Former world champion Garry Kasparov comes out of retirement after 12 years

Moscow: Former chess world champion Garry Kasparov to come out of retirement in August to play in a US tournament, organisers announced on Thursday. Kasparov, who dominated the game for more than 15 years, will return at the Grand Chess Tour where top players, including current World No 1 Magnus Carlsen, India’s Viswanathan Anand and United States’ Hikaru Nakamura will be playing in the Sinquefield Cup and the St Louis Rapid and Blitz competition in St. Louis, Missouri. Kasparov himself tweeted sardonically,

Kasparov, who retired from professional chess in 2005, was given a wild card entry for the event’s Rapid and Blitz competition.

In 1985, he became the youngest world champion ever, at 22.
