English spinner Graeme Swann feels one-day cricket should be scrapped and that Twenty20 and Test cricket are the way forward for cricket.

Speaking to BBC Sports he said, “I think one-day cricket will have to give at some point, hopefully for everyone. I don’t think that game should carry on for much longer. I think Test cricket and Twenty20 are the way forward for cricket.”

Swann plays in all the three formats of the game for England thinks that abandoning the format will help reduce the pressure on the players.

“We do play too much cricket and if something had to give my choice would be 50-over cricket, or make it 40-over cricket or something,” he said.

Swann who topped the list of one-day bowling rankings as recently as October slipped to third. He was left out of the game in Mumbai against India; India beat England 5-0, with Swann taking just two wickets in four matches. He has 90 wickets in 64 one-day internationals at an average of 25.43 to his credit.

Speaking on the recent postponement of the Word Test Championship, he said, “It is a bit disturbing and short-sighted in my view but I’m not the powers that be.“This is frustrating because being English we rate Test cricket above and beyond anything else, and certainly the Champions Trophy”
