Google Doodle celebrates the biathlon on the seventh day of the 2018 Winter Olympics

As we move on to the seventh day of the Winter Olympics 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Google has gone ahead and doodled an archerfish going on to win the biathlon.

While conventional biathlon in the Olympics combines skiing and shooting, Google has gone on to rewrite the rules to call it 'spit-n-swim'. As per Google's Doodle Snow Games rules, the sport requires fishes to swim up close to their targets (which are flies) and shoot them down from a tree by spitting a jet of water at them.

Typically, a biathlon event at the Olympics requires participants to ski for a set distance between three and five kilometres with .22 calibre rifles on their back. Once they reach the shooting range, participants are required to shoot five targets placed 50 metres away. For every shot missed, the participant is required to ski around a penalty loop of 150 metres.

According to Google's blog on the doodle, we join action later in the day as Archer, the archerfish takes the stage. Archer has his eyes set on his flies, keeping in mind the competition he faces from his rivals, Perch and Bass earlier who were close to hitting the flies but did not really impress the judges enough. Earlier in the day, in an interview, a confident Archer says, “Talent swims in my family. All of my 127 siblings are sharkshooters, too.”

Archer goes on to spit down all five targets with pinpoint accuracy, making him the clear winner in this year's edition of the biathlon.

Google is expected to showcase 17 doodles in total as part of Google Snow Games. This is in keeping with the ongoing 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. The popularity of today's doodle is spread across major parts of North America, a few countries in South America, all of Europe and Australia and also parts of East and South-East Asia.
