So that’s it from this game. Hope you have enjoyed our coverage of Ghana vs USA.

We are not done yet as we are also live-blogging the match between India and Colombia. You can click here for the all the live updates from that match.

Akinola had a gilt-edged chance towards the end of normal time but he blazed over from about 12 yards. However, the US are nearly through to the next round with this 1-0 win. Ghana arguably had the better chances but the Americans made their opportunity count. Frustrating evening for the Black Starlets who will now look to bounce back against India on Thursday.

Super sub Ayo Akinola’s goal was the difference today. While Ghana had plenty of chances, they failed to convert any of those to goals. It’s a big setback to Ghana and now the group also opens up. Colombia, who lost their first match against Ghana, will be happy with this result. If they can beat host India later today then they can realistically expect to quaify for the next stage.

FT: GHA 0-1 USA

It’s all over. Two wins out of two for USA and they are nearly through to Round of 16.

Worrying scenes here as defender Abdul Yusif is stretchered off, seemingly knocked unconscious after a collision. One hopes for a speedy recovery.

So if USA manage to hold on to their lead then they will be through to the Round of 16 stage. Maybe them making it to the next stage doesn’t come as surprise but it’s certainly a surprise if they beat the so called favourites Ghana. It was all about finishing today and that’s why the USA are leading at the moment.

The substitution has worked! Chris Durkin wins the ball on the left and plays Chris Goslin into space. Goslin picked out Akinola who ran past his man to deposit the ball into the opposition net. Ghana has been the better side but the US once again demonstrates its effectiveness. This felt like a killer blow.

GOOALLL! 75’ GHA 0-1 USA

USA have made Ghana pay for their missed chances. Substitute Ayo Akinola with came up with a perfect finish from the right side.

Both sides have made changes to the side with the US understandably being the more proactive team. Sergino Dest was having a difficult time on the right and he has been hooked for Akil Watts. Ayo Akinola is also on the pitch, at the expense of the ineffective Tim Weah. Minutes before, Ghana had introduced Gabriel Leveh as a replacement for Aminu Mohammed. And with less than 20 minutes of normal time left, we see Richard Danso in central midfielder Kudus Mohammed’s place.

71’ USA’s first shot on goal came in the 66th minute from Blaine Ferri but the ball going wide summed up today’s match. Both teams enjoyed good number of chances but are struggling find the goal. Ghana will look to attack more as the match enters the final stage so US defenders have their task cut out.

Ghana has returned with an even stronger attacking disposition. Sadiq Ibrahim, Kudus Mohammed and Emmanuel Toku nearly put their side in the lead within the space of about six minutes. Sadiq and Toku will be more disappointed with their efforts as they seemed certain to score. US is under the cosh and the break comes at the right time for the Americans as James Sands receives treatment for a wound.

57’ GHA 0-0 USA

Ghana has been the superior side in the second-half. They had three good chances so far but nothing came out of it.The best one came from Toku who took the ball in the box and had an ample time to find the net only to hit wide.

Crucial block from US goalkeeper as Ghana almost took lead through a corner. They had another chance after the save but Sadiq Ibrahim’s hit was blocked by US defender.

45’ GHA 0-0 USA

Second-half is underway. If we find a winner in the final 45 minutes then we will have our first qualifier to Round of 16.

Blaine Ferri comes close with his left foot for the second time this evening. A nicely worked move had left him with a sight on goal from just outside the box. But like the earlier freekick, the ball narrowly missed its target. The teams have finally woken up, albeit at the wrong time. We are goalless at the interval.

HT: GHA 0-0 USA

Both teams had their chances they lacked the finishing. Also they were few fine saves from both sides’ goalkeepers.

39’ GHA 0-0 USA

Best chance for Ghana in the match as Eric Ayiah nutmegs the US goalkeeper but couldn’t find the net as defender James Sands puts the ball went out of play.

There was much pre-match anticipation but this encounter is turning out to be flat. It’s a war of attrition with both sides content to stretch it out as long as they can. It’s a consequence of the weather of course and tiredness later may prompt mistakes. Both US and Ghana are seemingly pre-empting that.

35’ GHA 0-0 USA

Sadiq Ibrahim’s shot from just outside the box on the left flank brings out a good save from US goalkeeper Justin Garces. This chance might revive Ghana’s game as the players went little off-colour in the match.

30’ GHA 0-0 USA

After taking their own sweet time to settle, US up the ante in the last 10 minutes or so. Although they failed to create anything substantial but the attacking threat was up there. From the looks of it, this game is bit scrappy.

Josh Sargent comes close to opening the scoring but the hot conditions are having an impact on the football. The teams are slowly working their way into the match, intent on conserving energy. We’ve had occasional bursts of pace but the general tempo is lukewarm.

17’ US could’ve take a shock lead from a scrappy corner but Ghana’s goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim comes up with a fine save near the goal line.

As expected, Ghana started the match on a bright note. They have been constantly on the attack and putting the US under pressure.

Interesting setup by the US. Contrary to what the team sheet suggested, the US has chosen a 4-1-2-3 formation. Sergino Dest is the right-back with Chris Gloster tucking in as centre-back. One of the goalscorers on Friday, Chris Durkin starts as a holding midfielder. Tim Weah and Andrew Carleton are stretching the play as wide forwards.

Another hot day in Delhi. The temperature has risen up to 34 degrees. Swathes of empty seats at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. Organisers are expecting a lower turnout today, even though India play later in the evening. After witnessing the public response in other cities, this seems rather underwhelming.

One change each for Ghana and USA. Isaac Gyamfi replaces Mohammed Iddriss in midfield for the Black Starlets while the Americans have shifted to a 3-5-2 formation. Sergino Dest comes in for forward Ayo Akinola. US head coach John Hackworth is perhaps mindful of Ghana’s attacking prowess as he switches from the 4-3-3 setup fielded against India. As for Ghana, the start list suggests the team will once again line up in a 4-4-2 system. Gyamfi was brought on for the final quarter of the match against Colombia on Friday, when he replaced Iddriss.

Hello and welcome to Firtspost’s live coverage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017. In today’s first match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Delhi, table-toppers Ghana and USA face each other with the winner confirming their progress to the next round.

_**Click here to follow the live coverage of the Group B match between Turkey and Mali**_ . Preview: Ghana U-17 coach Samuel Fabin on Friday asserted that his team will play attacking football in the next fixture to seal a spot in the Round of 16 after starting with a victory in their opening contest against Colombia. Ghana striker Sadiq Ibrahim scored the lone goal in the 39th minute at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday to help his side take three points. “Yea, we want to qualify with the second game, so we are going to go all out in the second game to get another 3 points to guarantee a place in the next stage,” Fabin told reporters in the post-match press conference. Commenting on the team’s lone goal scorer of the evening, Fabin hailed Sadiq as one of the fastest players in his side. “He (Sadiq) is one of the fastest players, we have monitored him,” the 58-year-old said. Fabin also heaped praise on his goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim and the defence. “Credit goes to my goalkeeper and the defence, they did tremendously well,” Fabin said. Colombia U-17 coach Orlando Restrepo said the humid conditions affected his wards but he won’t consider it as an excuse for the loss. “Yes, the humidity played a factor in the last 10 minutes of the match but that’s not an excuse for us,” the Colombia coach said. “I think we had more chances than them (Ghana), they had 3, they capitalised, we had 5, we did not capitalise,” Restrepo said. Talking on team’s number 9 Santiago Barrero’s injury who was carried off during the second-half of the match, Restrepo said: “Barrero was one of our main starters and he has been fighting an injury, we got him here, we didn’t want to take the risk in the beginning of the game. “That’s why we put him in the last 20 minutes of the game and unfortunately he again got injured. He is alright right now, they are going to take him to the doctor and they are going to check his knee again.”
