The second season of the Global Chess League gets underway on Thursday, 3 October with upGrad Mumba Masters taking on the American Gambits in the opening game of the season.
Mumba Masters had finished runners-up last season while American Gambits are he franchise that have replaced the Chingari Gulf Titans in the GCL.
Later on Day 1 of Season 2 we have Viswanathan Anand’s Ganges Grandmasters taking on Magnus Carlsen’s Alpine SG Pipers in the second game of the day followed shortly after by PBG Alaskan Knights taking on defending champions Triveni Continental Kings.
GMs Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Hikaru Nakamura are the icon (highest-rated) players for the Mumba Masters and the American Gambits respectively, whle Alireza Firouzja and Anish Giri hold the same position with The Continental Kings and Alaskan Knights respectively.

While the inaugural season of the league, in which Triveni Continental Kings defeated Mumba Masters in the final, had taken place in Dubai, the second season is taking place in London.
Each team in the GCL plays each of the remaining five teams twice — once in each colour. The two teams with most points at the end of the double round-robin stage then face off in the summit clash to decide the winner of the season.
