Sania MirzaΒ added another feather to her already illustrious cap this year by winning the US Open women’s doubles with partner Martina Hingis. AP[/caption] The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna winner and her Swiss partnerΒ defeated fourth seeded Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3 to claim their second, consecutive Grand Slam of the year after their Wimbledon triumph in July. “It has been a great year for us,” Sania said after the win. To win Wimbledon was a great year. Then to come back and back it up to win the US Open, we feel like we’re a really solid team. And we came through again today," Sania said after her victory. Sania’s achievement was widely praised on Twitter by celebrities and common folk alike. Leading the praise from the front was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who saidΒ that she made the country proud. Sania was quick to respond with thank you.

Congratulations @MirzaSania & @mhingis on the phenomenal victory at the @usopen. Your accomplishments make us proud.
