    Shi Yuqi enters final!

Oh, what a battle! Shi Yuqi was stretched all the way but eventually, he got the better of a spirited Sameer Verma to enter the men's singles final. Sameer squandered a match point at 20-19 and since then didn't look as confident as the first two games. Shi ran away with the lead in the third and sealed the deal at 12-21, 22-20, 21-17

  • 14:19 (IST)

    Sameer 17-20 Shi Yuqi

Shi Yuqi squanders three match points. Tensed moments here. A sudden rush of confidence there by Sameer.

  • 14:17 (IST)

    Sameer 14-19 Shi Yuqi

Shi Yuqi was made to work really hard to earn that crucial point. Sameer eventually hits the shuttle wide of the backline.

  • 14:14 (IST)

    Sameer 12-17 Shi Yuqi

Shi Yuqi has hit bludgeoning winners to maintain the pressure on Sameer, who has relied way too much on flat pushes and returns.

  • 14:13 (IST)

    Sameer 10-16 Shi Yuqi

One-way traffic at the moment. Shi Yqui is in charge of the rallies and winners as Sameer struggles to find balance at the mid-court.

  • 14:11 (IST)

    Sameer 9-14 Shi Yuqi

Well, that escalated quickly. Shi has been accurate at the net to manipulate Sameer's rhythm. The Chinese shuttler's mental resolve is worth praising.

  • 14:10 (IST)

    Sameer 9-11 Shi Yuqi

Finally some breathing space for Shi Yuqi . The crowd favourite leads 11-9 against Sameer at the mid-game break of the decider.

The Indian needs to bank on his attacking intent to unsettle Shi

  • 14:07 (IST)

This match is unbelievable. Badminton is unpredictable!

  • 14:05 (IST)

    Sameer 6-9 Shi Yuqi

A tired-looking shot from Sameer at the net. Looks like he doesn't want to be involved in long rallies anymore.

  • 14:03 (IST)

Medical assistance for Sameer, who has complained about a finger issue. He looks fine now.

  • 14:03 (IST)

    Sameer 5-7 Shi Yuqi

And now, Shi is making his opponent chase the shuttle from both the corners. Notably, Sameer isn't a follower. He loves to control and defend the bird from any given position.

  • 14:00 (IST)

    Sameer 4-6 Shi Yuqi

Sameer earns two quick points to close the gap on his opponent's lead. It's the same pattern in the third game.

  • 13:59 (IST)

    Sameer 1-5 Shi Yuqi

Sameer looks disgusted after allowing Shi to hit a simple down-the-line smash. Is he still thinking about the could haves and should haves?

  • 13:58 (IST)

    Sameer 0-4 Shi Yuqi

Same old, same old. Shi Yuqi takes a healthy lead against Sameer, who starts slow yet again. Shi is looking to end the match rather quickly.

    It's a thriller!

  • 13:46 (IST)

    Sameer 16-15 Shi Yuqi

The Indian is finding the corner of the court with unerring accuracy. Shi looks bemused at the mid-court.

  • 13:46 (IST)

    Sameer 15-14 Shi Yuqi

Sameer quickly capitalises on Shi's loose return at the net to restore the lead. It's all about temperament from here on.

  • 13:44 (IST)

    Sameer 14-11 Shi Yuqi

The Indian has produced calculative strokes coupled with great defence to take a well-deserved lead against the All England winner.

  • 13:42 (IST)

    Sameer 12-11 Shi Yuqi

There we have the longest rally of the match. The Chinese wins a 36-shot rally to narrow the deficit.

    11-9 in favour of Sameer!

  • 13:38 (IST)

    SIX STRAIGHT POINTS FOR VERMA

    Sameer 10-8 Shi Yuqi

  • 13:36 (IST)

    Sameer 5-8 Shi Yuqi

Shi Yuqi does well to defend a barrage of attacking strokes but eventually succumbs to a crosscourt smash. He closes the gap on Shi's lead.

  • 13:34 (IST)

    Sameer 3-7 Shi Yuqi

Shi Yuqi extends his lead over Sameer. The Indian applies too much power to his drop shot as the shuttle lands wide.

  • 13:33 (IST)

    Sameer 2-5 Shi Yuqi

The Indian is keeping close to the forecourt and Shi Yuqi won't let his opponent boss the net game. He uses deception to open up a three-point lead.

  • 13:31 (IST)

    Sameer 0-3 Shi Yuqi

A similar start to the second game. The Chinese shuttler is off to a flyer with a 3-0 lead over Sameer.

  • 13:30 (IST)

    Sameer bags first game!

    Did you see that coming?

Much-needed confidence for Sameer going into the second game

  • 13:28 (IST)

    Sameer 18-12 Shi Yuqi

The Indian shuttler is on a roll. The first game should give Sameer the much-needed confidence to use his weapons judiciously in the next stanza.

  • 13:26 (IST)

    Sameer 15-11 Shi Yuqi

Sameer 's determined approach is causing a lot of headache to Shi Yuqi. The Chinese is chasing the shuttle, allowing his opponent to dictate terms.

    Sameer 14-10 Shi Yuqi

The Indian has put his foot down after the break. he is into the groove and mixing his strokes perfectly to bag points.

  • 13:23 (IST)

    Sameer looks on song here!

  • 13:20 (IST)

    Sameer 10-8 Shi Yuqi

The Indian is involving Shi in long rallies to find an angle to hit a quick winner. His opponent's stoic defence is hard to crack.

  • 13:19 (IST)

  • 13:16 (IST)

    Sameer 6-6 Shi Yuqi

That's some brilliant reflexes there. Sameer was really quick to defend and hit a clean return. The scores are level!

  • 13:14 (IST)

    Sameer 2-4 Shi Yuqi

Sameer has a habit of starting slow. He is more than capable of upsetting top players. Shi Yuqi needs to force the Indian to move back and forth throughout the match.

  • 13:12 (IST)

    Sameer 0-3 Shi Yuqi

The Chinese shuttler claims three points on the trot to quickly unsettle Sameer Verma.

  • 13:07 (IST)

    Sameer Verma vs Shi Yuqi:

There is hope for the battling, hard-working Sameer Verma, who had squeezed into the finals by successfully defending his title at the Syed Modi International, late last month; and finishing seventh in the list, narrowly ahead of Indonesian Ginting.

Verma trails the reigning All-England champion Shi Yuqi 1-2 in career meetings but was the victor in their most recent meeting – by a 21-17, 21-18 scoreline in the Denmark Open, exactly two months back. Thus, although Momota has appeared head and shoulders above the rest in this tournament, and looks a shoo-in as the eventual champion, Shi will have to be on his mettle if he hopes to prevent an Indian one-two in the singles finals of this cash-rich event.

  • 13:01 (IST)
