Liam Lawson will be Sergio Perez’s replacement at Red Bull Racing in Formula 1, It was announced on Thursday. He will partner with world champion Max Verstappen in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship.
“To be announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing Driver is a lifelong dream for me, this is something I’ve wanted and worked towards since I was eight years old. It’s been an incredible journey so far. I want to say a massive thank you to the whole team at VCARB for their support, the last six races have played a huge part in my preparation for this next step,” Lawson said completing Red Bull’s driver roster.
‘Excited to work alongside Max’
“I also want to thank, Christian [Horner], Helmut [Marko] and the whole Red Bull family for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I am super excited to work alongside Max and learn from a World Champion, I have no doubt I will learn from his expertise. I can’t wait to get going,” added Lawson.
Who is Liam Lawson?
New Zealand-born Lawson started his F1 journey with the Red Bull Junior Programme in 2019. He made his Formula One debut with Scuderia AlphaTauri at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, in place of the injured Daniel Ricciardo.
He earned his first championship points in only his second race at the Singapore Grand Prix and went on to compete in five races for the team. Beginning 2024 as a Reserve Driver for both teams, Liam made a triumphant return to Grand Prix racing with Racing Bulls, securing a points finish at the United States Grand Prix. Now, after completing the season with the Bulls, the 22-year-old takes a significant step forward in his career with a seat at Red Bull Racing.
Perez, who joined Red Bull in 2021, left the team after finishing eight in the drivers’ standing.
