)

  • 22:36 (IST)

    After 9 overs,Gujarat Lions 95/2 ( Brendon McCullum 46 , Aaron Finch 19)

Milne continues. Bit of an appeal as Finch is hit on the pads. A low full toss on and around off and Baz goes over extra cover for a four. The next ball is dragged in short and Baz plays a fierce cut and sends the ball all the way over the boundary at cover. Finch squeezes one thjrough backward point for the second boundary of the over.

  • It is now McCullum or bust for the Lions. With Smith gone they will need the New Zealander batting at the end to win this. As things stand they have done a decent job at keeping up with the rate, but there is so much batting that is left to do this game is still RCB’s to lose.

  • 22:31 (IST)

    After 8 overs,Gujarat Lions 78/2 ( Brendon McCullum 35 , Aaron Finch 15)

Shane Watson comes into the attack now. Bowls a loopy bouncer outside off. Finch tries to club it. Flat bats it to deep midwicket. Doesn't go to any fielder. Lucky for Finch. Watson to McCullum, and the Kiwi lofts that ball for a six down the ground. Till he is there, GL will believe they are in with a chance.

  • 22:26 (IST)

    After 7 overs,Gujarat Lions 67/2 ( Brendon McCullum 27 , Aaron Finch 12)

Milne into the attack now. A loosener first up. Short and down the leg side. Wide called. The next delivery is a wide too. The fourt one goes for a boundary. Finch picks the length up early and sends it behind square on the leg side. Ten runs from that over.

  • 22:23 (IST)

  • 22:19 (IST)

    After 6 overs,Gujarat Lions 57/2 ( Brendon McCullum 25 , Aaron Finch 7)

Chahal continues. Bowls a googly to Finch, who goes with the turn and clears the man at deep midwicket. SIX. Goes aerial again on the next ball in the same region. Doesn't get a sweet connection though. Single. Chahal beats Finch on the last delivery with sharp away leg spin. Strategic timeout taken at the end of that over. The match well poised at the end of the powerplay overs for Gujarat.

  • 22:15 (IST)

    After 5 overs,Gujarat Lions 48/2 ( Brendon McCullum 23 , Aaron Finch 0)

Negi in the attack and is swept with disdain behind square for a six by Baz. Drops it too short then and Baz aerial through cow corner. Four! Negi comes back well after conceding ten runs off the first two balls. Only one run off the next four balls.

  • 22:12 (IST)

    After 4 overs,Gujarat Lions 37/2 ( Brendon McCullum 12 , )

Chahal continues. Baz employs the slog sweep and the ball soars over the wide long on boundary. SIX! Raina also goes for the slog sweep and gets a four at deep square leg. The GL batting is extremely powerful and if there is a team that can overhaul this huge target, it has to be GL. Raina outwitted by Chahal then. The leggie shortened the length and bowled down leg as he saw Raina advancing. Raina beaten and manages to hit the ball to short fine leg. Aaron Finch is the new man in.

  • 22:08 (IST)

OUT! Raina foxed by Chahal. Gujarat lose their second wicket. GL 37/2

    Raina c Watson b Chahal 23(8)

  • 22:05 (IST)

    After 3 overs,Gujarat Lions 24/1 ( Brendon McCullum 4 , Suresh Raina (C) 18)

Aravind to bowl the third over. Replaces Negi. Bowls one on Raina's pads and hits one over long leg for six. The next delivery is on a length and Raina goes straight with a dead straight bat. Ckecks the follow through. That's effortless. Consecutive sixes. Baz McCullum then dances down the track. Single. Raina goes aerial and sends the ball to the midweicket boundary off the last ball. Employs a superb flick of the wrists.

  • Very smart move by RCB to take pace off the ball and open the bowling with spin from both ends. First two overs yielding just 4 runs and accounting for a wicket is great start in defending 213.

  • 22:00 (IST)

    After 2 overs,Gujarat Lions 4/1 ( Brendon McCullum 2 , Suresh Raina (C) 1)

Yuzvendra Chahal to bowl the second over. A bold move by Kohli. You have seen him using Chahal to at the start in the limited overs series against England too earlier this year and Chahal immediately produces a wicket. Dwayne Smith heaves a short delivery but doesn't get the distance. Mandeep Singh settles underneath the vball and takes an easy catch. GL lose their first wicket in the second over. The use of spin against Smith worked. Suresh Raina the new man in.

  • Highest targets successfully chased in IPL:
215 by RR v DC at Hyderabad (RG) in 2008
206 by CSK v RCB at Chepauk in 2012

206 by KXIP v CSK at Abu Dhabi in 2014
204 by RCB v KXIP at Bangalore in 2010

  • 21:56 (IST)

OUT! GL lose their first wicket as Smith holes out at deep square leg. GL 1/1

    Dwayne Smith c Mandeep b Chahal 1(4)

  • 21:55 (IST)

    After 1 over,Gujarat Lions 1/0 ( Dwayne Smith 1 , Brendon McCullum 0)

Dwayne Smith looks to loft the first ball on the leg side, but doesn't connect well. A miscue by Smith off the next ball. The ball spoons up, but falls short of the fielders. Good change of pace from Negi in that over. A brilliant first over. Just one run from  it.

  • 21:51 (IST)

Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum open for GL, Pawan Negi starts the bowling for RCB

  • Most 200-plus totals in IPL:

Preview: Gujarat Lions bowlers will face a litmus test when they take on a star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting line-up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Rajkot on Tuesday.

Gujarat, led by Suresh Raina, had a dream debut last season by finishing third on the table but they are at seventh place in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich Twenty20 cricket league.

Apart from one match against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), where their bowling department did a fantastic job, Gujarat's bowlers have struggled to find the rhythm.

A recent six-wicket defeat against Mumbai Indians also raised many questions over Gujarat's bowling unit, which lacked some quality bowlers. But the inclusion of Andrew Tye has added a spark to the bowling attack as he scalped five wickets, including a hat-trick.

With three losses in four matches so far in the tournament, Gujarat will now look to better their overall record against bottom-placed RCB.

Unlike the bowling department, Gujarat's batting unit has been in a good touch. Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch, Raina and Dinesh Karthik provided the solid platform but the lower-middle order failed to step up to the pressure.

Gujarat, who bought the maximum number of players (11) among the eight franchises at the IPL auctions in February will be eager to find a right combination for the rest of the tournament.

On the other hand, last year's runners-up Bangalore, who have some quality international players are struggling in this edition.

They have a strong batting line-up but failed to find the right combination. Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and Shane Watson have stood up to their reputation but not in unison.

The bowling department of Bangalore, which includes Tymal Mills and Samuel Badree, fired in some crucial matches but all players have to perform in unison to do well in the tournament.

Gujarat Lions squad: Suresh Raina(c), Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch, Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Karthik, Dhawal Kulkarni, Praveen Kumar, Andrew Tye, Ishan Kishan, Pradeep Sangwan, Shivil Koushik, Shadab Bashir Jakati, Jaydev Shah, Manpreet Gony, Nathu Singh, Jason Roy, Munaf Patel, Chirag Suri, Akshdeep Nath, Basil Thampi, Shubham Agarwal, Tejas Baroka, Pratham Singh, Shelley Sanjay Kumar Shaurya, Dwayne Bravo.

RCB squad: Virat Kohli(c), AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, Mandeep Singh, Adam Milne, Sarfaraz Khan, Sreenath Aravind, Kedar Jadhav, Shane Watson, Stuart Binny, Samuel Badree, Iqbal Abdulla, Travis Head, Sachin Baby, Avesh Khan, Tabraiz Shamsi, Pawan Negi, Tymal Mills, Praveen Dubey, Aniket Choudhary, Billy Stanlake, Vishnu Vinod.
