The arrival of Jurgen Klopp might’ve galvanised Liverpool fans, but the Steven Gerrard wound is still open. They still miss their trusted leader and hope for a homecoming for the midfielder. While a proper return might not be on the cards, there is some good news for the Kop. In January, Gerrard will be donning the red for a Liverpool All Stars exhibition match against Socceroos XI in Sydney. “It will be great to play with the official Liverpool FC Legends. The squad looks like it’s a great set of lads, it’ll be good to get on the pitch with them. Our fans are the best and to play in front of them again will be emotional, I’m sure,” LA Galaxy’s website quoted Gerrard as saying. AP[/caption] Gerrard will be joining his former teammates and Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia, Dietmar Hamann, Ian Rush, Danny Murphy and John Aldridge and will also reunite with his former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier, who will be coaching the Liverpool legends side, a report in The Daily Telegraph says. “To go back and bring Stevie I think will be a moment all the supporters will cherish,” Liverpool FC website quoted Hamann as saying. Gerrard, who played for Liverpool for over 16 years and scored 186 goals in 710 appearances for the club, joined LA Galaxy at the end of 2014-15 Premier League season. Since his departure, Liverpool fans have been awaiting his return in any role possible and talks of his Merseyside return, either as player on loan (a la Frank Lampard, albeit to Manchester City) or in a larger role as part of Klopp’s coaching staff, have been doing the rounds. In fact, Stevie G, as the Kop calls him, will be coming back to his boyhood club and train with the team for a “couple of weeks”. According to a Daily Mail report, Gerrard will join Klopp and his old team for training in the coming weeks after his first Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign with LA Galaxy came to an end after they failed to qualify out of the Western Conference play-offs after being beaten by Seattle Sounders in October.

“Next week I’m going to go in for a couple of weeks and work with Mr Klopp. I’m looking really forward to that, see what he’s about and try and learn a few things off him,” the report quoted the Liverpool legend.

However, Gerrard ruled out a temporary loan return to the club.
